Uh oh. Opening a can of worms.
DL has quality, WDW had quantity. Depends on what you think is more important. DL is also a lot more catering to their locals.

World. While Land may have neat little updates like Haunted Mansion/Space at Christmas, it operates as a seasonal park. I like being completely enveloped in Disney World instead of being in a small park off I-5. I dunno. I just wasn't very impressed with DL as a whole.

I like both parks. I like Disneyland over the Magical Kingdom but I love Epcot in FL.

I have yet to visit Disneyland, but just from what I've seen in pictures and video I prefer it to Magic Kingdom.
But if we're comparing Disneyland (including DCA) and Walt Disney World Resort as a whole, then I don't even have to visit DL to say I like WDW better. Its just a lot bigger with a lot more to do.

I've never been to DLR, but I'd imagine it'd be hard for me to compare the two.
I heard a WDW CM put it in good words, he said WDW is huge (grand scale and a lot more to do), but DLR is where Walt walked. "I love them both, but for very different reasons."
This was from an interview I heard on the Muppetcast podcast.

I have been to both WDW and of course DLR/DCA (live 80 miles north). My daughter and I go alot and no matter how much we go we feel the magic walking thru Main Street.
Even though WDW was bigger we just didn't get the same feeling.

I prefer WDW, lots more to do over a week long vacation....and having a bigger pin trading store doesn't hurt either....now if they can get it to stop raining everytime I'm there.....

Which one is better???? Florida WDW or Cali DL??
This really is all opinion and one would think neither could be compared to each other considering they aren't even the same. Each resort has a different amount of parks, and attractions, not to mention it all comes down to the EXPERIENCE. Each one offers a different one and to compare them would be like comparing Peas to Carrots.

I'm lucky to have been to Disneyland 3X and I can say with absolutely NO DOUBT IN MY MIND:
No Contest
Disneyland by a LANDSLIDE. It's the only park Walt actually worked on. Every ride they have there that we also have in FL is 1,000,000X better in DL. It's also got a unique feeling to it, not to mention they've got the Subs and Indy as well.
DL WINS

I prefer Disneyland to The Magic Kingdom. Also The Grand Californian is one of my favorite hotels anywhere. But comparing the resorts as a whole I have to go with WDW. But I have to say that recently DLR has been MUCH more focused on the quality of their product where WDW has sort of been on autopilot for almost a decade.
Also as a whole I am not thrilled with the direction that WDI has been heading for the past 4-5 years. I don't really like everything being aimed at cartoon synergy. Most of my favorite Disney attractions aren't tied into a childrens film franchise. Everest was the last thing that isn't toony based. Everythng in the DCA redo and everything announced for WDW is based on cartoons (except Star Tours 2.0, and even Star Wars now has a cartoon).

Allow me to strongly disagree. Last I went to DL Nemo broke, Monsters Inc broke, Matterhorn wasn't running, Smallworld was down, neither Fant NOR Aladdin were shown, and I heard FOUR fur characters talking on set. WDW has four parks, two water parks, to many unique and themes resorts to count, and a DTD that even with the absence of PI and Virgin) spanks the pants off of DL's. Not to mention the Braves every spring at Wide World of Sports, multiple golf courses (including three putt-putts), and camp grounds. Disneyland might be the original, but that certainly doesn't make it the best. As far as US resorts go, I don't even think it's a fair to compare Florida to Cali.

Disneyland is great, and it offers alot of interesting attractions that WDW does not have, But WDW wins out hands down. Disney World offers an emmersive experience that takes visitors into a complete experience. It is just as quality as Disneyland in fact probably more so.

If you are comparing DL to the Magic Kingdom... DL will always take the cake. Hands down!
However... if you are comparing DLR to WDW as a whole, that's a different story! As a whole, WDW offers so much more compared to the DLR. From the different theme parks to DTD, From Cirque du Soleil to... you really can't compare the two.
Overall... I've been fortunate enough to go to DL quite a bit the last few years and I went to WDW and DCL for my honeymoon almost two years ago. I love Disney and enjoy the feeling of being able to be a kid and just take it all in.
I say enjoy the "Magic" and just smile!

well all i have to say DL is better since it has quality ... only reason why wdw has more park and more attractions is because they have the space have you seen dlr n the space its got not much but they still work with what they got... DL was the first so ofcourse wdw might seen better they learn from a mistake at dlr by not buying more land but DL its still the original and ofcourse have you seen these pictures

