    Hunger Games Trilogy

Just wondering if anyone else has read the series and figured it was a good idea to have a thread about it with the movie that'll be out eventually.

If you haven't, go out and buy it NOW!! It's amazing. And don't let the fact that Borders/Walenbooks puts it in children books, because it definitely is not.

I loved the first book can't wait to get the second one!
    Don't tell me what happens!
All my friends that have read it read it over and over again now.
It's funny watching them do it but i guess the books are really good.
Love the series so far the movie for it would be interesting.
    and very bloody

Ahh you gotta get the other two! I bought the first one and then as soon as I finished I HAD to go out and get the other two.

It really will be. which is why I don't understand how bookstores think it's a good idea to put it under the "great for kids" section They've obviously never read the series

My brother has talked a lot about this series and I keep hearing it come up more and more elsewhere. Might have to give it a shot.

Read it!! Read it!! I put it off the first few times I heard it because....well I don't really know. I was obviously out of my mind.

    It's amazing!

Just finished The Hunger Games, and I was highly impressed. Suzanne Collins managed to create a world that wasn't just interesting, but actually influenced the characterization instead of just serving as a backdrop. Very well done.

As far as why it's in the children's section -- that's because it's marketed as a book for middle schoolers. And I think most middle schoolers would be okay with it. As long as it's on the same shelves as Harry Potter and not The Berenstein Bears, I'm cool with it.

I read The Hunger Games because I am an aspiring Young Adult Fiction author and a I worked in a literary agency for a semester and had to know what all the hooplah was about. I've gotta admit that the only thing keeping me going through the first book was that I was semi invested in the main character and that I hoped she survived, however no matter how hard I tried (and trust me, I very much so tried, I love my YA sci-fit/paranormal/thriller/horror/fantasy-fiction) but I just couldn't get close to her like I've gotten to Rose of the Vampire Academy series, or even the characters in Bram Stoker's Dracula). I loved that Katniss was strong and kick-ass and all, but I wish they had stopped at one book, because I got through half of the second and couldn't push myself to read it ... and let's face it, I read Twilight, and after studying writing for 4 years, those books had SOOOOOOOOO many pencil/pen markings and corrections in them that I couldn't even sell them on eBAy. But I am VERY excited to see how the movie of The Hunger Games turns out, simply because I love to see how they are envisioned by the creators. While I very much so don't agree with all the of the castngs, I'm hoping that the actors can be true to the characters, which is something many writers hope for when their books are turned into movies.

Hopefully one day we'll be discussing my teen novel that's being made into a movie!

Awww that's a shame you couldn't finish. Although I do agree since the 2nd book is probably the weakest of the 3 and Mockingjay has it's drawbacks, but I still love the whole series.

I'm excited about the movie. I agree with most of the casting (except Cinna ) and even the one I wasn't okay with (Gale) I've taken that back once I saw the on set photos.

Off topic, I VA too as well as her other series. Can't wait for the VA spin-off series.

I worked for Richelle's literary agent for a semester and I got to mail her all her foreign books and royalties. I also got to say hi to her on the phone! Nicest author ever she's so so so so sooooooo sweet!

Back to HG--I don't agree with Cinna at all, simply bc I don't think that Lenny Kravitz is a good actor; and to be honest when I was reading the book, I totally saw Christian Siriano from Project Runway as Cinna, so Lenny was kinda a giant disappointment :\

Actually, I think Lenny Kravtiz as Cinna is a better choice than Woody Harrelson as Haymitch...

    Jealous!

I don't know who I was imagining, but definitely not him. I'm happy with the casting for President Snow though

Check them out, you know you want to check them out *hypnotizes*

It's set in a world where society as we know it is gone, in it's place are 12 districts ruled by the Capitol. As punishment for a past rebellion, the Capitol created the Hunger Games. Each year one girl and one boy are chosen from each district to play in the Games. Any child 12-18 can be chosen. In the games, they're forced to kill each other and outsmart various deadly obstacles created by the Gamemakers, while everyone in the districts are forced to watch.

The story is surrounding Katniss, the District 12 tribute as she goes through the games after offering to take her sisters place.

BEST. SERIES. EVER. I cried about 100 times throughout the trilogy and I'm soo excited for the movie. Jennifer Lawrence will make a great Katniss, IMO and Josh Hutcherson for Peeta is a good choice. I approve of those two, but Cinna... no. Lenny Kravitz... I just can't.

I finished reading the series last week (it took me all of 5 days can you tell I was addicted?) and I loooooooved it! I really like when I read a series before I see the movie, just because the movies put so many pre-conceived notions in my head (which is why I won't go back and read Twilight now that I've seen the movies. I missed that boat!)

I'm really excited for the movies, just to see what they do with them. I truly loved the books though. I didn't want them to end!

I like all the other casting and think they're great...but yea...Cinna's casting is horrible. Just horrible! I'd like to know what they were thinking!

Yeah.. Lenny Kravitz as Cinna.. I was taken aback by that too. I actually could have seen Stanley Tucci in that role (kind of Devil Wears Prada-esque) if he wasn't already cast as Caesar!

I guess maybe they chose Lenny because he can pull off eccentric and flamboyant, but also has a very masculine look to him? I guess I can see Cinna that way.

It's great that you bought all 3 at the same time. That way you don't have to wait. I bought the first one and finished it in a night and had to run out to get the next one the next day.

That always happens to me! I have learned my lesson- just buy all the books at the same time (if it's a short series or trilogy) because chances are I'll end up wanting to read the rest Plus, I had a gift card and since Borders is going out of business the books were 20% off. Win-win situation (well, except for the fact that my beloved Borders is going out business )

You're better than I. I buy one at a time...it doesn't seem as much that way.

Oh I know I've been to waldenbooks twice since it was announced they're all closing to buy books and I'm sure I'll be there a few more times since mine still has A LOT of books

Is it still called Waldenbooks by you?! I miss Waldenbooks! I know Borders bought them out but it just didn't have the same feel. Although, Borders is still better than Barnes & Noble, but I guess I won't have much choice in the matter anymore as to where I get my brand new books. We do have some great thrift stores around here that have massive selections of books so I get a lot that way.

I've recently had to make the switch to e-books (that's how I read The Hunger Games trilogy) for space reasons. We just don't have the room to store our books anymore - I don't even want to think about how many we have displayed and how many more are in a box somewhere. Plus, I like that I can read the e-book on my computer during my lunchtime at work and then pick right back up on it on my laptop or iPad when I get home. Yes, I know I can do that with a book, too, but this is just as convenient and I don't have to worry about ruining my book (I'm kind of OCD about keeping my books in nice condition ) Plus, I can bring a bunch of books with me anywhere I go in case I finish my book and want to start on something else. I still love reading normal books, though. It was definitely a little strange when I first made the switch.

I'm envious of the people who have made the switch! My boyfriend bought me a Sony E-Reader last year for my birthday and I still haven't actually used it. I tried once and really couldn't stand the flatness/thinness of the reader compared to my books... cause somehow barely being able to lug around a hardback is so much better
