I think a theme park is a ways off right now, but I am pretty sure it will be in the works for sure, they way they do things, it would actually be successful too.

Oh, Something I wanted to add also, not sure how much a fan "John Lasseter" is of Marvel Comics...but where he is really pushing the Pixar themes within all the parks, I wouldn't see him wanting to overload the parks anyways with Marvel Comics characters. Just a guess he would probably still push a lot of Pixar stuff...
I hear you on that.
Everytime something big like this happens I like Iger more and more.
This seems to have come at a great time on the digital content front. Sony announced recently there will be a Marvel Comics digital reader available in Dec for the PSP which I'm looking forward to. Sony is releasing the PSP GO in Oct and it's expected to sell well, so come Dec Marvel Comics digital subscriptions in general could see a boost too. Also Marvel is releasing motion comics for just about anything Apple related.
I like how Iger and his people are in tune with what goes on in the tech world, and are constantly adapting to it.

Here's the best, most logical reaction I've yet seen to this news, courtesy of legendary comic book writer Kurt Buisek:
True dat.“I see the fan community already salivating over Pixar X-Men (has Pixar done any adaptations, guys?) or dreading Hannah Montana joining the Avengers. Or hoping that Disney will immediately fire Joe Quesada and reinstate the kind of comics they use to love back when Disney had no interest in Marvel. Or dreading that Disney will wimpify Marvel. Or exulting that now Marvel can be like Vertigo and publish comics that don't make money, because they can spend Disney's money without expecting to make a profit.
“And a lot of other things that don't seem likely, either.
“My reaction: This will change things. Whether it'll change things in a good way, in a bad way or (most likely) in a mixture of both, it'll change things. How? No way to tell yet, so there's not much point in drawing conclusions of any kind.
“I hope we have Roger Langridge ‘Muppet Show’ comics for a long time to come, though.

Here's something to think about...
- Universal Hollywood is getting a Transformers ride that uses the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man technology.
- A roller coaster can easily be painted, new signs thrown up, and the "theme" suddenly changes.
- Storm Force (their equivalent of the Teacups) and Dr. Doom's Fearfall are also themed only by colors, easy to replace signs and queue videos in Dr. Doom's case.
- The entire Marvel Super Hero Island is nothing but colorful buildings and super hero cutouts. Nothing too elaborate.
Universal needs to change out the video and turn Spider-Man into Hollywood's Transformers ride, The Hulk Coaster into a Megatron "theme", and Storm Force and Fearfall into other Transformer rides. The architecture in the land isn't really that far off from Transformers. Such an easy fix to turn Marvel Superhero Island into a Transformers Islands.
Personally, I'd rather them do a land that didn't stick to a single franchise.
I have always been a huge marvel fan. Growing up my dad collected DC and Marvel, but I hated DC comics. DOnt know why. I like JLA and Batman, thats about it. But I have so much marvel stuff, Im extatic about the news.
I think IOA i decent, but I definately get a Six Flags feel to it. Although I dont feel that my Six Flags up here in Chicago is as cheesy as the other parks.

Thats cute HT NSU...Im sure we will start seeing more of it
as the days go by.
Im looking forward to it!

I really don't want to see Marvel characters in ANY of the current parks. Yes, they MAY fit into the New York theme on the Streets of America...but I just don't think it would feel right. Maybe a 5th park would be the way to go...I don't know. But I would rather see them pump money into the current parks while leaving the comic book characters out. Maybe they would even let Marvel continue to license out its characters to other parks. I don't know. But Spiderman or Captain America next to Muppet Vision 3D? That just doesn't work for me.
I feel the same way kind of. I don't think I'll really think of them as Disney characters though when I see them... same as I don't feel like the Power Rangers are. It'll be weird if they do put them out in the parks, but if they really feel like they need to then DHS is the park to do it.

We might not be getting anything Marvel at WDW for a long time. It's rumored that when Universal signed the deal with Marvel part of the agreement was that Marvel could not license their character to any other attraction on the East Coast for a set amount of years. There may be a loophole in the sense that they technically wouldn't be licensing out their characters since they are now Disney. It really all depends how it was agreed upon.

