Ironically, when these were first released I kind of thought they were silly. Yeah, well......payback I guess. I've managed to get her interested in some of the figures. She likes all of the second series of Juniors because they're Disney characters and, she likes most of the third series of Juniors. She thinks the keychains are cute....has about eight of them probably now spread out on three or four different purses.
My wife got me started on collecting them. When I first saw them, I thought they were kind of ugly. Then I saw the Villains, and I started liking a few of them. Once I started really looking at them, I started seeing the beauty and fun in them, and I am now hooked.
I am only gently hooked, though - I only want to acquire full sets of the series I like, and am not compelled to get evey VM from every series...
We shall see what happens once I begin trading!
My wife really wanted a few of the Gift from Cutesters Too, so I bought a few mystery boxes. I bought five boxes, we got two Gifts (what incredible luck!!!), a clear yellow Soap Bubbles, a Smores, and a Rain. The longer I stared at Smores trying to figure out what it was, the cuter it got. She decided she wants to keep the clear yellow too, so my original plan to trade off the THREE CTs for something I wanted is now to trade off the TWO CTs... If I stare at Smores too much more, I may decide to buy a tray of the darn things..."Don't look, don't look"
The other day my wife asked if I was about done. I have spent waaaay to much since January on them. Deep down I even know it and have changed my mindset. I will now only seek full park sets and the occasional other ones I specifically want.

My boyfriend is on the fence when it comes to me collecting. He says he just likes to open the blind boxes for me since that's the most exciting part, but he hates it when I try to talk to him about anything that has to do with vinyls because "he doesn't care". I bet he's just in denial. He'll come around eventually! ;)

My wife was the first one to "get into it"... but it turns out that she was just excited by opening blind boxes. I took the liberty in helping her complete sets through trades and purchases, etc. Then I saw some that I liked. Now I'm more the collector and she just hears about my day surfing the forums. She tells me which ones she wants and asks me to find them for her LOL. If you asked her this question, she'd say "I created a monster". HAHA

Wife and I started collecting at the same time. Altough our tastes are different. She like Cutesters and I like the characters from the actual cartoons.

He got lucky... I fell in love with them at the same time that he did. But I have an addiction to all things Mickey Mouse, so it wasn't hard for me to be convinced.
This is more a question of how I reacted.
After we bought the first on at WDW, my wife kept going down to the gift shop in the Contemporary to get "just one more." I eventually had to convince her to back off a bit in case there was something else she wanted to bring home from the trip. We ended up coming home with about 30 of them acquired through purchases and trades.
Now I'm the one joining a message board, keeping my ebay watch list full of different vinyls, and attempting to keep in the loop about release dates and such.
She now teases me. Quite the reversal.

I like to call my DH an enabler! This is really my hobby, but he's always like oh hey did you see this? And today I found him in the Disney Store looking at the Vinyls before I got there!
I have had a similar Disney store experience too many times haha. My boyfriend started collecting first. He lovesssss Disney, and I saw his collection and laughed my a** off. Then we went to the parks together and I saw him trading at the stores and so I bought 2 to trade with just for fun and the first one I pulled was a chaser. I was hooked from that point on haha. I have really good luck, so I get a lot of good ones, and we get a little competitive about it, but we plan to combine our collections someday.
My wife thinks I'm nuts for collecting these but doesn't care that I buy them so long as I don't rack up bills. She's just glad I'm not putting more $$ into my mountain bike. Plus we have a 4 month old daughter who I am sure will love these as she gets older (thats when the lock goes on the case
Boyfriend wasn't really thrilled with the idea of buying a vinyl for $10 and not knowing which one you'd get but I really wanted to give it a try so I bought one. Opened it up and it was Old Hag. He thought it was just ok, but I wanted to try again. Got lots of Stromboli's () and around this time my boyfriend is exasperated.
He kept insisting that he didn't like them and could my addiction getting really expensive. I had a feeling that he actually did like them, but just wouldn't admit it. A few times I caught him looking on ebay at vinyl and pointing out good prices on them. Then he started saying "I really want to get that pumpkin mickey (from HAL)" and then when he blind boxed the chaser from Muppets 2 I knew he was hookedhe still won't admit it though!
Now that I'm going to Disney in August with my mom he's been talking about me trading and he's currently on the hunt for paint drip mickey for me. He also wants me to "keep an eye out" for evil dr porkchop (which means he wants me to buy some more toy story to try to get it lol)
My boyfriend is a really good sport about it. He comes along to releases and what not if he can. His friend is into them now though so he's become the useful sources of information through me
