when we were there...we barely got to see any of the animals. I guess because of the weather....it was pretty cold and rainy. Disappointed though, that we only saw a few.

I have found that the best time to see the animals on Kilamanjaros Safari is within the last half hour just before they close the ride. There instincts kick in, they know that the tourists in the moving cans will soon be gone so they can roam around
As for the trail walks, never had an issue with being unable to see the animals. Maybe the weather was an issue on your visit, give it another shot on a better day its enjoyable and a good break from the crowds.

i worked at DAK for 3 years and from experience the bast time to ride the safari is just before they close! thats when you see all the animals!~
you also get to see a bunch of animals first thing in the morning. grab your everest fastpass and head over to the safari
yeah the morning has always been the best for me since it's still a little cool out
We always never had a problem with the Safari!!! I am sorry you guys did not see most of the animals.

The first time we went a few years ago it was in the afternoon and it was in january and it we still didn't see too many animals... A few weeks ago we went first thing in the morning with early magic hours, line still long, but saw a lot more of them...
We actually skipped animal kingdom this visit because it was so hot as it was and always seems much hotter at the animal kingdom~!

That sucks. We have never had a problem seeing animals on the trails. We actually planned a morning at AK on our last trip for just the animals/shows and really took our time wandering the trails and watching all of the animals. The hippos were going crazy! And the we saved the rides for another day. It worked out well.
I've been on it 3 times, and the best time I've experienced it was first thing in the morning. We had giraffes cross our paths and make us stop twice (once with a baby) a rhino charge straight at us, and ostrich following us and got to see 90% of the other animals up close. It was a total ride redemption for me because the previous 2 times we went in the afternoon and hardly saw any excitement.

i've heard the best time to see animals is the morning. it also depends on the weather, there have been a few times however where animals come right up to the jeep. those encounters make for some amazing pictures
Just like everyone else I've seen the most animals just after opening or just before close.
I went once, and saw a TON of animals. The first driver was more friendly about taking pictures, and would stop and let people. The second time i went (same day) the guy sped through. it seemed like he was going to get off of work soon and wanted to surge through it...
As for animals, i saw a logt of giraffes, but the cheetahs were hiding. But i DID get a nice picture of the lion!

I'd say either morning, end of the day, or right after a rainstorm are the best time for safari. In general, I look for the Animal Care staff (green shirts). They sometimes have to move or feed animals during the day, and they're very knowledgeable. I find that if I come across a member of the Animal Care staff, even if I just observe I will come away with a neat experience or story.
I love the safari, I just wish that they paused a little longer to be able to take some better photos of the amazing animals. I understand why they don't- need to keep it moving so the wait isn't so long for the ride, but still....In a perfect world, it would be nice![]()
Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow......
I am so sorry if this was already answered in this thread, but the best times to go on the safari to see the lion is about when the last safari takes off..... at least it almost always works for me![]()
We tried this, on an extra magic hour night too, and we saw a keeper cleaning the lions rock area.....I get the feeling there weren't any lions to see!
I did go to my local zoo yesterday and got some awesome photos and videos of the Lions and the Tigers at around 16:00 just before they get taken in at 16:30, so I think it should work as long as they haven't already gone in.
Maybe it was too late, i am so sorry it usually worked for me