You guys JUST got the Maleficent this year so it isn't like it's been that way the whole time and, on that note, let's mention what a disaster it is trying to actually watch Fantasmic there. A) you have to stand the whole show and however long before and B) Mickey's finale on top of Tom Sawyers barn? really?
Personally I think the idea of DL having better quality is a complete load. People want to defend DL due to nostalgia and Walt's hand on it but honestly, ascetically it has little more to offer and I get tired of hearing people rave about it's quality factor. I had more rides break down at DL in a day than I ever have WDW, most of their spectaculars and shows only run seasonally, and their character integrity was embarrassing. Their queue lines are uninspired and leave you in out in the dead heat and I'm not a fan of their restaurants short of Blue Bayou. :nono: The only thing I enjoyed more about DL is that they don't waste space... but that's only because they can't..

Where the Magic began is my preferred park! I have been to WDW in June, August, February, and April. Does it ever get below 90 HUMID degrees? In Disneyland the family (not me) wears sweatshirts in the morning and evening and when the wind blows it is a B U T FULL cool breeze! You still get Disney Magic but you don't have to be soaking wet to enjoy it!

It drops to the 20's sometimes. You just have to plan ahead. One thing the heat will do here on a positive note is make one better appreciate Splash Mountain and the water parks :P

If you could tell me when the temp would be under 70 (is that asking too much?) I would consider going back to the tropics! It seems that I have the luck of missing the cool weather and arriving at the beginning of a heat wave. I'm talking about FEB & APR being in the 90's!!! I just drove there with the family in August.

Jan and Feb are the coolest months. Last year it was actually Feb that dropped to 20's at night. It was in the 50's and 60's in the day time up until March.

I agree with Scarletwebslingr. Especially when it comes to the queues. There is already no question about wdw being better, but when they finish up with the fantasyland remodel it is going to be concrete even for the doubters!

With all due respect, asking which is better between Disneyland and Disney World simply isn't a fair question. Why? A simple "land" can't nearly compete with a "world". I mean, 2 parks can't possibly compete with 4. Plus wdw has many more non-theme park options at the hotels as well.
When it comes to Disneyland I've always told people this. You should definately go if you are really going to appreciate it. Go if you'll appreciate it's unique attractions that wdw doesn't have.

Going to WDW in June and August when you're not used to the heat & humidity is crazy to begin with. :look:
If you dont like the heat, then you just have to plan & dress accordingly. it's really as simple as that.
Or go another time than June - August if the heat is that much of a problem

Most of the time yes. Have you seen what happens here when it goes below 70s? Everyone's out in sweatshirts and jackets.
December, January & February. Just gotta take your chances. It can go from in the 30s one day to in the 80s the next during what most would consider 'winter'

IMO,
I like both parks in different ways.
WDW: castle is larger, the fireworks don't get cancelled due to high wind conditions, Mickey's PhilharMagic, Carousel of Progress and I love their Big Thunder Railroad
Hollywood Studios: Tower of Terror (I prefer the random drops and 5th dimension), and the Rockin' Rollercoaster
But I like how Florida has other Disney Theme Parks to experience as well.
DL: Space Mountain, Astroblasters, Pirates, Fantasmic (ours is larger), Splash Mountain

I don't know that the 2 can even be compared. Walts dream for California was what WDW has become. The problem in CA was they didn't have the money to purchase more land. That was what DL gave them the ability to do in FL. Buy all the land he needed to do what he had wanted to do in CA. I think WDW is great, it has 4 parks, the water parks and put's DL DTD to shame but again. The money just wasn't there when they bought DL. Who knows what DL would have become if they had as much money to spend as they did when buying land for WDW. And sorry the biggest factor for me is DL was the first and without that there might not have been a WDW. Besides I live in CA so I get to go more often and enjoy what they have to offer and don't even think about WDW while doing it.

I agree with a lot of the other opinions, as an individual park Disneyland is the best amongst the six, but as a resort WDW is better. As others have said, 4 parks, 2 water parks, DTD, multiple amazing resorts and mini-golf in addition to boats you can rent, golf, etc. put WDW over the top. At DLR, you wouldn't stay in the hotel and not go to the park but at WDW we will do just that and enjoy the pools, eat at another resort, etc. There is so much more to do than just the parks, and the sum of the WDW parks is better than the sum of DL and DCA. Of course, I'd rather be at either than home.

I have never been to Disneyland and now I am sad it seems most people really enjoy it over magic kingdom...which is like my favorite park.

