I just have to say that I'm pretty annoyed that Disney made the Wine & Dine weekend the last weekend in September instead of the first weekend in October. The weather seems to be just a *little* bit nicer that first weekend of October!
Okay guys, I think I've officially lost it. After talking with a friend this weekend, who is training for a full marathon in March, I now want to do one. Have any of you guys ran a full?? The one I found that I would most likely do in the spring is March 18. I wonder if I have enough time to train.....
You know, just after I post about being annoyed with the Wine & Dine date... DISNEY MOVED IT!!!! I am SO excited. They moved it to make way for the TOWER OF TERROR 10-MILER!!!!! I really could not be happier about any of this. I'll be running both races!!
If you’re a runner, Christmas is coming a little early for you thanks to our runDisney team, which thinks it’s found the perfect gift for you. Open it up by clicking on this video.
Yep, we’re reviving the popular The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror theme and creating The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend at Walt Disney World Resort in 2012. If you like to have a scary good time when you run, this race will be the perfect weekend much like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K race we last staged at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2009.
This new race, scheduled for Sept. 29, will follow a similar course – through the set of “Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show’’ and past Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat – but features runDisney’s first-ever 10-mile distance that finishes, appropriately enough, near The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction. If you “survive’’ the experience, you’ll be treated to a shiny new medal and a rocking post-race party with your family and friends that features live music, Disney characters and exclusive access to attractions such as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Star Tours, Toy Story Mania! and, of course, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
The new The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror race is our sixth signature runDisney event and the second nighttime race at Walt Disney World Resort. To make room for it, though, we’re shifting our other nighttime event, the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, to Nov. 9-10 during the final weekend of the popular Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.
Like all runDisney events, the race weekend will feature a variety of events, including a 5K, kid’s races and a Health & Fitness Expo all at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.
Mark your calendars now for Feb. 14. That’s the day you can start registering for the new race at runDisney.com. Should be a “terror-ably’’ good time.

I just read about the Tower of Terror Ten Miler in the Sentinel this morning, lo and behold it's been announced since last week. Way to be timely, newspaper.
Now then, hooray!
I the November date for the Wine and Dine, as there's usually a chill creeping into the air, and I seriously missed having a good Halloween race this year (an AK 5k with no free ticket to MNSSHP = no Halloween race for me ). The Tower of Terror not only sounds awesome, but it'll be an awesome test for that final month of training for the Wine and Dine.
I seriously haven't been this excited about a race calendar since they announced the Wine and Dine (which was just two years ago, but still! ).
First Medal of the year!
Ran a 5k on Jan 1 with my friend who just recently started running (we ran a Halloween 5k together back in October
We ran PRs and got treated to pulled pork, black eyed peas and cole slaw as part of the post race eats/ festivities.
Okay...now onto Disney Races:
I was seriously thinking about doing the Wine & Dine this year, but now with the announcement of the TOT 10 miler I am torn between races!
I can't afford to do both since traveling from Ohio is a little costly. I like the time of year for the Wine & Dine better... but it would be a lot of fun to run the innaugural TOT Race.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to choose?

Congrats! I love the medal-biting pose; can't go wrong with a classic!
As for the Disney races, I can say that my big interest in the Wine and Dine was having run the inaugural one. There's something special to me about being in the first-ever event, you know? Of course, I think both these races will be great, but the inaugural ToT Ten Miler is probably how I'd go.
Anyone remember the old ToT race? I think it was a 10k, but I can't think of it off hand.

Congrats on your first medal of the year!
I really don't know how to tell you to choose which race to run as I can't do that myself (I plan on running both). I think the ToT race sounds AMAZING and I admit, I might be a little bit more excited for that one! However, the fact that the W&D is now in November is a HUGE plus, not to mention, I adore that race, soooo... yeah, I'm no help! I've ran both W&D half marathons and even though I know there have been a lot of complaints, I loved them both. I don't know if you can beat that after party, plus, running through three parks is pretty sweet. The ToT race sounds pretty amazing, too, as I love all things "spooky" and "scary", plus the 10-mile distance might be my favorite! Maybe just toss a coin and see which side it lands on... lol. I'm no help, sorry

I wasn't as into running when they had the old ToT race, but when I found out about it (after it had already been run and there didn't seem to be another one in the works) I was SO disappointed! So, imagine my excitement when I saw this announced! The old race was a 13K - on one hand I wish they had kept that distance because I like the '13' part, but I really REALLY like the 10-mile distance, so I'm totally happy with that. Honestly, 13K isn't THAT far and Disney races are SO expensive so I feel like I get more bang for my buck when I have to run further.
And, on another note........ over Christmas I signed up for my first FULL MARATHON. I have lost my mind! It's on March 18 in Virginia Beach, the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon. I'm SUPER pumped, but quite a bit nervous! Training is going well so far, so we'll see.....
So who is going to be racing this weekend at WDW? I'm just doing the 5k, doctor's orders, but my mom is coming down to do the Donald and one half of the new Chip and Dale Relay!
The Tower of Terror is so exciting! I thought the only long race I was going to be able to get to do this year was the Wine and Dine so another in the later half of the year is exciting!
But the race I'm looking forward to is Expedition Everest! It was such a great time last year! Now to find a partner. Hmmm...

