View Full Version : Changing Titles of Threads

Just curious, can there a way to enable us to change the thread titles of our threads so it reflects in the main forum? I mentioned this in the trade/selling suggestion thread, but I know it can be done on other board programs, not sure if the one that VN allows that, or if it's just disabled. It would be great to lessen the clutter. So many members who are still posting a new trade thread every day. :nono:

i agree. I would like to amend my b/s/t thread title when I'm updating without creating a new post.

I agree - I was just looking for this feature yesterday!

This has been talked about.

Only thing you can change is the title inside the thread. But needs to have the title changed.

Yeah I agree it would be a good idea. It would probably eliminate some of the clutter, so you can tailor the title to what you are trying to sell. It would probably draw more traffic to a selling thread, if it was for a specific vinyl, vs "my vinyl trading thread"

:agree:It sure would be nice.

I agree- that way everyone can just have one Trade/Sell/Buy Thread. Hopefully this can work out!

Yup, noticed the bump of your dead thread. Curious why this hasn't been addressed yet. Where's Kayla and Greg to slap my hand that I forgot to search before I posted?

I have to say this...and will prob get the ban stick..but the site is lacking bad. One for staffing and other for updates. There has been a total of 3 threads on this subject, it has been brought up many other times and nothing has been done. I don't know if the owners just don't care or are to busy. If they don't care then walk away. But I know we all have lives and jobs (myself working close to 3), when you have a growing site that is expanding each day, put some work in to it, get some more mods on the site to do maintance and clean up. ( there is 4 mods and 2 admins). But 6 mods for a site that has over 1500 members just isn't enough.

I have offered my help as I use to run a florida based car forum, and have modded other forums.

There really isn't any control or order.

Sledge I don't hate you at all. I think what you have here is a golden nugget..it just needs to be polished. And if people are hittin below the belt kick back.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to allow members to edit the title of their thread. This is a setting that is only available to Staff since it also comes with other options that we do not want everyone to have access to (i.e. moving threads, sticking, etc.).

As far as adding updates to the forum... we do. We have lots of awesome features that many sites do not, but there comes a point where you run out of quality features to add. I try to read all the suggestions, but some of them aren't achievable based on the limits of the forum's software.

STP03bluesi, we are not one of those sites that makes a Staff Member out of anyone who has ever had a nice thing to say to us or been friendly with us via PM. There are lots of sites where the owners add two dozen moderators simply to keep their top posters happy, but I hate seeing that since it reflects badly when it looks like the top posters are only/mostly Staff Members. The Staff we have now is perfectly capable of handling <2,000 people right now. I think the Staff is doing a fine job.

They integrated the button to do sticky, move, and delete..wow that sucks. Then again VB has gone thru abunch of changes. But then again maybe that would be a good option to open up, then the threads could be changed and just lock the stickies. Just a opinion

Yea i am a member to a site where they have 20 mods..but its needed for a site that has 15k worth of board members. And yes seeing the same ones as "top" posters gets old but they know their stuff, either with programing, photography, cars, or what ever else.

But I just wish you would have come out and said. It cant be done, but instead it waited and waited.

um..where do you see that? It's not like there are a bunch of people posting extremely spam/n00bish threads (aka ones with no point at all) every single day. And I dont see how it's lacking updates. As far as forums go, I'd say VN is pretty great (I'm currently trying to figure out how to post on another forum that uses the old system of what we have, and their settings suck big time.)

And even if there is 2000+ people, how many of them actually post?

Thanks for clearing that up Sledge. That makes more sense sucks how the program included access of making stickies/moving threads. I personally think you guys do a great job of news and such. I always hear everything from here first. I wonder if it would be possible to maybe just designate a moderator or staff that could be in charge of changing titles if someone PM'd them. I know this could take a lot of work but again, if it was just one person and if it was someone that was on the boards 24/7 (which I do have a few in mind ). I think that could help a lot.

:agree: I think the staff is doing just fine :) Actually I prefer it this way. We know who the staff is, and so it's easier to know who to go to if you have a question or need a problem addressed. Plus it's evident Sledge puts a lot of consideration into who is a staff member, and that's definitely something I think it's really important. Just because someone posts a lot here, or just because they are on a lot doesn't qualify someone as a staff member.

Bottom line whether or not Sledge chooses to add members to the staff is totally up to him. He's the one with the cool mickey rank bar after all ;-)

The "control and order" subject that I brought up again (today and back in march) seems to have been read but not answered. People suggest things and on other forums those suggestions are written in a post stating that it won't work and then either Stickied or added somewhere so people could see it.

I have no issues with the staff. You all do a good job, I just wish when I had made the original post that something would have been said.

And as a side comment, STP03bluesi, my niece is in love with your avatar. She started crying when I scrolled my screen up. She thinks it's a cat

I don't either.

I mean, I'm no computer geek but as a forum moderator all I need to know how to do is delete threads, move threads, edit posts, give infractions and... yeah that's about it.

The only person who knows how to work the innards of this site is Sledge and that's because he owns in. He prefers it that way. He's been in website partnerships before where multiple people do updating on the site and whatnot and it just doesn't work out.

As far as the forum, I think we have enough mods for the time being. Its not like we have 1500 unruly members. We rarely have to delete anything. Besides at any given time there's usually about 100 members on and maybe 2 or 3 of the mods. Personally, I think its under control.
