    Aquatica Expansion

    Quote Originally Posted by Screamscape

We had first heard these rumors at the opening or the park itself as a reaction to just how crowded and well received the park was. The rough idea then was to add anywhere from 2-4 new major attractions into the park, though the exact nature of the attractions in question was unknown, though apparently there were some good idea for the park cut from the original budget and left aside as possible Phase 2 additions. Anyone know more?

(2/3/09) We’ve heard a bit more about the Aquatica expansion and a couple of possible new attractions being designed. One plan is to add 3 or 4 new slides to the Whanau Way tower, loading them from the platform just before the main loading platform, along with a new splashdown pool. Another plan placed in the same general area would see a powered waterslide with uphill sections, similar to what you get on Disney’s Crush N’ Gusher slides, but this slide may take guests through some animal themed areas like a Flamingo exhibit (eeeww…stinky!) or a Tortise Pond. The later concept seems earmarked for 2010 at the earliest while the former could be added to the park before the end of the year if approved. I guess it depends on if they want to build one or both of these and how much they want to spend on expansion right now.

(2/4/09) The latest word on the Aquatica expansion is that there was a new attraction once planned for 2009, but it has been put on hold until 2010 now. We’ve also been told that permits have been submitted to the city and approved already, so look for construction to start sometime later this year.
I love the Crush n Gusher, but it is way too short. Another ride of this type would be great to have in Orlando. The idea of taking another slide through animal exhibits is also a neat one.

Who knows. Didn't stop them from doing it with the Dolphins. I heard you can't see anything.

It's really tough to see the dolphins on dolphin plunge as you blur by them. If they happen to be right next to the tube you can see a black and white blur but that's about it. I would love an Aquatica expansion, we added that park to our Sea World season passes and go there every couple weeks or so. It does get pretty crowded during peak times though so more stuff to do and more room would be fantastic!

This has become my fav waterpark, easily overtaking Typhoon Lagoon. They've got the atmosphere just right whilst giving you lots to do too. I'd love to see them expand Aquatica, but as said above the animal-interactive parts of the flumes could do with being a bit more lengthy.

We didn't go to Aquatica, but I think I might insist next time.

I'm thinking of doing a 6 week tour of America starting on the west coast moving to the east. Might have to make it an 8-10 week tour though. Have to see if work will allow it!

Cool! I'd love to do the West Coast we've looked at it for years but never quite get round to doing it. As soon as we get some cash together we go what the hey and book Orlando instead. One day...

The wife and I hit up Aquatica everytime we go to Disney, which is quite often. We never get tired of the place, so an expansion would be icing on an already delicious cake!
