Suggestion: Let users modify their thread titles

If I want to change the title of my trade thread, I have to go through a big process of PMing multiple mods and waiting several days. It's always been weird that you can't modify your thread title on this board as it's the only board I've ever been on that's like this.

So just a suggestion to make everything easier and smoother.

I totally understand your suggestion and agree to some extent; however, it has never taken days for my thread titles to change. Usually I get a response within a half hour or sooner. Not sure if you already know this, but you can check which staff members are currently online by clicking on the "Forums" tab (or this page: http://vinylnation.net/forums/index.php). At the bottom of the page, there is a list of members online "Currently Active Users" which shows who is online including the staff in purple.

I'm sorry but it doesn't take "days" for us to get something like that. You can send one PM to multiple moderators at one time and it will most likely be taken care of in a matter of a few hours, if not less (unless you're sending the PM in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping.)

I guess I can't take offense to something I never received. I'm on multiple multiple times everyday and hardly ever receive PM's in regards to thread title changes. When I do it's usually done fairly quickly. It does not take days to complete. My only guess is you are sending a pm to a mod who may not be around for a few days due to other reasons outside of the forum.

As disneyobsessed and mshalloween pointed out check to see which Staff Members are actually online at the time of sending the PM's and send one pm to all. We will all receive the pm and someone will take care of it and inform the other Staff Members as well as yourself that it has been taken care of .

That's true. I don't recall receiving a PM about this either. Every time I've gotten a request from other members it has been done within minutes, and I get probably one request once a month, tops.

Well regardless of how long it takes, why not just give the users power to change their own thread titles? Is there a specific reason that they aren't allow to? I'm not mad about anything, it just seems like it would be better for both ends.

I understand where you are coming from, but I do not appreciate the tone of your suggestionin regards to the Staff. The Staff Team works very hard each day to make sure every member is accommodated. We cannot always get to things as soon as every member would like, but we do get to them as soon as we can. When we realize we will not get to something as fast as we would like we request another Staff Member to help out. We do try our best to help each member to the very best of our ability and I hope our members know this. As I said I will bring your suggestion to Sledge and see what he says and follow up with you later .

Most other forums (if not all) I've been a member or moderator of have allowed anyone to change their own thread titles. It's one less thing for the staff to worry about so they can get to more important tasks. I've tried to change a thread title here once, realized I couldn't, and gave up. It wasnt worth the time to bug somebody about it. I would like to see this ability added here as well.

I too have been part of a site where this was allowed, but the site wasn't nearly as large, and the mods weren't nearly as helpful never had a problem with this, and I can't help but feel that if the forum allows this, it just means that the mods will have to work double time to make sure that the titles aren't changed to something improper, or goes against forum rules.

What about a 'zero tolerance' rule? Change the title to something idiotic and you are no longer part of the community

Here's the thing: we don't worry about it. I literally get one request every two months, if that. It's so rare to hear from a member asking me to change their thread title, and when they do, I can usually take care of it immediately as it's a very quick process. I guess my whole opinion on this is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I honestly didn't mean to have any negative tone, so sorry if it came across like that. I have no problem with the staff. I didn't know about the thing to see which mods were online, so I just PMed the two mods that I prefer/have the most contact with. If this doesn't get fixed, I guess I know how to better go about doing it in the future.

Just for reference compared to other boards I'm a member of, The Fwoosh, Kidrobot, and Something Awful all allow user thread name changes, and they're all much bigger forums than Vinylnation.
