Not sure whether it’s a case of back to the future or forward to the past or the past meets the present, but: a long-running Tomorrowland attraction is getting a new (well, sort of new) name …
As of today, Tomorrowland Transit Authority, the “super skyway” that allows guests a glimpse of a variety of attractions in Tomorrowland of Magic Kingdom, will be renamed Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover.
The ride opened in 1975 as the WEDway PeopleMover. It has been called Tomorrowland Transit Authority since 1994.
The ride technology, which uses pollution-free linear induction motors, was developed by WED Enterprises (that’s what Disney Imagineering was called back in the day) and was introduced at Disneyland in California in 1967. While the attraction at Disneyland has long been closed, there is a place other than Walt Disney World Resort where guests can experience an application of the WED technology. Any guesses as to where?

The best news all week is that "PAGING Mr. Morrow, Tom Morrow" has returned as well. My friend heard it last week when she rode it.

Awesome! It took me so long to get used to calling it the TTA instead of the PeopleMover. Not that TTA was bad, but now I won't be incorrect if I slip and call it the PeopleMover.

Oh that's great news. The WEDPeople Mover is one of my favorite rides, but when they changed the commentary, it really sucked. I was quite disappointed, but now I can't wait to go on it again in December.

I loved the voice of the guy who did the previous TTA spiel. This current spiel sounds like a Disney Channel voice over. But at least we will get the People Mover name and the "Tom Morrow" voice over!!

I don't really get the point of changing the name (not that I mind) but if they wanted to change something make it that terrible new audio.

:agree: Now it's just like "look there is that and that". Seriously? Most people riding it already know what everything is.

I miss the DL People Mover. The empty track looks so lonely. I hope they bring it back one day.

I like the name change, but I agree the thing they need to change the most is that new narration. I like the old one better!

I didn't click the link, but I think the answer is Morgantown, WV (home of WVU) has a peoplemover.

Can't wait until my Christmas trip.:happy:I remember when this was called the WEDway people mover (that's going back a few years). The forward facing tentacles line and paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow are some of my favorite lines and I hope they have been brought back along with many of the old ones. Many of you are saying that the narration is a do-over. Hopefully, it won't be too annoying. :cross:

The greatest part about our Christmas trip mom, is we can drag Dad onto it multiple times. Its not a WDW trip without two rides on the WEDway people mover.

I heard about this the other day. Great news! I'm not sure that I ever stopped calling it the PeopleMover. I wish they'd bring the last spiel back, though.

My parents have always called it the PeoplMover, so this just seems right to me :)
Anyway, the Paging Tom Morrow message has been moved into the dark area by Stitch, the first one. Also, it's slightly different from the old one, but I'll leave that as a surprise for anyone who still needs to ride it.

When I rode it yesterday, the Tom Morrow line was inside Space Mountain, just past the shuttle / hill climb area. I wonder if they're still trying to figure out where to put it back in... Boy, I do miss the old spiel though!

Took them long enough to actually call it the PeopleMover. I don't think I had ever called it the TTA, and people would often get confused when I called it that.

For me it was the opposite. I'd always call it the WEDway people mover and no one knew what I was talking about.

My husband and I go on the people mover every time we go to disney which is a few hundred times a year. We never did call it by the other name , to us it has always been wedway people mover and always will be for as long as they have the ride.

The empty track at DL reminds me of the empty house in WDW where the sky ride used to pass through, now its just a house with a giant hole in it
I LOVE THE TTA/People Mover! i force my family to ride it every time we r there, its a nice rest stop to re organize my pins lol

I can't stand it when people scream and act like fools for no reason. If you want to scream and act like you are on Rock N Roller Coaster then you should probably go on Rock N Roller Coaster.
Sorry to sound like a bitter old man but I am getting older (almost cough*32*cough) and I might be getting bitter.

We only do it to make other people laugh, we stop when we r no longer near the other tram lol but its fun, ur telling me u would just get angry if u saw a tram of college kids with there arms up screaming for bloody murder on a tram goin 10 mph, u wouldnt laugh?

Believe me, when you are older you will understand how dumb it is. I cringe when I think back to the stupid things I did as a teenager. It's not as cool as you think it is.

Honestly even when I was of college age I didn't do these things because I saw it as not polite to other riders. The People Mover is meant to be a quiet relaxing ride. We just came back from WDW where our children wanted to ride it each time they saw it. On one ride we got in to a line of cars with collage kids who did this with each tram they saw. I almost jumped over our car at these kids. It's rude to other people. It ruins other people's experience of the ride. Honestly think about how you probably feel when you hear a screaming baby in a movie theatre and the parents don't get up and leave. It's the same type of annoying.
I can see how it would be fun, but if you don't know the people in the other train cars then what's the point? Believe me if you did it to me you wouldn't get a very fun reaction .

I would not get angry. I would get annoyed. I try and teach my kids to be respectful to the other people in the park so when they see older "kids" not being respectful it makes it that much harder to get the message across.
I hope that this isn't coming across as rude. That is not my intention. I would just like for you to think about how other people are really going to react to you yelling.

Coming from another college kid, that's kind of one of those things that only the people doing it find funny. There are other and better ways to make people laugh. :)

I enjoy this ride. Its a great ride when i need a break. I got to here the new voice when I went this past December. I don't like it at all. This is one thing I wished they wouldn't have changed.

Same here, I really miss the old voice. The new voice sounds a little too formal and doesn't really fit into the whole tomorrowland story that they try to tell.
