So who's a D23 member? I've been toying with the idea, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. The only benefit I see to it is D23 Expo.

I am a charter member and I love it! The only real benefit right now is the fact that you get the 4 quarterly magazines plus a little gift! If you are close to Disneyland you get 10% off certain stores in Downtown Disney! Also, you get some pretty cool events as well as the ability to buy some interesting merchandise from the parks and Disneystore.com! I will probably renew mine!![]()

If you live near DLR, there are a lot more events and they are more fairly priced and easier to attend. The WDW event prices usually include theme park admission, which I think is dumb b/c if you shelled out the $75 for D23 membership, you probably are a passholder and if not, then buy a ticket. Why should I have to pay $125 for an event that includes a 1 day ticket ($80 value) when I've already given Disney $300+ for my FL AP? But it seems to be working for them, the WDW events sell out in minutes, where as the DLR events don't sell out. As for the Expo, it was announced by Igor at the shareholder meeting that the next Expo will be August 2011 It's been pointed out that the Expo was never promised to be an annual event.

Exactly one year ago, I signed up for D23 not knowing what to expect except a few magazines and discounts to the expo. I calculated, the savings I have if I were to buy the 4 magazines and attend the expo would alone justify the cost in buying a membership.
Little did I know it was a lot more than that. With my membership, I was able to attend the D23's first event, a midnight screening for UP at the El Capitan Theater. An added surprise was the presence of John Ratzenberger to introduce the film to the audience. Toss in the free popcorn and free soda (oh, and did I mention free movie?), this was a really unique experience. The night ended with the theater lobby being filled with balloons and each guest getting a pin commemorating the event. It really was a unique experience that only D23 could provide.
Up next was another event: The Disneyland D23 54th anniversary event which was really unique. Not only was this event free, but also provided a once in a life opportunity to go back stage in Disneyland, got to meet Tony Baxter, Bob Gurr, and Dave Smith. It definitely will be a day I won't forget.
But wait, there's more. I also had the opportunity to attend the Los Angeles premiere of Ponyo, but due to a conflict in my schedule, I couldn't make it.
In addition, the membership provided me to see the Mary Poppins screening which featured Dick Van Dyke as a surprise appearance as Mr. Dawes Sr in the show followed by a Q&A session with the cast, Dick Van Dyke, and Richard Sherman.
Lastly, I conclude my year one membership experience with a one tour of the Walt Disney Studios.
Today, I will use my year 2 membership to attend the Disneyland D23 First Anniversary party where I get to socialize with a new set of Disney celebrities.
So what are my recommendations about getting a membership? Well, for year two, if you love Disney and are based in the SoCal area or are willing to travel, I highly recommend it. This year will feature the member exclusive Destination D event and I am sure that they've got a whole set of surprises for events which should top the ones from last year. The $75 was well worth the price, but of course, one's experience as a membership will vary depending on where they live and willing to travel.
Being on the east coast, it's hard to justify the cost. But, I received it as a gift - so I'm enjoying the magazines![]()

I haven't received my magazine yet either... But I am not too worried. It usually comes without any issue. I love, love, love my D23 membership. I am a charter member and renew without hesitation every year. I love the benefits, the magazine, and of course, the events and cool gifts. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a disney fan!

My mom recently gifted me the D23 Silver Membership and I just got my package for it yesterdayI still don't know much about it, but already loving some of the merchandise on ds.com
Quick question (sorry if it's a lame one![]()
): Are there any noticeable differences between a silver and gold membership aside from the Magazines?
