EXCLUSIVE Press only Aulani Vinylmation release...

So... hate to share this, but I just returned from Disney's Aulani's grand opening in Hawaii. Select press attendees staying at the resort were given a special present after the Grand Opening Presentation. A numbered and limited hand-painted Vinylmation by a Hawaiian artist housed in a 2-piece custom hand-made wicker box wrapped with a Disney's Aulani Grand Opening sleeve of paper. Inside is a printed description and numbering. Artistically, they are definitely an acquired taste... but are EXTREMELY limited. (These are not the for-sale Menehune ones from the store -- the are very crudely hand painted)

I am sure most of the press have little idea how special these are.

Disney was very controlling over the distribution of these... printed lists checked by staff, cards and a table to recheck before being handed one of the boxes.

These are the only two I saw... and I know the 750 were done by at least two artists. These are the same guys who did the murals all over the resort. From the looks of them, they didn't have a lot of time to spend on each one. Actually surprised by the number -- but there were a lot of press there. Very cool in different ways -- local Hawaiian artists with direct ties to Disney and Aulani... and a very limited number with each one being completely different. No two alike. Very lucky to have two since they were policing them EXTREMELY closely. Regardless of how they look, they are an officially sanctioned series of one-of-a-kinds. Has Disney done this before?

i love the weaved lauhala basket! i'm jealous.

definitely not what i was expecting, but i've looked at some of his other works and the technique he uses are probably not suited that well to a small canvas

I've seen the box on the grand opening web site but didn't think they would have special artist ones inside. thought just the regular menehune.

I really love the brown and red one but the blue one not so much. Very interesting. Each one of the 750 are one of a kind. Beautiful presentation. Sad to say eBay scammers will be trying to fake these to make some cash.

Well, the pictures say there is a certificate of authenticity, so that might help cut that down.

The more I look at the brown and red one the more I love it. I know they are one of a kind but I'm drawn to it. I love the "eyes". Kinda reminds me of the volcano.
