I agree! Nobody here at work is watching this show so I've had no one to discuss the mid-season finale with but holy crap it was awesome!!! I NEVER saw that coming!!!

How far into the story does the book go? Like if I read the book would the show be spoiled for me? How closely related are they?

Time to pick up the graphic novel...One of the best shows out there. AMC is doing great...Check out Hell on Wheels afer
It's hard to say because a lot of the stories so far are similar, but different. For instance, you would have known what was in the barn as soon as you saw the farm at the beginning of the second season, but you wouldn't have known who comes out of the barn last in the mid finale. (trying to be somewhat vague so as not to spoil anyone who is behind). Some of the characters stories are VERY different from the comics. Some people alive on the show died long before this point in the comics, and at least one death that I can think of has still not happened in the books.

I still can't believe how good this show is. I heard some buzz about it last year and decided to buy the first season (all 6 episodes!) on DVD in November and I got hooked right away. Just got done watching the first half of the second season "on demand" and can't wait for it to start back up next Sunday so I can now watch it "live"! Once you get past the gruesome zombies and the occasional gore, the underlying storyline and character development is fantastic!
one of the best comic books out today!!! if you haven't gotten into it yet, or want to get into comics, this is a great book to start on.
Just finished the 1st season, waiting a bit before starting on the 2nd season. I love being late to the party, haha.
Just finished watching the season finale...AMAZING!!

This season was really good.
I have read the graphic novels and at this point they're really tweaking it and starting to pull things from later editions and not go in order which is starting to be a little annoying. My biggest complaint about this season was how much they focused on the triangle between Shane, Lori, and Rick. I loved season 1 because it was pretty much them trying to survive and to figure out what caused this disease and such. The first half of season 2 was spent looking for Sophia, which easily could have been combined into 2 or 3 episodes and been done with it instead of painfully dragging it out. Another complaint it had was in season one, there was the constant threat of the zombies. In 2, they were safely on the farm and the only time there was real conflict was when they left the farm, which to me, as a writer, I find to be kinda a weak push for conflict. The Randall kid also has a better role in the novels, which they should have focused on instead of the Sophia baloney, which ends completely different in the novels, sadly these writers took it in a different direction and now a really nice Carl/Sophia storyline from the books will be left out. I didn't like last nights ending because with the 2 intense deaths prior to this episode, I was expecting a little more intensity and a better cliffhanger than showing the jail in the distance and a mysterious character, who if you read the novels you immediately know who it is. I am curious to see I'd they're going to continue with that helicopter though.i mean where the hell did that come from? Who was it? Where we're they going? If they don't give us any more of that, which I feel like they won't, it's a total cop-out. There's not gonna be random helicopters flying around in a zombie apocalypse haha.

This is why I haven't read that novels yet. I would prefer to watch the show first, and read after because if I did the opposite I would most likely be disappointed. (Hopefully that won't be the case with the Hunger Games, which I read last year and see this weekend!)
I agree with you on the Sophia front; it totally dragged and that's why I wasn't thrilled with the first half of the season. I did like what ended up happening to her though. Despite being terrible I was glad they didn't wrap up that storyline with a pretty little bow. The love triangle didn't bother me so much because I felt it was kind of ignored first season, and it was more about building up Shane's demise.
I did really enjoy the past few episodes though, and the lack of zombies on the farm provided a false sense of security which was just annihilated by the end when they all started attacking the farm. I thought that image of the barn burning was great. And having not read the novels, the prison and the hooded figure were both big "OMG" moments for me. But I could definitely understand why you would be disappointed as I've felt that way quite often when I've seen film adaptations of books I've previously read.
As with (almost all) movie/tv adaptations of books/plays/whatever, there are story lines that either get tossed, screwed up or shown in a way that if you've previously read the book, you might be disappointed/miffed. I'm okay with changes (example: Harry Potter) as long as it keeps the story going and perhaps adds a bit of surprise for the readers. That's my $0.02.
The false sense of safety, the hoard of Walkers storming the farm, and the hooded figure were AWESOME. The love triangle & death of you know who was three episodes late, imo. I'm VERY interested to see what happens next season at the prison, especially with Rick-tator throwing his hissy the last few minutes of the finale.
Overall, great season, but I did like season 1 better just because of the excitement of them trying to survive and get outside the city. Hopefully we'll have lots of twists coming up.![]()
I am kind of disappointed by the show so far. The last episode of the second season it kind of redeemed itself but I hope season 3 doesn't mess the prison up! So much good stuff happens in there!!!

I LOVE this show. I have not read the novels, but being a fan of the Zombie movie genre I really enjoy having a continuing story that we have yet to have any sense of when it will end.
I think that Shane should have been taken out by Rick long before the second to last episode. He was beginning to annoy me. Season 2 was much slower, but I read an interview with one of the writers and he explained that they really wanted to foucus on further character development, and if there was a zombie encouonter in every episode then it would take away from that.
I like the fact that Rick finally told everyone to STHU. He was really trying to keep his morals and make sure the group had a say in the decisions. In most cases, doing that screwed him and it only made things worse. I like the fact that he basically said it's his way and if you don't like it, there's the door.

I personally think the show is awesome. I have also read the comics and am almost up to date. Like most things the book is better than the show but that isn't saying much. The books are a 10 and the show is a 9.5
i love this show. i've seen some pics of the new season and there is a spoiler i didn't see coming. it's pretty cool and i can't wait for season 3 to begin!
Insert signature here.
I love anything that is about the walking dead. I started watching the show first, before reading the comics. I prefer the comics more, but the show is still great. I can't wait till the new season. I am excited for the arrival of Michonne. She is just so bada**. Also I want to see how they pull off the storyline of the prison, because that was so big and long in the comics.
I love TWD and cant wait for the next season.....they should go away from the books and go to WDW...lots of left behind vinylmations in the BG lol

Check out the Trailer for Season 3.....Gonna be 300x better than season 2 IMO. Can't wait for October!!!!

Eeeeeee! So excited! I've been working on a movie here in Michigan with Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori), she's really nice and pretty in person, which makes me even more excited about the new season. I like when actors are actually nice and not stuck up. Plus I'm excited for this season because the girl singing in that preview is Emily Kinney and she's one of my favorite Broadway voices ever since I saw her in Spring Awakening a couple years ago!
