Disney Cruise Line Wonder - Alaska Adventures Update :)

For the first time ever, Disney Cruise Line is sailing to the great state of Alaska this summer for seven-night cruises! We couldn’t be more excited to embark on new experiences that will delight guests with natural wonders and spectacular scenery. During these itineraries, the Disney Wonder will visit three scenic Alaskan ports – Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. And the best way to take in all the sights these ports have to offer is by adding on some of the exciting Port Adventures we have planned.

These deluxe adventures ashore were designed in conjunction with local tour operators to showcase the rich history and culture of Alaska while also incorporating distinctly Disney touches. In fact, one Port Adventure includes a scavenger hunt in Skagway through the Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp, coupled with a gold-panning expedition where Donald Duck may even waddle by to join in the fun!

Also while docked in Ketchikan, you can learn the art of traditional totem carving from a native carver at Totem Bight State Park. Here, children can leave their mark by painting a wooden feather that will be added to a special totem pole exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests.

We also have an extraordinary excursion where you can fly high over the massive Juneau Icefield by helicopter before touring a sled dog camp. This memorable dog-mushing experience concludes with an exhilarating sled trip on a snow-capped glacier. You might even make some new furry friends.

In Skagway, you can board a vintage railroad car for a family-friendly, riveting railroad ride. This journey climbs nearly 3,000 feet to the summit of White Pass, where the picturesque surroundings provide plenty of photo ops. On the return trip down the mountain, children can ride in a private, kids-only car filled with sing-alongs, games and storytelling, while adults can celebrate the fun with a champagne or cider toast. Cheers!

With a range of options designed for all members of the family, some other excursions include trekking the terrain of rugged glaciers, feasting on fresh Alaskan salmon and dropping a line in a derby-style fishing competition.

These are only a small sampling of the fun-filled Port Adventures available to guests of all ages during our Alaska itineraries. And, the great part is – you can spend a day exploring the port of call and return to the comfort, amenities and entertainment aboard the Disney Wonder.

From traveling to Alaska myself, I can tell you this trip is a must! The opportunities to marvel at the breathtaking landscapes, get a glimpse of rare wildlife and explore the heritage of America’s 49th state are endless and make for an unforgettable family vacation.

We hope to see you in Alaska this summer…

My parents are thinking of doing this cruise next year if available and our points are enough (we use our DVC points instead of money). It's either this cruise or flying to California and doing San Fran and drive the coast and stop off at DLR

Points are DEFINITELY the way to go especially for a family. I went on a Disney Cruise a few years ago with my friend and her family and I paid about $1,000 just for myself. It also helps that we have extra points to spend

I will be sailing on the Wonder to Alaska mid-August. I would be happy to report back on which series of vinyls I see onboard if that would be helpful!

We went on a 7 day Mexican cruise on board the Disney Wonder late March/early April of this year. There is one mystery trading box (24) and a clear box at Mickey's Mate (gift shop). I think trading is going to depend on whether or not you have other vinyl traders on board. We went to the store at least twice each day - and the box was "so-so" - but my kids were excited to trade...the younger ones didn't really care what they got. The CMs were wonderful. They would ask what we were looking for...and gave us unlimited guesses. The box did not change much throughout the cruise. But my oldest managed to land Candy Apple from Cutesters 2 and a Hula Minnie....made her trip. Vinyls on sale were limited, they had Cutesters Too, Holiday 2, Have a Laugh, Toy Story, Park 5, CYO, and Big Eyes (I think...not sure about this one). There were only a few boxes in each tray.....and it did not look like many were sold. From my observation, Pin Trading is much more popular. Look out for the Port Hole Pins....we hunted throughout our trip for them. Finally gave in and bought some to have a complete set for each of our three kids (a couple of extras for mommy). Hope this helps...but remember....your Alaska Cruise will not take place for another few months....so hopefully, they will have more in stock for your trip.

That is great intel! Than you Ranaong!

I have been playing with the idea of buying one vinyl just to trade as many times as I can, and getting as many different designs as possible. Kind of a love it for a day and let it go idea. This sailing might be a good chance to kick that off.

I agree....this would be the place to do it. The CM's were great and did not limit the number of trades per day....at least not for our cruise. I really loved hanging out there...and like you, my daughter would think she found her all time favorite vinyl one day and the next...she was tired of it and would trade it away. I brought 12 traders did not trade all of them. Like I mentioned, on our cruise, vinyl trading was not very popular. I was hoping to bump into another trader....and trade away some of my "more sought out vinyls". But the CM informed us...we were the only family "really" vinyl trading. The CM's tried their best to make trading a fun experience for my kids. They even took the box into the back to move things around and switch things out. Regardless, you are going to have a great time on the cruise. And if you have little ones like I do (8 year old and twin 3 year olds) they are packed with activities for all ages. The swimming pool was a hit for our kids. You never know...our last Alaskan Cruise (Princess not Disney) two years ago...when we were at Glacier Bay...it was so hot my daughter swam in the outdoor pool the entire time we were there.

I am excited to hear you had such a great experience! I don't have kids, but this will be our third cruise with DCL and my first time to Alaska. Vinyl trading will just be icing on the cake. But if I can come home with a Castaway Cay Exclusive, I will Be extra thrilled!

I have a friend going on an Alaskan cruise who probably doesn't even know what a Vinylmation is, and I was wondering if there is an excusive cruise line Vinylmation on the ship that I could ask her to pick up. I don't necessarily mean an Alaska themed one, but just a general cruise line one. I know they have them on Castaway Cay, but obviously the boat won't be stopping there on the way to Alaska!

As I understand it, the answer is no. There was an inaugural Alaska criuse exclusive that sold out the day it was released. There was a Castaway Club Exclusive that I understand has been sold out for some time now. That said, it can't hurt for her to look and check.

one of the cool things about the alaska cruise is that you will see orca's (killer whale) swimming along side the ship at times. Lots of dolphins too! Have fun!
