    Finding Nemo Sequel Confirmed?

    From the disboards/wdwinfo

According to the Hollywood Reporter, 2016 will see the return of one of Pixar's most popular franchises in Finding Nemo 2. The entertainment trade magazine claims Andrew Stanton, who most recently helmed the box office disappointment John Carter, will direct the sequel as he did the original Finding Nemo in 2003. Stanton is no stranger to Pixar, having contributed to the original Toy Story film and winning Academy Awards for both Wall-E and Finding Nemo.

Only a few years ago, most in the industry would have scoffed at the idea of Pixar rolling out sequel after sequel, since there was allegedly a stance at the studio that sequels were not a priority due to a desire to tell original stories. However, the studio has since released two sequels to Toy Story, one sequel to Cars and is in production on a prequel to Monsters Inc. However, it could be argued Finding Nemo is the perfect film for which to add another chapter. Not only does it rank second on Pixar's box office tally (after Toy Story 3) with a global gross of $867 million, there are Nemo-related attractions at three of the six U.S. Disney theme parks.
Now I love Finding Nemo. It is my favorite Pixar film, but do we really need another sequel?

Why, yes, yes we do. Love FN. But only if Dory comes back. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for sharing this! I am on the fence about a sequel. I have actually liked every sequel Pixar has done and I would definitely go and see this one... but it is interesting that Pixar's original stance was to not do sequels and now they are "churning them out".

As long as Gill is back, I'll be happy. I always worry that the sequel won't live up to the first (Cars 2, anybody?), but then again, sometimes I am genuinely surprised (Toy Story 3 was amazing.)

I'm really curious as to what they'd do with the storyline this time around...can't lose Nemo twice, can they?!

Pixar seems to be going a little bit downhill IMO. Cars 2 was just your average kids movie, nothing special about it, as much as it pains me to say that. It was the first bad Pixar movie. Brave was good but not their best effort. NEWT got cancelled because it was too similar to Rio. Monsters Inc. 2 looks to be a really lame, pointless sequel. Once you repeatedly play the sequel card, it starts to seem like you have run out of ideas for new movies. I hope I'm wrong but I don't like where Pixar is going.

This worries me too. It just makes me think of the other studios' franchises...of which I am not a fan. However, I was surprised by Toy Story 2 & 3, so who knows. The trailers for Monster's University did not leave me feeling optimistic about that film but maybe it will be awesome?

I'm fine with sequels as long as they also have new ideas. I'm fine with Monsters U as long as I got Brave. I'm ok with Nemo 2 as long as they come out with The Good Dinosaur.

Dory getting lost would actually make a lot of sense.

it's Pixar, can it really be bad? i still say there should have been an Incredibles sequel by now. i didn't hate Cars 2 although that was clearly made to sell more Cars merch to boys.

I'm ok with sequels, but I actually have a bigger problem when they come 13 years after the first one was made. I'm one of those people who would prefer to see it done 5 yrs after the original. 13 yr after the original was released to me almost seems like they should have left it alone at that point . I'm interested though to see what they're going to do since I enjoyed finding Nemo .

Are we talking about the character or the actor? I think it is true either way.

I am not really excited or disappointed in a Finding Nemo sequel. I am curious to see what story they have to tell that is deserving of a new movie.

i'm hoping to be surprised. i was pleasantly surprised by cars 2 after refusing to watch it for a long time.

i do think it is weird to do a sequel so long after the first, though.
