    Christmas Carol

I know we've discussed this before, but I can't find the thread. I'm thinking maybe it was discussed within another movie's thread, so I've created its own. If I'm wrong, please add this one to the original thread and forgive me.

Anyway, the international poster has been released. Pretty cool looking:

Saw the standee for this at the movie theater yesterday. I'm of two minds of this. I love A Christmas Carol, and it's one of the few stories I don't mind seeing remade over and over. I'm just hoping that Zemekis has conquered the Uncanny Valley problem he had with Beowulf.

    Never saw Beowulf.

But, I did hear a review on one of the Disney podcasts I listen to that came in from someone who had been to the traveling promotion thing that the've just started for this film. The person said that they were able to view one of the scenes in 3D from the movie. He said it looked really good and that there was a kid next to him who was scared out of his mind. I think he said it was the scene where Marley visits Scrooge to tell him that he'll be visited by the 3 spirits.

I'm getting pretty excited about this film.

Jim Carey needs a big Hit, I love a Christmas Carol I own 2 different versions, I hope they don't ruin it by trying to make it funny. The story IMO is not a comedy it a story of awakening.

It looks like (knocking on wood) they're trying to keep it true to the book, and not going to make it a comedy. Luckily Jim Carey has proved he can do a serious roll, so hopefully they'll stay true to that.

I agree with your opinion about it not being a comedy; except, I must admit, I LOVE the Muppet's Christmas Carol!!! (very good mixture of the story and humor to keep true to the Muppets.)

The good thing about A Christmas Carol is that it really does lend itself well to interpretation. Comedy versions have been done well, and so have serious ones.

I hope they try to play this one straight, though.

This link has the "Marley Enters" scene (very short glimps) and a minute-ish featurette that's pretty good (both at the bottom). It shows Jim Carrey as Scrooge at four different ages and they captured him to a "t." The young, child Scrooge is excellent, definitely Jim Carrey!

The Italian trailer was kinda bootlegged online. Why haven't we got this in English here yet?? Looks good to me.

I saw the trailer for this movie during Harry Potter last week. Visually, it looks great. My only problem with this (and it's pretty the same problem with any Jim Carrey movie) is that Jim goes for the "face mugging" and over the top articulations of words. It always pulls me out of the movie and makes me think "oh there's Jim Carrey again". I hope it's not like that all throughout the movie, but from the trailer it looks like it is.

Awwww, we didn't get a trailer for it where I saw HP. I was just thinking it's about time we do get one, it's only four months from release now!

I went to see HP in IMAX this weekend and before it they had the 3D trailer for Christmas Carol! It was awesome! You could see the freakin' pores on Scrooges nose!

Also, the train tour is coming to New Olreans this weekend, so my brothers and I are all planning on going! I'll bring a camera just in case I can get some pictures; but since I haven't seen any yet from the other stops, I'm assuming it's not allowed. CAN'T WAIT!!!

That looks like the same trailer they showed in IMAX before HP-HBP, but I could be wrong. I still LOVE that last shot of Scrooge! You can see the freakin' pours on his nose! Incredible!

I think it will have it's chuckles here and there, (rocketing to the moon) but the story itself is very touching and loaded with emotion in a lot of parts, I am sure they will keep all that.
As you said, Carrey can do drama pretty well and is a great voice actor as well, he can swing it.
Funny how you can see and feel so much emotion through animation, it will come across amazing I bet.
