    JAWS to close January 2

Just heard from several JAWS Skippers that the attraction and Amity area itself will close January 2.

Also heard it on Twitter... I actually wish it's false. It's a fun little ride I would do every time I was in Universal a long time ago. :\

I know! Here is the official announcement from UO's Facebook:

"Hey fans, we want you to be the first to know… JAWS! and the Amity area will officially close on January 2 to make room for an exciting, NEW, experience we’re planning for you.

We know you love JAWS! and we do too. It has been an amazing attraction and after terrorizing the waters of Amity here at Universal Orlando for 20 years, it’s a VERY important part of our history. So, we’ve got a couple things planned to ensure we always remember and honor it. We know it’s hard to say goodbye, but we can’t express how EXCITED we are about the new, innovative & amazing experience we’re going to be bringing you."

Oh wow! I can't believe they are renovating/re-doing the Jaws attraction!! My family and I are hitting up Universal over Christmastime so I guess I will have to say goodbye then! I guess I understand, though. Jaws IS pretty old and there are a lot of fun things they could do with the area. I'm interested to see what they come up with, but I hope they leave the huge hanging Jaws up for nostalgia purposes

I do have to agree with you! I am very curious to see if they prove the rumor spreaders wrong and it ends up being something completely different than what they have done in the past! I just hope ET isn't next on the chopping block. :-(

Well thats sad news. Although there is not much to the ride there is some big time nostalgia behind it. My kids got to see him for the first time 2 years back and they loved it. At least they got to see it at least once in their lifetime. Universal needs an over haul though. They need to at least throw some new paint on everything to make it look good. Jurrasic park needs some serious love.

I am really bummed about this. I was shocked to read this news and thought it would be the last thing I would ever hear. Jaws is one of my favorite rides. First BttF, now this :*(.

I'm sad to see it go since it brings back such great memories from family trips in the past. I just hope we can plan one last trip before Jan. 2 just to be able to ride it one last time

Glad we went on the ride this summer! I wouldn't have experienced it before it closed. I good they're putting in something really good, regular universal is kind of boring compared to islands of adventure and Disney

I know the writing was on the wall, but I'm still not happy. I sharks, and I was even willing to risk the potential wet-butt seats on Jaws just to see an animatronic one.

With all the other things Universal should have taken out or redeveloped first (the empty area where the Murder She Wrote/Hercules and Xena show used to be, the animal show, Fear Factor, ET - sorry, MouseMasters, but with the exception of the uniquely-scented forest room, I just abhor ET ), it doesn't make sense that they yank out a Universal staple.

I have the USF tour VHS from the '90's hosted by John Forsythe and it takes you around all the rides and shows (a majority of it now is extinct attractions), but I love it just the same. I'm gonna go watch it in honor of Jaws.

I just went on Jaws in October after not having been to Universal since before Islands of adventure was built! it was actually one of my favorite rides at the studios park...along with ET ( I will forever love ET)
I did think Universal Studios was looking pretty outdated and in need of some new stuff... too bad Jaws will have to bite the dust though. We really had a great time riding it. Glad I got to do it one last time before it goes away.