I totally agree. If they really want to bring them in, do it as a seperate park, but they're probably better off just keeping them in Universal. I think both parks need each other. Healty competition is good for business, and either way Disney's going to bring in some revenu from it. They should just let things be.

i was walking towards the backlot tour one time and the power rangers randomly came out on their car.. i just so happened to be standing in a spot where the yellow ranger goes and he/she started to do poses and stuff with me.. it caught me off guard.. i'll hunt for those pictures tomorrow and try to post them up
Omigosh I love the Wolverine Donald and Captain America Mickey.![]()

I don't understand people who say things like "But Spiderman or Captain America next to Muppet Vision 3D? That just doesn't work for me," when the same characters are already doing sets WITH characters like Woody Woodpecker at the park entrance and adjacent to Sunday comic cartoons like Betty Boop and Popeye. DHS already has Rangers, Star Wars, Indy, GMR, and Aerosmith, none of which are Disney related. How is it then that Marvel characters should fit in any less?
I'd love if they gave Marvel the Star Wars weekends treatment. Considering they could pull in actors and comic artists, it could turn out to be one freaking awesome event.
Granted, you aren't at Disney often. But next time you go take a gander at the queue lines for the Rangers and keep an eye on how much Ranger merchandise boys are wearing. I think it'll answer your question.
Okay, having taken the time to work it out in my head, I've made the Disney/Marvel thing the focus of my column at Comixtreme.com this week. I don't often link to my comic stuff here, but if anyone wants to read my thoughts on the whole thing, you can read it here:
Of Mice and Mutants.

Great article, Blake! Although I've been thingking about the whole "keeping their toys in someone else's sandbox" thing, and I'm not so sure that that's not a bad idea. When I first heard of this, I thought: "Awesome, once Universal's contract is up, Disney can swoop right in, take out Marvel and implant them into WDW!" But now that I think about it, and after reading your article, I think it might be better for them to just leave things as is once the contract is up...renew it. Like you said, there are die-hards on both sides of the fence many of which are so fanaticle, they boycott the other park. If Disney renewed the Marvel contract with Universal, they'd be getting profits from both parks. People who fans of Universal and thrill rides are not going to stop going there because Disney owns Marvel, they like the rides and once all of this shock fizzles out, most people will probably forget it ever happened anyway. And I don't think that the Marvel aspect of the parks alone would justify or be cost-effective enough for Disney to move or rebuild everything so close to where it already is. I just don't think it would bring in enough "new" guests who might otherwise stick with Universal. The best thing IMO, is to leave it as is, take in the revenue, bring some Marvel characters to the parks (cause I do agree it with help bring in young males) and if they still want to do a 5th park, make a Disney Villians parks....that's where Disney thrill rides would fit in. ....oh yeah Disney, We're still waiting for the Beastly Kingdom, too!![]()
I am just amazed at how much thought people have put into this. In a world of Business decisions are made. This is a Business decision and a good one on Disney's part. No one knows what anyone is going to do but I don't see Disney changing a working formula. I don't see Disney moving characters out of IOA and bringing them to Disney.
They might do some things that fanboys may not like but I guess maybe they should have had 4 billion dollars to spend.
Scarletwebslingr (09-03-2009)

No one is suggesting otherwise. I think we're all pretty much in agreement that it was a good move on Disney's part.
I think we've also all agreed that no one knows what's going to happen, but there's no harm in us discussing or speculating the possibilities. I haven't heard any kind of uproar or angry mobs coming out about this. I for one really couldn't care less what happens to Marvel in the grand scheme of things. I'm not a huge comic book or superhero fan, but I think it's worth discuss because it is big news; and I think the only reason it's getting such big press is because of 1- the $$$$ amount Marvel was aquired for, 2- The fact that it came out of nowhere and 3- because the fans on both sides of the table are making it a huge deal. IMO.
Just saying...no harm in duscussing the possibilities.![]()
