It depends on their status and their length of employment...
could be 20 or 35% off. (Best guess)

And even more around the winter holidays. (Up to 50% I believe.)

I know people that work for Disney. If you've been there a certain amount of years or have manager status, it's 35% off although there are some exclusions. During the Holidays, I understand it goes up to 40% off. However, if they attempt to use the discount for anyone OTHER THAN THEMSELVES and Disney finds out, they will be terminated from the company. For this reason, most Cast Members will not use their company purchase discount for other people & never for Guests.

Three years until you get 35% off. And employees use their discount all the time for other people all the time. We use cash and there are no questions asked.

So having been there over three years, you could personally get entire cases of 24 for only $164.53 after tax and 9" for only $27.50 after tax!?

Yes Sledge - that would indeed be the cast pricing for VM. And I'm not saying it doesn't happen that a CM will use their discount for other people, but its against company policy. The Disney Cast I know are more on the management side, and are VERY wary about even bringing it up to others...I assume the hourly cast may be more liberal, its a person to person thing. And one more thing - Disney also watches E-bay and other sites to see if people are selling mass amount of Disney merchandise only available at the Parks, and from what I hear will investigate if they think a CM is involved in obtaining it a discount.

So what about the people who sell CM-only merch on eBay?

Good question - I honestly don't know. I would say if they are a CM and trying to buy at a discount then sell for more as a business or profit-making venture, its at their own risk. The people I know wouldn't even think about it, but then again the people I know are very loyal to Disney. Maybe they are going through a 3rd party?

They could be former CMs selling those items...well some of them. Some of the CM items up there, I cant understand why anyone would want to sell them.
And CM get 50% off in the parks during the Holiday Season, started last year, seems it's going to be around again this year.

Last year due to the economic times they were offering 50% off in the Parks only, not at Downtown Disney as part of the Cast Holiday Celebration. At Downtown Disney it was 40% off. I haven't heard which discounts they are offering yet, but it should be coming up soon as it usually starts in October. It usually goes from mid October through February.

A new policy implemented this year was a limit to how much cast members can purchase using their discount. Each time they buy something, their I.D. is swiped. So Disney can probably keep track electronically and when they've reached the limit, their discount is revoked for the rest of the year. This is probably the solution they came up with to keep employees from using their discount to buy for others or to re-sell on eBay. I'm just guessing.

That makes sense. I wonder what the limit is...

As I remember we got 20% as hourly CM and it went up to 35% when I was promoted to a salaried position (along with getting a silver pass). I never had a problem buying things for family members as long as I was present and did the purchase myself. I was never questioned in 14 years, but I never abused the privilege. I would imagine that profiting from the employee discount is just wrong and would be cause for termination.

The special holiday discount for all Disney cast members (WDW) is 40% this year from October 25 - February 11, 2010. This info is according to a CM friend of mine who read it on their HUB (online cast info). This discount will be for all "regular guest" merchandise locations at WDW Resort, including the theme parks, hotels, and Downtown Disney. Note, there are some third party shops on Disney property (e.g., Lego) that do not honor the same discounts as the Disney-operated shops.

Regarding the strict cast member policies: they do monitor eBay VERY closely. At the Company D here in Cali, there's an area with really exclusive things, like actual pieces of furniture from restaurants, hotels, and attractions. A family member was buying some plates from Club 33 and, since I'm a kid, I couldn't go past the gates in the area, so I stood off to the side while my family member who was a CM paid. they made the CMs buying things fill out lots of papers with personal information and what they bought, and I saw a lot of people in line with tons of glasses from a restaurant in Disneyland resort, and I heard them saying they would keep one and eBay the others(they were buying at least fifty of the same thing, and they were within earshot of the cast members in charge) I had no doubt they'd be caught, and I was glad. It's not right that they're abusing things like that. However, I don't think they're very strict on buying things for other people, like as gifts for family members. =o I've never heard of people being fired for using their CM discount at normal park stores to buy gifts for friends or family members.
