Vinylmation Pixar Shorts

We're back! Thank you everyone for the support on the Vinylmation Horses set. We had a blast doing it and we are going to be making a new set. Just to clear up this question: "Will we be making these and/or the horses in 3D form?" The answer is still "hopefully / possibly." We are still waiting for the new mold to come in blanks and then we will have to decide if it is a good idea.

For now, we are making another digital set in the same format as the last one, and a matching poster. The poster is shown below and the included designs are more or less decided on. This one really came together right away when I thought of it. I had been searching for so long to think of something we could do that PROBABLY will never be made by Disney..because that really is the fun of doing this.

The main thing we want to do with this set is to not use any pixar shorts/characters that are from actual movies. For example, toy story / cars / incredibles, etc. Those will all end up on vinyls one day, and they are from regular movies and not exclusively shorts. We want to really pay tribute to some of the characters that are from shorts only. This also ensures that these will probably never be made by Disney.

I said this on the other thread, but the original idea was to make a "creatures" set. But Disney just announced the furry friend set, and I also believe that many of the creatures I wanted to do will eventually be made for real, so I was always hesitant about the idea. I'm really excited about this new set and having a matching poster to put next to horses!

As always, let us know what you think about anything relating to this. We will be printing the actual posters once we make all the designs. They will be the same exact material and size as last time. Anyone that posts on this thread will automatically be entered to win a free one when we are done . Just for fun of course, and a way to say thanks to everyone.















Not that anyone cares, but I was able to find the exact font used in the pixar logo and shorts logo to repeat throughout the poster to label each vinyl..which as a graphic designer completely made my day. And if you can't read the names, well that's 1/2 the point at this time

Edit: and I care that you found the pixar font, that's awesome! I like stuff like that (definitely made my day when I downloaded the Disney font Waltograph)

Thanks guys, first design is up! This is one of the first shorts, so he is really "interestingly" animated..and he has a lot of weird shaped and gradients we tried to recreate in the flat color vinyl form.

Thanks Hawk! let me know if you guys like the actual poster too. Its pretty basic but I wanted to keep it in character for pixar.

Oh my gosh, I'm in love!!!!! that's one of my favorite Pixar shorts! That and for the birds and the Presto. Well done!! I can't wait to see it on the vinyl form!

The second design comes form the first ever Pixar short, "The Adventures of Andre and Wally B." If you have never seen it..all I can say is you would just have to see for yourself. It's a very "interesting" short. Ill give them a break because it's from 1989, but the plot is pretty much non existent, and Andre sounds a heck of a lot like a certain duck. Anyway, I have mixed feelings about this one because while I think it looks a lot like him, Andre is really just an ugly character from the start and the quality is so poor in the videos of this short that the colors are basically lost in a lot of places. It can be anyone's guess what some of the minor colors actually are. And this is just how the video is. Even if you go on the actual Pixar website and view the short the quality is awful. I watched this short more times than I care to admit to just try to figure out some of the colors and such. Some other things, like his shoe tops only appear in a few frames. And due to the resolution of the video, you never quite can tell just what the marking are on his hat. We decoded it as best as possible though.

We couldn't snub him since this short is the original.

Here is a picture of Andre. Wally B. is obviously the bee. To summarize the short..Wally is sleeping, a bee comes, andre runs, you never really see what happens but it's implied he got stung (I think)..roll credits.

I love the Horse Poster and I love this too. The thing I'm most impressed with is how perfect your designs fit on the new mold. I prefer the old mold, so a design really has to impress me for me to want it on the new mold, and yours do, hands down. I don't know that I've ever seen these first 2 Pixar shorts, but I still like the designs, especially the Snow Man, that's fantastic. Really looking forward to seeing the rest!

Thank you the first two shorts were very old but were getting to the good ones . We are doing Geri for sure and the next one is day and night. I know they already did DCL day and night but this is completely different and I think it is going to be a favorite. It has a ton of detail so it's going to take me some time to trace and color. I can't wait to share it tomorrow.

Most of the shorts can be found on YouTube if anyone is interested in seeing them. They are mostly very short.

Thanks Day and Night is probably one of my favorite shorts so it was worth the 8+ hours lol. Plus I think the initial sketching was a couple of hours.

love this project!! I love Pixar and it's really fun to see all the Pixar shorts character on the vinyl mold. I hope you decide to make some of these as VM's as well as the poster.

also I know with the horse poster you made sheets with all the horses on them, any chance of printing individual designs? the detail on Night and Day would really do well on a sheet all its own.

Yea I agree that day and night could be a stand alone also. I've printed a couple of test sheets at school and it is decent size and clarity. I know it wouldn't increase the size, but I was considering making artist cards for this and the horse set. I would get them profesionally printed on the same size and material paper.

Kind of unrelated, but as I said in the last thread I am putting my horse print in the art show at my college this weekend...I just hung it today. That's all my stuff there actually. Hope I win a ribbon on the horse print I need to put a description under it still.

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback! Day and Night was brutal by the way haha. We both spent hours on him but we're so proud of the final product. I already started designing our next one which will be "For the birds". We will have it done and posted by tomorrow night and hopefully you guys will like it =). To loyal fans and new fans alike we hope you like our sets! This won't be the last one either ;)

The much delayed 4th design is birds on a wire. This was tinkered with quite a bit for the past few days- but I am finally happy with it
