"Is this a good price for X?" Thread

With vinylmations getting older in age, it can be difficult to assess what a good price is for a particular vinyl. The best way to determine a good price is for people to search under completed listings on ebay. This setting will list all the items that have ended under your search criteria over the past 2 weeks. It shows things that have sold and which things that haven't and for which price.
However, completed listings do not help if something has not been for sale for a while (Safari Mickey,Wall-e, Shag). The biggest danger in these circumstances is for people to see a Buy It Now and trust that this is a good price. I made a few mistakes this way and I'm sure many others have well.
So it an effort for all of us to help each other out, I thought this thread would be a good way for members to seek out advice on possible purchases from some of the more ebay-watching/obsessed collectors out there. So in summary, if you are contemplating a purchase and you're not sure if it is a good price.....

    1. Check completed listings (this will work most of the time). But if it doesn't....

    2. Ask here.

Hopefully we can all help each other!

This is a great idea... We're also working on the vinyl wiki website that will provide average prices based on here and ebay, but that's going to take a while, so far we only have park 1.

Sounds like a good idea. I may be the first to inquire. I just purchased a Jafar chaser for $40 shipped last week because I just had to have it. Did I get ripped off, was it an average price, or did I get a good deal?

    Thanks in advance.

That's a tough one because while it is a chaser it is still fairly new with the posibility of blind boxing it for 1/4 the price but again, it is also a chaser. Something someone once told me "the value of an item depends on you and how much it means to you". Now having said that, I personally would never spend more than lets say $20-$30 for a new chaser- such as Jafar even if he is my favorite villain. I think $40 is a decent price but I wouldn't have done it but once again I want to stress that's just me and not saying it was stupid to do

In terms of the market for jafar, I'd say you got a fair deal. You didn't get ripped off

I saw them at the Disney Store in Glendale CA last weekend. $10.
I have to keep reminding my dog that these things are not chew toys.

OK everyone, I just started last Friday and I LOVE the Nightmare series. Our Disney Store said they were sold out of Oogie and Pumpkin King but they had everyone else. What's a "good" price for these figures? Thanks for the help!

Oogie can be pretty easily found at other locations and Pumpkin king will be hard to come by. I don't think Pumpkin King is going for much of a premium though as he was tehnically the "chaser" of the series.

Found a few interesting items on a local auction website... Prices seem fair to me, but I'm still hesitant. What do you all think?
    - Park 3 9" Fantasyland trash can: 40 USD
    - Park 3 9" Magic Shop Main Street: 40 USD
    - Park 6 3" complete set of 11 but without chaser: 80 USD
    - Park 3 3" complete set of 12 with chaser: 95 USD

Again, this is a local auction, so the fact that Vinyls are more difficult to acquire in Europe should also count a bit. Thanks everyone, looking forward to your advice!

Go check out your local disney store. I still see them in my area (San Jose, CA). I'd call around first.

I just wanted to add for emphasis - PLEASE use the Completed Listings search feature on eBay before coming here and asking people to give you a good price point. It's an extremely easy way to analyze what the Vinylmation you are looking to buy has been selling for recently, unless it's a more rare one, like menserman pointed out.

Also, please do not come here to ask what you should be listing your Vinylmation for on eBay. This should be for BUYING only - we're not here to help you sell your Vinyls on eBay.

    Thanks for your cooperation everyone

The completed listings on eBay are great; it allows me to see who spent more on a vm than I did, making myself feel great. And then there's always the one where I look and say..."I could have had it for that price??" A great feature nonetheless.

Back to Jafar, I think $40 is a great price, it's going for more than that even on here when people have been selling it.

Out of curiosity... does the lack of an artist card make or break anyones' decision to bid on an auction, or severely reduce the amount you are willing to bid???

I have noticed that artist cards seem to be of importance to hardcore collectors. Having the artist card "completes" the vm, so to speak. Normally I wouldn't have given the artist cards another thought, but I now rather have them in the off chance I want to trade at a better value than not having the card.

I will not bid on an item on eBay without a card (unless it's an unbeatable price), nor will I trade with someone on the boards if they don't have the card. The reason for that is I feel like the artist card completes the vinyl (like DeBergkamp said) and if I have the vinyl, I must have the card with it as well. The only time this doesn't apply for me is trading at the parks, because I obviously know that the trading boxes do not have cards in them. Luckily, I have been able to acquire most of my missing artist cards from people on here, but am still on the hunt for a few more!!

i prefer to have the card, but if it's a vinyl that i really, really want or a good price, i will take it without the card.

Breaks mine. If there's no card, I don't want it. I do search for the card only if an auction is missing it, but if no cards are listed, I'll pass on the auction.