Pirates - DLR
Haunted - WDW
Small World - DLR

Oh wow. Although I'm sure WDW has it's fair share of CMs like that (I've actually come in contact with one of the rudes one before)
I really need to get out to DLR again. I've only been once and barely remember it.

I have been to WDW a total of 3 times and DLR only 1 time, but I did go to both parks within a week of each other this past September and will give you my take.
DLR: can be a cheaper trip & think better to take younger (under 5) kids; since only two parks really only need 1 day (to do what you really want) for each park (we did both in 1 day) so may only need a 3-night stay. Lots of decent hotels nearby for less than $100/night. You can walk to everything (to & between parks & DTD) and don't need a rental or wait for Disney Transportation. Depending on when you go the weather is MUCH nicer in Cali. I saw various Disney Characters just walking around by themselves without another CM as their sidekick. Really enjoyed the rides exclusive to those parks: Nemo Subs, Matterhorn, & California Screamin (i know there are more, but those are the ones I actually rode). Spent lots of time in the Penny Arcade :) Sleeping Beauty's Castle is small, but still so Beautiful. Other things:Lot of D23 events on the West Coast & The Expo will be here the next couple years. New Addition: D-Street store
WDW: Definately need at least a 4 night stay for this place...there is so much to see and do your head just might explode :yikes: Even though you are "on-site" you are still miles away from the parks and DTD, but if you aren't staying at one of the Disney resorts you better have a car and be prepared to pay for parking & possibly tolls. You will sweat late May to early October, it gets HOT here!
Stay with me people, it gets better  What I  about this place is the variety and theming of the Disney on-site resorts (if you can afford to stay there), they are all worth seeing at least one time if you have the chance. They seem to have more special events here: MNSSHP, MVMCP & other Christmas events, F&W, F&G, Star Wars weekends, etc. I think the indoor que line for TSMM at DHS is better than outdoors at DCA. Rides/Attractions DLR doesn't have that I like: Test Track & most of the other stuff at Epcot, Rock N Roll coaster, LMA Stunt Show, Pretty much everything at AK park, more Character Dining options, Cinderella Castle (HUGE), SpectroMagic Parade...I'm sure there are more, those are just off the top of my head.
For me it all depends on time of year. Summer - DLR (water parks don't appeal to me and we have some good ones near us anyways), but for Winter I would say WDW, especially Mid Nov-Early Jan with the Christmas decorations, MVMCP, Osborne Lights, etc If you go during an off time (before thanksgiving or after thanksgiving till Mid Dec.) you can usually catch some good deals through Disney with package and room only discounts.
Well that's my take. I'm sure after I post this I will think of more things to add :)

Growing up here in San Diego...southern california. for those of you who don't know SD is on the american mexico border. I always went to Disneyland and but would see disneyworld in movies and on TV....to me Disneyworld is my mecca. But growing up it seemed as though it was one park, I guess since you can't just pay one admission for all the parks it isn't as great as it seems. My manager at work is totally into disneyland and recently got married....his honeymoon was a 7 day stay at disneyworld and a 3 day cruise....JEALOUS!!

Oh gosh here we go...
DL vs. Magic Kingdom - DL wins hands down.
DLR vs WDW...
It's close, but I'd have to go with WDW. Maybe its because I'm so accustomed to going to DLR so often, but I feel WDW is a TOTAL EMERGENCE into Disney. That place is humongous. 4 parks, 2 water parks, a slough of other stuff...DANG! :yikes: Can't wait to go back to FL (last time was 2 summers ago). Animal Kingdom is my ABSOLUTE favorite Disney Theme Park.
For me... AK>DLR>DCA>MK>DHS>EPCOT
For the case of CA vs FL, I think FL would win. Again, this is probably because I'm in So Cal and I'm used to everything

Having visited both DLR & WDW on a few occasions (plus Paris & Tokyo) I personally prefer WDW as it is much more of a vacation location, the LA one felt like it was just a theme park on the outside of the city, magic kingdom and DL are very similar once your inside so I don't think that's a huge issue, but because WDW is so large you can competely get lost there and generally not really see the real world.

I have to go with WDW. Disneyland is the original, but there is a reason Walt wanted to build another one. There are many things that were improved upon at WDW. When comparing the two what gets me the most is the sheer size of WDW, and the fact that you are totally immersed in the experience for the whole vacation. Disneyland on the other hand is limited to the parks.
I do have to say that Disneyland>Magic Kingdom but WDW>DL
