    The Dark Knight Rises

Warner Bros. has officially announced that the sequel to The Dark Knight (Batman 3) will be released on July 20, 2012 in both regular and IMAX theaters. This comes on the heels of this weeks earlier announcement that they’ve teamed up with IMAX for up to 20 additional films.

While there is no official word on what the film is about or even if director Christopher Nolan is going to helm the picture, I think it’s very safe to assume Nolan is back and he’ll start to talk about the movie when promoting Inception this summer.

    More after the jump:

While everyone wondered what day WB would choose to release the next Batman installment, we should have guessed July 20. After all, The Dark Knight got released on July 18, 2008 and Nolan’s next film Inception gets released July 16. He clearly likes that 3rd week in July.
As of right now, the only high profile film getting released in July is Spider-Man and that’s hitting July 3, 2012. I think it’s very safe to assume every other movie studio is going to leave July 20th alone.
Other big movies in summer 2012 are The Avengers (May 4), Madagascar 3 (May 18), BattleshipBrave (May 25), Disney/Pixar’s Brave (June 15) and the Untitled Star Trek Sequel (June 29).

    More as we hear it.

I agree dark knight was REALLY good, I dont think they need to top it, just keep with the flow of great story telling. Batman Begins was terrific, THe Dark Knight was simly awesome. As long as they dont put to many villians in the movie to make it confusing it will be good. It should be just like the dark knight where batman fought the scarecrow in the begining and thats the last you saw of him and then 1 major villian in the movie. I really hope its the riddler and maybe a selena kyle cameo or something along those lines.

I hope Talia Al Ghul is the love interest. She is a superior fighter to Batman, the future mother of his child (Damion) and could link the third film to the first.

I just hope they don't cast some insta-credible guy like Depp to lure people in. They need strong performers who aren't gimmicky.

I'm really hoping that the 3rd part of this series will be good. I know that Christopher Nolan mentioned that the 3rd one will be the final one for the series. I think Dark Knight was a very good way of ending it but knowing how the film industry gets when it makes huge amount of money, they have to have a sequal even though the ending of Dark Knight could have been the closing of the Batman series for Nolan. I'm just hoping that they'll get a really kool villain. I'm hearing The Riddler and if not, The Penguin, tht's the rumor that I've been hearing. I personally think they should bring in Harley Quinn and have Batman enter Arkham Asylum.

Yes this will be good, now that's Nolan is done with Inception we will be starting to ear more about the film. He always said that he only works on one movie at a time. A darker riddler would be nice.

As for the love interest, to one true love interest Batman ever had is Catwoman.

Looks like we have our villains and cast

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

I think I loved everyone in Inception... sigh. Tom was a bit of a scene-stealer, though! I wasn't familiar with him before Inception, so it was pretty nice to see a fresh face too!

I have no question on the casting but my question is, are they the right villain? I'm trusting Christopher Nolan won't be screwing this up like Joel Schumacher did with his version of "Bane". To me, it seems like they are always trying to rush one of the "main" villains on the last movie, i.e. Spider-Man 3 (Venom), Batman and Robin (Bane), and X-Men 3 (everyone Brett Ratner can fit in the movie). Christopher Nolan better becareful on how he treats Bane. But like I said, I have no problem with the casting.

Christopher Nolan has done this series SO right so far. I have high hopes that he won't screw it up with this third and final one!!!

Eh, I wouldn't speak too soon. Nolan certainly isn't above poor casting (Maggie and Katie, for instance). And, while Dark Knight was still good, I had issue with Two-Face's mere two seconds of face time and Joker wearing a "mask" (albeit face paint). I'm not crazy about the title at all, and I've never been blown or anything even close by Hathaway. Selina is alluring, seductive, and all around butt-kicking. I have't seen enough of those attributes associated with Hathaway to be convinced. She could do just fine, but I have my doubts.

I totally agree that the Two-Face had a very short time on The Dark Knight. I think he shouldn't be in there. I personally thought that the Joker could stayed as the main villain and he didn't need anyone. I think the late Heath Ledger did an outstanding maniacal Joker and Jack Nicholson did an outstanding joking Joker. I personally thought that Nolan could have stayed in a story where Joker was in jail, you don't need to show his face since they didn't want to add another Joker beside the late Heath Ledger, and have a female Harley Quinn) deranged fan of a Joker to start going insane in Gotham City.
