Are You a True Team Fan?

It's easy to be a front-runner fan - but what about the teams that win once in a "blue moon"?
I am talking about the fans that go to the game even though they know their team sucks and will not win the game. The fan that goes to the game - rain or shine, hot or cold to root for their beloved team. I am not talking about the fans that start crawling out of the woodwork & make commuting to the game a nighmare because all of a sudden their team is in first place. A fan that has always been, is, and will always be a fan of that one team - no matter what!!!

I believe I am a true fan because I am a NY METS fan!!!!

I suppose I'm a true Blue Jays fan. They haven't been particularly good in ages, but it makes for a fun cheap outing win or lose.

I think I'm a true fan, eventhough I got into my teams when they were in the playoffs and in the case of the 49ers when they won their 4th Superbowl. I only root for two teams. The Anaheim Ducks and SF 49ers. I don't even watch any other game other than the games those two teams play in unless another game was important to our cause. 49ers have been pretty horrible ever since Garcia and Owens left but I have not jumped ship like most people. I don't go to the games since I live 5 hours south of the Bay Area but I do pay for Sunday Ticket every season eventhough I know they will lose more than they will win. My friends and other people like to make fun of the Niners because they one, are not good and two, because of the city of SF and their association with a huge gay population.

In the case of the Ducks, the majority of NHL fans hate them and love to make fun of their fans. So you'd have to be a real fan to put up with that kind of abuse all the time. Having them based on a Disney movie doesn't help either. I try to go to the games whenever I can, especially the playoffs but I live an hour away from Anaheim without traffic but it's just too much hastle going thru that traffic on weekdays. I would definitely get season tickets if I lived closer.

I don't know about the outings to a stadium being cheap but they usually are enjoyable if your team wins. Once Wednesday comes and the Mets finish their season then I am done with baseball untill next year. We have visited other MLB park but only to see the Mets play. Have been to Wrigley field to see them lose but they did win in Toronto. I just can't watch any other team play and I don't understand the people who wear a team jersey when there team is not even playing (that might be a personal peeve)!

I suppose i'm a true Golden State Warriors fan. For a team that only made the playoffs once in 17 years, and we are still buying season tickets? I just hope that the lockout ends.

Do you have full season tickets or a partial plan like I do (15 games - 10 Saturdays & 5 weekday) for Citifield in Flushing, Queens - NY ? I was thinking of cancelling mine after 25 years when I saw all these specials with food included! Of course they tell me that those specials are not guaranteed but with the money I save, I can pick and choose a few good games to go to each year.

I listened to as many Pens games as I could (which was almost all of them) on my computer at school at Virginia Tech. This was during the years when the Pens traded away all of their good players and were terrible. One of the most meaningful Pens wins for me that I can remember is when they finally won to end a 15 or 16 game losing streak in '03 or '04.

I'm really don't follow the Pirates anymore but 19 straight years of losing will do that. I guess I'm not a true fan of them.

I feel your pain & so do a lot of other true fans. It's really easy to wake up one morning and say - I am a Yankee fan, my team is in the playoffs, blah, blah, blah. If they lose during the first round they say - Well at least we got there what about your team? Don't give up totally - The Pirates were doing well for quite a bit before their downturn. The METS have one of the highest payrolls (still paying players that have not played for them in years!) and have nothing to show for it!

i'd consider myself a true blackhawks fan. back in the day no one would go to the games, so you could basically sit anywhere you wanted. the worst was that the old owner didn't want to put games on tv. i never stopped loving/following/supporting them, though, and i never will.

You can't win as a NY METS fan! The only bright spot of the season was Jose Reyes winning the batting title by taking himself out of the game after a 1st inning bunt single! Now the media & lots of fans & haters & ball players are "negatizing" his accomplishment. Worse thing about it is he may be leaving for free agency. There are not too many people who can play under the Jet fumes in Flushing, Queens - and the organization should try to keep them and not let them go like they did to Tom Seaver!

I feel I am a "true fan." I have been a Seahawks fan since the 3rd grade. Never cheered for another team since. The 2005 Superbowl was rigged and it pisses me off because they will most likely NEVER make it to another Super Bowl.

I've also been a Utah Jazz fan and a Utah Utes fan for life. I never root for any other teams and never will. It will just make it that much sweeter when a team that you've rooted for FOR YEARS finally wins the big one as opposed to when a team you decided to start rooting for mid-season wins the big one.

That's what makes it all "Magical" - the underdogs who come from nowhere and make it to the top!

I support Millwall FC in a predominantly West Ham FC area, most people would say that makes me nuts, I'm going with true fan even though I don't make it to games (I have to work every Saturday so it makes it impossible)

I'm another lifelong Jazz fan. They love to give you hope and dash it. If there is a season this year I don't expect much but there will be a point at some time during the season that I will be convinced that they are going to have a decent year. Then they will lose 12 out of 13.

I have also been a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan forever. The Twins are close to reliable and at least I was able to witness a world series. 20 years ago but it counts. I started cheering for them in 1989 when I started collecting baseball cards so I missed out in the 1987 world series.

I should give up on the Vikings but I can't.

I'm a true Sharks fan. I went to their very first game in the NHL, have been a fan since, and they will always be my #1 team win or lose. I can't get to many games in person because of $$ (gas when you live an hour away sucks) but that doesn't make or break a fan. I bleed teal even when all the promise of the regular season just falls to hell once the playoffs roll around and I always will.

I've been an Alabama fan since I was born (most of family us an Alabama fan so it was bread into me) even when they started the season a few years ago at #2 and fell to 3-9 sad times but, I was still rooting for um. I've also been a saints fan forever (yes even when they were wearing the bags) I love my teams no matter what.
