As predicted, Obi Wan Ghost Chasers starting to drop in price

Well, it looks like the craziness is starting to wear off with regard to the eBay selling of Star Wars Obi Wan Ghost Chasers. This past week a number of units sold in the low $200 range and most of the vendors starting bidding at $245 and up never got any bids and watched their auctions close without a sale. That's great news considering the release date wasn't even a full month ago.

And to think, Star Wars hasn't even been opened up for sale on DisneyStore.com, and I expect we'll see these cases available in that store for quite some time (think Muppets).

If we're seeing recent sales of the chaser at $200 or so, how long before we see it drop to the sweet spot? And what does everyone think the sweet spot will be? $100? $125?

If you're a re-seller, I would not recommend holding on to these for long. The days of selling one for $400 (or even $300) should be over, unless someone just makes a mistake and buys without researching. I'm going to wait one more month and then consider buying one. I'd like to hear the thoughts of others on this issue. I'm a little new to collecting Vinyls. I've made some mistakes along the way, but I've also gotten lucky with timing as well. Bought Balloon Chaser for $300 last year, and that seems to still be the going rate. But I also bought Wall-E/Eve for $300 and now there are some to be had for a lot less. Oh well, at least I have a set ;)

I honestly can't guess what the sweet spot might be, but if it settles around $100, I would pay that for the Ghost chaser. I'm glad these are dropping in price - I think people are starting to realize they aren't as rare as they thought they were.

Even at 1/96 boxes, there are probably still WAY WAY more Super Chasers Ghost Obi Wans in circulation than any of the Park 1's. The super chaser name will only get this piece so far--I'd bet it'll be selling for $80 in about 1 month. Quote me!

I'm guessing that they'll settle eventually to around 125. Who knows how many have been released but I guess we will see?

Since I haven't had any luck blind boxing a Ghost Obi...with the price dropping...it might be possible to purchase one soon.

I would definitely pay $100 for one. Only since I have the rest of the series including the regular chaser from blind boxing and what are the chances of me blind boxing the ghost chaser on 10 boxes? I'd rather just take the sure thing lol

$100 sounds about right for one. It's funny though, are most people wanting to buy one because it is a "super chaser" or because of the design? What if the regular Obi-Wan happened to be the super chaser and vice versa?

Well I would want both no matter what. I have the regular and he is awesome, but the ghost one is just cooler in my opinion. I mean I collected most of the animation series too, but I didn't care if I got all 4 of the variant chasers there. I mean whats the difference between a dark pink and a light pink elephant lol. But I guess depends on the collector.

I'd be willing to pay around $75 - $100 on a super chaser, but even that sounds high. I'm glad the price is finally coming down...if we could all just hold out longer, maybe the price would come down lower, lol. The only reason I want this one is to complete the set...in a way, you can say I'm a completist. I'm only missing the dark solid elephant from the Animation series. I'm willing to wait this one out though.

It's a bit of both for me. I think the design is super cool (I like it more than the regular Obi-Wan) but if it wasn't a "super chaser" I'd probably only pay about $50 for it.

My guess is that the initial "scare" of how rare these actually were came from how few were seen at the Florida release. When I was got mine signed at the California release, the artist said he only signed 1 in Florida, but had already signed 10 before mine (I was probably the 60th or so person in line). Whatever the cause of the "scare" was, I'm definitely interested in seeing just how rare these little guys are.

I think the lowest it will drop to will be somewhere between $100-$200. I say this because while it is still a super chaser it is still being circulated but still rare enough to be valuable. I saw a Pongo on ebay a few weeks go for $145 which are no longer in circulation but I can't see the Ghost going for higher than that. My logic may not make much sense in writing but it made perfect sense in my head.... hahaha

I agree..It would be great to find one for 12.95. Plus you get that excitement of blind boxing it. But like most of you, I also agree the price will probably settle around the 100-125 range. Maybe slightly less. We'll find out soon enough.

While I agree with you finding a regular chaser in a tray is hard enough, think how much you would have to spend to find the super chaser? It may just be worth it to spend the $$ if reasonable

I think the prices will always fluctuate especially if the number of them for sale tends to shrink. Anything around $100 for the ghost would be good in my eyes.

