    Fairest of All

I just picked up Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen by Serena Valentino when I was down at WDW this past week. I've started to read it. It's an easy read, but I'm enjoying it. I love when you get to see different sides of villains or characters that are very one-sided in stories. Anyone else read it? Is Disney Press planning on producing other books with the other villains like this? I hope so! I'd love a book from Cinderella villains Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella, or Malificient. I also love how the books paper sleeve is the Wicked Queen, but when you take it off on the actual hardcover it is the Old Hag where the Wicked Queen was.

I picked this book up after seeing it in WDW in May and I really did enjoy it but I like to think of villains as evil and I'm not a fan of humanising them and make us sympathise them. They are evil and that's the best part about them!!

I really like the villains as evil too, it's who they are. But I really enjoy knowing what makes/made them evil and why they are the way they are! Like how in the beginning she was in love and actually cared for Snow White, I find interesting and I look forward to seeing what makes that change. I'm only a couple chapters in, so I'll let you know if my opinion changes when I'm done.

It works with one or two villains but I feel like some should just be left as they are. Sometimes evil feels more scary when it cannot be explained away. The Queen wanting Snow White's haert was one of the scariest things I've seen when I was really young and even today, its one of my favourite things about her.

It is available as a BN Nook book HERE. My iPad is in the other room so I can't look on iBooks, but I would assume it would be on that as well as Kindle-friendly formats...

I had no choice in the switching over to e-books situation, my mother forbid me from buying any more physical books, because my room is full of them and there is no more room for them in my bedroom so they overflowed to her living room, tv room, dining room, etc

That's my problem. I have wayyyy to many books. I once had this idea that I would own every book I ever read. I've come to the realistic terms that it will never happen. Well, it could happen, it just would make me broke and I would need a house for books. Or a library like in the Beast's castle....

I finished this book. I enjoyed it. I think the author did a really job of keeping the Disney version of Snow White relevant in the story, but actually creating an entirely different story at the same time. I have to say that I really enjoyed the way she did the ending and the choices that the Queen had to make. It is definitely something I'll pick up again for an easy read sometime.

I'd love them to continue this series, preferably with the same author because I like her choices, with other villains. I'd love Lady Tremaine, Ursala, Queen of Hearts, and Cruella.

Sounds like Disneys trying to get soma dat Wicked money!!! I THINK I'LL TRY DEFYING GRAVITY!!~~ KISS ME GOODBYE IM DEFYING GRAVITY!!~ but seriously wicked is great and humanizing villains just makes them misunderstood and if I can squeeze out a tear every once in a while for villains because I know their 400 page back story (which by the way they should do for every other villain I'm talking horned king, ratigan, australian guy from rescuers down under2, lonesome ghosts(what were they like when they were alive?) It makes the story that much better. just my two cents

Wait Wait I just thought of another good philosophical question! Why not make a book addressing the lives of the seven dwarfs? they're like what 60 in the movie? what were they like when they were younger? were they always mining for jewels? did their parents die tragically? what about dopey was he ever smarty?

To be fair, giving a villain a sympathetic back story is a very popular cliche. A lot of films and books flirt with the idea that "evil is not born, it is made". Wicked just happen to be a famous musical with a famous song but it was not the first to do so.
