What's up with the hours for Disneyland???

Does anyone know how Disneyland constitutes the decision for the change in their hours? I'm curious because we are going to be there the week after Thanksgiving (which I've heard is an awesome time to go) but the park hours suddenly change to 9AM - 8PM for that week when just the week before it is 8AM - Midnight. Anyone know why? Then a week or 2 later they switch back to the regular 8-midnight time. We're gonna get robbed of 15 hours total!

thanksgiving week is usually incredibly busy, but the week before and after are generally some of the least busy times of the year for the parks.

edited to add: you are likely to get in more rides/attractions the week after thanksgiving, than those who visit during the week of the holiday. trust me, i've been to disneyland for last thanksgiving and it was a zoo.

They reduce the park hours down at the least crowded times of the year.

You have heard that those weeks are an awesome time to go to Disneyland because it is between the crowded time up to Thanksgiving and the very crowded time just before Xmas.

Because it won't be so crowded you will be able to get as much done as a longer day/more crowds.

    ^ that makes sense.

Even though Disneyland closes early on those dates, I read that Main Street stays open later. So I would ask how late Main Street stays open and leave that until last. There are lots of things to see and do on Main Street - not the same as the rides and the rest of the park - but this would still extend your days a bit longer.

Aside: I am so excited! I am now at 49 posts!

I love that Main Street usually stays open later- in my experience it really makes the day seem longer and more full when we end there

I think Main Street remains open 1 hour after park closing, regardless of the day.

It stinks but it also means that you are there during a much less crowded time. I don't know if you are familiar with the Touring Plans Crowd Calendar but the week before they are at a 10 out of 10 from Wednesday to Sunday. The week you are going they are around 3 out of 10.

Thanks everyone! This is all god info to have. I was a little bummed that the hours were so drastically reduced for ONLY the week that we were going to be there... but as long as we can still get a full day in then I'm good. And we will definitely do Main Street last now!

I'm not familiar with that. I'm guessing 10 means being the busiest and 3 is on the lesser busy time?

Yes. I was trying to find their definitions but haven't had any luck with those right now. If I find them I'll post them.

I wouldn't worry about the early closing times, they really aren't busy and you can ride (in my case) space mountain as many times as u want!