Really? I for one am not paying anything over retail for SW. As a matter of fact I am not even going to pay retail. Just do not like the set that much. BUT.....You are paying for the collectablity of that particular vinyl. It is the rarest of the SW and because of that it is worth a whole lot more.

So If you do blind box the Ghost Obi, would you be willing to sell for $12.95? After all that is what you paid for it

Obi Wan Ghost Chasers going down in price? Some say yes. I say no. What did you pay?

I have to disagree on the price of this one dropping. I have a program that captures the final bid on specific items on ebay. I haven't seen an auction finish for less than $275. The lowest buy it now on ebay is $300. I think I should just buy that one to be safe. There are only 9 Ghost Chasers on ebay right now. I want to make sure I complete that set!

No offense, but I suggest you get another program because the one you have is busted. It's easy to see what the going rate is for a product on eBay is because all you have to do is check Completed Listings from the Advanced search area. Before I made this post, for the week prior very few Ghost Chasers went for more than $250. And most auctions set at $245 or above were ending without bids. Buy It Now pricing is not a good reference point. There are four eBay sellers offering Wall-E/Eve for more than $1,000, but they SELL for around $250. I bought mine for $300 six months ago, and these are limited to just 500. I should have waited, but I panicked thinking I would never have another opportunity to get it so cheap.

If someone NEEDS to have a Ghost Chaser right now, they can bid for one and get it for around $200-220 - If anyone pays more than that and it's not signed by the artist, then they wasted their money. And you can bet the price will continue to drop. Not sure why so many panic about these things. Remember the Snowman/Snowglobe combo? People lost their minds and bought them for $100 and up the day after they were released, then the figures showed back up for several more weeks at $45 on DisneyStore.com. And those were limited - Star Wars is not. Lucas and Disney want to make as much as they can off this little partnership. Expect a Muppets-like run of these on DS.com at some point. And the more cases that sell, the more Super Chasers will be available. It's simple math. Sooner or later, I expect anyone will be able to buy a Super Chaser for under $100. Well, at least that's my sweet spot to buy. I don't see this chaser as more significant than the Gold Chaser, Cinderella 60th or News Bureau Tinkerbell and those are all still available in the low $100 range. Sooner or later, common sense and the numbers on these things will right itself. After blowing way too much in panic on these things, I've learned to settle down and wait it out.

It's funny you mention the 'worth' of this chaser based on other popular chaser pricing. I had given similar reasoning in this same thread mentioning the current selling prices for Gold Chaser, Cinderella 60th and News Bureau Tinkerbell. These are all Holy Grail type figures depending on who you talk to, yet they all have been selling in the low $100 range. So my perspective is that this Super Chaser should be at or below those figures in average worth. And in no way should a super chaser from a recent series be selling for more than the Balloon Chaser, for goodness sakes. Balloons have been sold out forever, yet even they are dropping in price. I bought my first for $300. I recently bought another for $285 and traded it for Pooh-Piglet, which is also dropping under $300 now.

I think as more of these cases are sold, the numbers will grow on availability and quickly surpass the availability of Pongo, Gold Chaser, etc. People will start to establish 'worth' to this figure just as the worth of Balloon, Gold and Pongo has rested nicely and is actually falling somewhat. So, my guess is $100-120 for the Ghost Chaser with the occasional winning bid dropping under $100. Once I see the first one drop below $100, that's when I will jump. And if people want to start to see these drop quicker, then stop indulging the eBay re-sellers by taking their inflated Buy It Now offers.

I'm one of the few that think the ghost variant will never fall below $150. I predict it will hold steady between $150-200. Besides park 1, I think Star Wars series 1 is the second most popular vinylmation series of all time. In most cases, the first series release is usually the most popular and with this figure being the most wanted, I don't see demand fading.

Lastly, please take this with a grain of salt, but I heard rumors that they are now seeding the super chaser in cases at a lower rate than when first released. Anyone hear the same?
