    Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This thread is about all things Skyrim. Due to the massive size of the game I felt it needed it's own thread. This thread is to talk about thoughts, comments, reviews, self progress in the game and the like. I picked the Imperial class mostly because I love the straight combat of hand to hand rather than magic or stealth.

I got the game last week and have only played for a little but and I love the game. I do have a few problems with it though. 1. Your character doesn't talk which bothers me. After playing Mass Effect all summer and having my character talk up a storm, I feel that in Skyrim I'm just a bunch of pixels that looks like a guy killing things and people without any emotion. I know that in Zelda Link doesn't talk but he has emotion during cutscenes. 2. The combat feels very delayed. Maybe it's just with my PC but I have to hold down the attack button for a second or so and then my character takes out his weapon and attacks. Like I said, it may just be my PC but I don't like it. 3. The menus seem like a console version that was ported to the PC which is the case but I feel they should have made it better suited to the PC with the keyboard and the mouse.

Other than those problems I think the game is great. The graphics are stunning and the world is just so big there's so much to do. So many sidequests to do that you can do other things before heading out and continuing the main story. I do find it a little confusing though when it comes to smithing/forging, alchemy and making new potions with ingrediants. I can't wait to continue this game and see what more it has instore for me.

Been playing Skyrim for a few weeks now and i'm at a point where i can't even remember which mission relates to the main quest! I agree with you about the combat, i usually get my weapon out as soon as i see an enemy as it's quite frustrating getting hit before even getting out the battle axe. I'm quite enjoying the randomness of the dragons, just walking along and all of a sudden being attacked from above!

If you're having problems with alchemy, you can eat the ingredients to reveal what effects they have, as long as you mix at least 2 ingredients with the same effect you'll make a potion with the shared effect.

I have also been playing allot of Skyrim. I am LVL 27 or 28 and just got my full set of Epic glass armor and weapons that I made myself. So I am kicking but atm. My guy is a Light armor 1h axe, 1h destruction magic with stealth and bows for openers. It has worked very well so far.

As far as Smithing just smelt the ores in a smelter, and make leather and some leather strips at the tanning rack, then craft items at the forge. You can only craft certain types (leather/ Iron) until you skill it up. Also don't forget to use the grindstone and workbench to upgrade your weapons and armor.

I watched a video on smithing and kind of "cheating" but not really. I'm just making a load of iron daggers with as much iron ingots that i can buy and then selling them. It gets your smithing level up so quickly. I now have to decide on whether or not I want to go to Dwarven or Elven Armor for my character. I just came across an enemy with Dwarven Armor but can't carry it because I'd be over the limit so I'm at a little crossroads..... do I pick it up and wear it but I'd have to drop my steel armor. I'm not able to fast travel to a town to sell my steel armor and then go back to the dead body to pick up the Dwarven because the body disappears. I could always wait and continue with my steel armor and just make Dwarven at another time. The difference between the 2 armors is only 4 so it's not a big deal. I'm also having a very hard time with dragons. I can't kill them with any ease or anything because I can't seem to hit them with anything. I suck at archery, any tips on that?

Well Elven armor is light and Dwarven is heavy so which do you want to specialize in?? In order to get enough points in one to be very effective you have to pick either light or heavy. Also you say it is only a 4 point difference but if you upgrade the armor with smithing it will be WAY better than what you are wearing.

As far as the dragons go try to run to a flat piece of land so the dragon will land and you can hit him. If that does not work use scrolls/magic/or bow to bring him to the ground.

What are the pros and cons to Elven and Dwarven Armor and in your opinion which do you do is better? And Do you think I should pick up this guys armor and then go to the forge and upgrade it? Or should I pick it up and sell it to go make some Elven stuff?

My guy is light armor (because he is heavy into sneak) so I would get the even guilded armor and upgrade the whole Elven set. If your guy is just a run in with sword and shield or two swords something like that I would go heavy armor so you can avoid the damage. If you are currently wearing steal heavy it is defiantly worth getting the Dwarven and upgrading. I am pretty sure the next step from Dwarven is Ebony then Dragon bone.

Ok cool. Yeah my character is go in and kill everyone with a sword and a shield. I'll go and pick up that Dwarven armor though I'm sad I'll lose the money for the steel armor. I am trying to upgrade my spells though so I have options other than just a sword. Maybe I'll also invest into upgrading my steel silver sword or something. This game is very very intense and in depth it's crazy

Kind of a bump and kind of a comment/question.

I keep saying I'm going to watch some shows I needed to catch up on but continue to play Skyrim for a few hours. Last night I killed 2 dragons in the same area (I forget exactly) and the problem is that I didn't absorb the 2nd soul. It just stayed there with it's flesh on and didn't do the whole soul absorb thing. I was reading that you can't absorb the same dragon soul more than once but not sure how true that is. I came across one in Riverwood and by accident Feundal died as did I so I had to restart. In the place with the other 2 I was so close to killing it and I shot a fireball and a guard for the town got in the way so she died from my fire and then the other guards started to shoot me and proceeded to kill me. Where are these NPC's priorities??? There's a huge effin dragon and they're trying to kill me!?!?! So any ideas as to my soul absorb problem?

I've also decided to go with a full on mage with some skill in 1 handed combat. My health is 200 and I am getting destroyed by enemies so I'm thinking I'll have to keep my armor as heavy instead of light. I also have no potions so I need to make them or buy them but I have no idea what ingrediants go with what

Seems like a weird glitch with that dragon soul. Put some perks into the armor class you choose, that should help. You can also upgrade your armor at a workbench with minimal materials usually. Haven't really bothered with alchemy...there's usually tons of potions laying around. Buy yourself a restoration spell, that should help too.

I've been playing Skyrim like crazy the past few weeks. Incredible game!

My guy is a Lvl 32 Argonian, mostly mage (werewolf). I'm sporting all Epic glass armor with Fortify Destruction so I have zero cost destruction spells.
I wield an Epic glass sword, Exquisite ebony sword w/ soul trap and an ebony bow.

I've barely touched the Main Quest...just leveling up with side quests and wandering. I've completed the Companions and College of Winterhold quest lines.

I haven't played Skyrim in almost 2 weeks. It's just such a massive game that I don'[t know what to do next. I have like a million misc. quests to do and I keep getting new ones with each person that I talk to even without knowing. I'll probably get back to playing it soon but it's just so massive that I have no idea what to do next

How buggy is this game? I'm a huge fan of the Fallout series, but the one thing I couldn't stand in New Vegas was the number of times it would freeze on me (PS3).

Ok so I've decided I want to be a mage with 1 handed combat. Right now I have for my waepons a flawless Skyforge sword with soul trap, upgraded elven mace and upgraded ebony axe (the latter 2 are just once upgraded and i forget the names). My uncertainty still lies in the armor. I haven't decided if I want to go with light or heavy. I feel that I should go with heavy because obviously you can take more damage but with light you can run around faster and run after enemies. Also, where did you find the fortify destruction enchantment? I'd love to get that because I use a lot of destruction spellsmore than I do conjuration or illusion. I'm sure where you found it will be in a different place than where I can find it but I really want it. Basically right now I'm finding ways to upgrade my trees quickly without really going out into battle to do it. I'm thinking of doing the smithing "cheat" and then getting a lot of perks and then spreading that out. Also, an easy way to upgrade some skills is talk to the Companions and make them your follower and have them train you in whatever it is they can and do it 5 times (which is the max per level). Then go trade with them and take your money back. I got my heavy armor up to 90 by doing this a lot with Farkas and I just did a little bit of it yesterday with someone else for single handed weapons. Make sure they are your follower or you'll lose the money
