Im very excited for this! Glow Fest at California Adventures! Here is the article from the Disney Parks Blog....

http://parksandresorts.wdpromedia.com/media/disneyparks/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/hgf159169SMALL.jpg

Last month we shared details of the popular shows and after-dark entertainment that are returning for Summer Nightastic! Today, we have more exciting news. A new, high-energy experience called Glow Fest joins that line-up to light up summer nights at Disney California Adventure park.

While “World of Color” brings a whole lot of color to the Paradise Pier section of the Park, you will find bright lights and beams of color in Sunshine Plaza and the Hollywood Backlot at this summer’s Glow Fest.

Glow Fest begins with the sound of drums and powerful rhythms that will draw you to Sunshine Plaza. An electric energy fills the evening air. As the sun goes down, colors burst to life and music starts to play from a brightly-lit stage that seems to glow. Dancers and world music performers create a fun vibe that you will only find at Disney California Adventure park.

During Summer Nightastic! the daily experience takes center stage in Sun Plaza from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continues in the Hollywood Backlot until Park closing, so it’s the perfect thing to check out with your family, or if you’re just looking for a fun way to cap your night.

So I guess I'm alone in thinking that it looks hideous? I understand the reasoning behind the whole thing with the backlot becoming the holding area for the later world of color shows and thy want to keep people entertained and all but man, it hurts my eyes just looking at the mockups

I'm guessing it will probably be about as bright as It's a Small World at Christmas since it should be the same kind of projectors. I don't think they'd be adding a lot more lighting than that, DCA is already reasonably well lit at night. They want to create a party/night club atmosphere to give you something pretty to look at while you wait for the later World of Color shows. Since DCA is closed while the last 2 WOC shows are going on they're going to use the backlot as a holding area while people wait for the shows, so people could potentially be stuck there for a couple hours waiting for their show to roll around. They're lighting it up and playing music to keep you entertained, and while you're bottled up over there they'd be happy to sell you some WOC merchandise and food from whatever carts they can shoe horn into the area. The backlot is pretty much the only place they can stick people since the WOC lagoon and it's surrounding area cuts off about 1/3 of the park. The only other place they could theoretically stick people and keep them contained would be Bug's Land but I don't know that that was considered as an option. The backlot is a better option, there's a bunch of available space over there, I'm just not real clear on how they're going to separate people out between the last two shows. The people I really feel bad for are tourists. People who have saved for years to make their one trip out to California to visit the parks and they may lose several hours to standing around waiting for the show. I like Fantasmic because you can still be in the park and walk around until the second show comes, and then you can just walk over there and grab a seat. I'm probably being too negative when the first show hasn't even happened yet, and I know there's not much they can do just because of the way the park is designed, I'm just not looking forward to trying to corral my 3 year old for that long waiting for a later show.

They are now only doing 2 shows 9 and 10:15 (which starts 15 minutes after park closing) then depending on crowds in both parks at night they are considering extending DCA's park hours to 11 and adding another show at 11 but its only if Disneyland's crowds are lower and DCA's are way higher, other wise trying to leave both parks anytime after 11 will be a nightmare at the trams, buses, and structure just like in the early 2000's when California Adventures closed at 11 or even 12 and Disneyland closed at 12 and everything was crazy! I really hope that they are ready to make quick changes when the system they "think will work" doesn't actually work! Don't even get me started on parking for the summer time, thats a whole nightmare in itself!

Interesting. Not sure how it will play out, but I do appreciate the fact that Disney is trying to do something about the horrific crowds that happen for their nighttime shows. My husband and I always get great seats for Fantasmic right in the front...but that means trying to leave when it's over is RIDICULOUS. I'm glad they are empathizing with us because I think we all agree that we will each check this out at least once.

I actually thought those colorful images in the concept art were going to be light projections (like the light projection on It's a Small World during the Holiday season). Kind of disappointed that its just decals and murals.

It looks like they will have lights projecting one them but not projectors! Its funny because I found out that its not Disney designing Glow Fest its an outside contractor so maybe that explains why its so tacky?