13k is nice for the theme, but yeah, I agree that it's not really long enough to be too exciting. 15k maybe, but if you're going that far, may as well make it 10 miles, right?

Awesome! Good luck!
I keep toying with the idea of making the step up, but I inevitably balk at the time commitment. 22-milers just in training do not excite me at all.

Excited and at least after the Wine and Dine, a bit entitled. I feel like by wearing our medals, people should get out of our way on the paths, and we ought to be allowed to cut the food line in front of non-runners. Hey, we earned our tickets! The rest of them just paid to get in.

No kidding. I worked out a calendar of my training schedule and oh boy... it does NOT look exciting! However, I guess I just feel like I've done so many half marathons now (and I still have 3 coming up between now and my full marathon) that I need to challenge myself to something else. I guess I could have worked on cutting my time down, but honestly, the run isn't about the time for me. It's about the distance and the accomplishment of finishing. I am NOT a fast runner by any means so I guess it's just not important to me. I thought about a triathalon, but I don't have any interest in one of those. So, marathon it is!

I couldn't agree more! Although I inevitably get stuck in the lines because I am on the slower side and finish later.. haha. Maybe THAT should be my incentive to run faster?
I'm headed down in a few week for the DL Never Land 5K with my wife and our friends. My wife is also doing the Tinkerbell 1/2. Def looking forward to the 5K since it will be my first night race! We all decided to dress up in custom so if you see a Peter Pan it might be me!! I was considering a lost boy but I wondered if anyone would get it - besides I already have a Peter Pan costume and lost boy costumes are hard to find (who really needs an adult sized skunk costume after all?). =)
Will I see anyone else there??
The wonderful. The amazing. The 9th wonder of the world.... the BACK SIDE of water!!
I just came back from WDW the other day and had a lot of fun during Marathon weekend. My wife and I ran in the 5K and a few of our friends in relatives did the full and half marathons. The 5K was really neat, especially being in Epcot as the sun was rising with all of the music and lights on - pretty awesome. My only complaint is that 5K is so short that several people didn't even bother to run and just walked the whole time so that they could get pictures with the characters along the way. I feel like they should make a separate lane for the walkers just because there were so many and it was really hard to run around them during the race.
There was also a special appearance from Tony Horton, the P90X guy, at the beginning of the half-marathon. As a P90Xer, I thought this was awesome.
I had a lot of fun though and am planning to do the Tower of Terror 10 miler in September. That one looks like a lot of fun too!

The 5ks at Disney aren't serious races. They are Family Fun Runs, for families of runners doing the longer distances. They are designed to be less serious, so that's why you ran into that situation.
I know that the race wasn't serious (nobody was timed), but there were folks lined up in the 7-9 and 9-11 minute mile pacing segments who had no intentions of running or jogging - it's kind of dangerous. It was my first organized race, so I didn't know what to expect.

Well, Disney 5ks aren't exactly "organized."
That said, I don't think the situation is really dangerous. There's no official time, and it's not too big a deal to pass people; it's only a 5k, so you're not going to significantly change your distance with the occasional zig-zag. Keep in mind that a lot of people use the run/walk method, so some might be running while other are walking, and vice versa, while still maintaining the same pace overall.
With all running, unless you're there to be the first one to finish, just keep a laid back attitude and appreciate the fun.
I'm really going to miss this 'cold' weather (for Florida). I ran a 14-miler this weekend when it was about 40-45 degrees and ran my fasted 13.1 ever and my 14 miles was only a couple of minutes slower than my fastest race timed half marathon! I have a half this coming Sunday and the highs are back in the 70s. While I LOVE 70s for an every day temperature, it's not great for running in. Oh well, I guess it could be worse and be in the teens. Just wanted to rant, haha.
Anyone got any exciting races coming up?? I have quite a few between now and the end of March, but nothing past that.. yet!
I sure hope so! I haven't gotten into the really long training runs yet (14 is my longest so far), so we'll see...
I've heard differing opinions, but supposedly the last month or so should be a taper.
It's a shame the weather isn't holding out! 60 would seem great for having to tackle a 22-miler, but then it had to go get all warm again.
Unrelated question: anyone ever tried running with a bone bruise on your shin? It's past the sort of dull achiness, but I'm still reluctant to test it.
