    Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Well, Sledge was kind enough to provide us with this forum, so I guess we should use it, right?

Has anyone else read the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan? A co-worker of mine suggested I give it a try back in May, and I'd burned through the entire five-book series in a little less than a month (which is pretty fast for a teacher reading during the end of school chaos).

The series is about a young boy who discovers the Greek Gods are still alive in the 21st century, still running around having kids with mortals, and that he's one of them. He's taken off to a summer camp with other "Half-Bloods" (half mortal, half god), and uncovers a nefarious plot by an ancient evil.

I really loved these books. It's the best YA series to hit since Harry Potter, and will appeal heavily to anyone who enjoyed those books as well. I got HT to give them a try this summer and she's enjoying them as well. I believe she's on the fourth book now.

    Anyone else?

It's amazing how Rick Riordan fits the Greek Mythology into today's world, and the humor and relationship between all of the characters is very well-done.

You can find the first teaser trailer online, too. It's opening in February:

Ok, I still don't see how they're going to get away with Percy starting off that old seeing as the prophecy is specific about him turning 16. How're they going to fit everything in when he's obviously so close to 16 already?

Hmmm.....maybe we should mark this thread as "spoiler filled?"

Sorry for the double post, but I'm currently reading book five and wanted to make some predictions (nobody tell me if I'm right or wrong, BLAKE!): I think 1- Beckendorf is not dead as everybody thinks. If Kronos was able to get off the Princess Andromeda, then why not him? Kronos coul possibly have saved him to use it against the Gods and Demi-gods. 2- I think Selina is the spy in the camp. This might be why she's so heart-broken over Beckendorf's death...maybe she's feeling guilty?

Ok, I was wrong about Beckendorf for sure. I just got the part where Nico says he talked to his ghost. I guess it's hard to argue with the son of Hades as to whether or not someone's dead.

And now I'm think Hestia might be the spy. She's able to get into the camp very easily through the hearth and even she's said that most people pass by her without a thought. Maybe she's angry about being left out of the Gods?

Okay, I went to bed last night with the intention of reading a chapter, but it got so good that I ended up staying up past 1 AM and finished the last book of the series. I really, really enjoyed this series and I wish there were more books. I love how the majority of book 5 was the battle. GREAT SERIES! I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy, Greek Mythology, Harry Potter (not that it's anything like HP, but it's the same "feel"). Blake, thanks for getting me into these books! I'll return your copies soon, and I will be purchasing my own set because this is definitely a series I will re-read over and over!

EVERYBODY GO OUT AND READ THE PERCY JACKSON SERIES!!!!!!

Looks so interesting. My hubs read all the books now, just finished the newest one and he is psyched to see it, says the kid looks like a good fit for Percy.

Yeah, I agree. My only problem is that he's a little too old. In the first book, he's only suppose to be like 12 or 13; and there's this whole prophecy thing that's specific to his 16th birthday which drags out to book 5. I guess, they're going to change the age in the prophecy?

So, IDK if any of you have seen it; but there is a new (longer) trailer out now. I saw it yesterday before New Moon! It's looking really good, except none of the main characters are at all what I pictured when reading the books. Annabeth is suppose to be blond. Would it have really been that difficult to dye the chick's hair?

I bought The Demi God Files a while back, but hadn't had a chance to start reading it until yesterday when I finished a different book and now have to wait to go get the next one in that series. Anyway, It's really cool how it's laid out. It's got a few short stories from the camp in there and pictures of some of the characters as well as inerviews with some of the characters and a forward/warning by Rick Riordan Senior Scribe, Camp Half-Blood. It's also got a few cross-word puzzles. I'm kind of diggin' it.

It kind of reminds me of the Beadle and Bard book that JKR put out, but this one invovles the series' main characters.