Glow Fest was quite vibrant and lively. It's just like a big rave on the street. I didn't get any drinks so don't know if the cocktails (Mojitos or Cosmos) have alcohol in them. Draft beer was also offered. Personally, I wouldn't be selling the drinks where minors can have access to the area (I guess they can check your id prior to selling you the drink). People were spilling beer everywhere in the Backlot. You can smell it as you walk through the festivities. I just feel really bad for afterhours park personnel that have to clean the place up.

GlowFest is a lot of fun. It's definitely a club atmosphere. A bit like a club for middle school kids, but it's fun to go, have a drink and just chill. There's a dance performance at Sunshine Plaza right before and that was awesome too.

Maybe it's just me, but Glow Fest ruins the entire 'Disneyland' atmosphere. It's like walking into the middle of a club... I haven't personally, but you know what I mean.... The drinks, the dancing, the drunkness... It's a travesty to put it lightly. I could understand it if it was a little more teenage oriented. Small kids shouldn't be there when it is going on, and it was a little awkward for me - and I'm 17. I felt like I needed to be 21 just trying to walk to TOT. Walt Disney would be ashamed. Oh, and the horrible club remixes of Miley Cyrus don't help anything.

i know what you mean i went for my birthday, and it seems like its bit more for adult. its ok, i mean if you want to dance, i know i love to, but when buck tooth cyrus comes on the party really just dies.

i think what they had in mind was that most people would leave after world of color because of restless children so there would mainly be adults in the park. the drinks are alcoholic and there are officers who card you if you look under age. i had some one buy me my drink, and the people are pretty smashed if they are drinkinng. this guy i was dancing with dropped his drink and was too drunk to care.
its a fun place to be if you get bored you meet people, i met this girl whom i really want to f**ken punch her face in for what she did to me though hmmmm i know she has a pass too and she did say shes been there all week hmmmm revenge? sorry im just ranting now.

anywho im 50 50 on this, i do agree that this is something walt would be ashamed of i dont think he wanted alcohol served in his park tear* that goes for the wine cellar by blue sky.

I did not get to experience Glow Fest during my last DLR trip, but if you are a fan there was a new post on the Disney Parks blog for anyone headed to DCA this weekend

Glow Fest, a really popular experience at Disney California Adventure park this summer, will be even more lively July 30 through August 1. While I don’t want to spoil any surprises, we want to reward our loyal Disney Parks Blog readers with a little inside information. Every night this weekend, Glow Fest is charging up the night with a live DJ, colored shirt nights, and even more fun activities.

Check out these highlights:
Friday, July 29 – YELLOW SHIRT NIGHT
DJ CeeS spins live Friday night.
Around 8:30 p.m., meet on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood Picture Backlot to get the low down on a fresh dance move (it’s an “everybody-join-in dance lesson”)
About 8:45 p.m. DJ CeeS spins a track and everybody shows off the new Friday night dance move.
Wear a YELLOW shirt to get a shout-out from DJ CeeS. Who said yellow was mellow?

Saturday, July 30 – BLUE SHIRT NIGHT
DJ Ups spins live Saturday night.
Around 8:30 p.m., meet meet up at Hollywood Boulevard to learn the Saturday night dance move.
About 8:45 p.m. show off your new moves to a hot track from DJ Ups.
Wear a BLUE shirt to earn a shout-out from DJ Ups, and you’ll never have so much fun bein’ blue.

Sunday, August 1 – PINK SHIRT NIGHT
DJ Chase spins live Sunday night.
Around 8:30 p.m., don’t miss the Sunday night dance move session on Hollywood Boulevard.
About 8:45 p.m., DJ Chase spins while everyone grooves with the new move.
Dare to wear a PINK shirt and get your shout-out from DJ Ups. It’s a hot color for some hot music.

I wonder if there are actual surprises or all you get is a shout out (i.e. "Here's a shout out to all you pink shirt wearers" )

Hubby and I got a chance to see this dance show and "party" last friday night. He commented that the dancers did not look like Disney Employees(because of codes for facial hair, etc) so we believe an "outside vendor" is responsible for that. We did stay to watch the performance it was entertaining. The party on the backlot we did not stay to experience. I give DCA props for trying.

It is definitely an outside vendor. A cast member and I were talking one night before WOC, and she was telling me how the park misjudged the WOC occupancy, so they hired this outside company to produce a nightly affair to relieve some of the crowds.

After the summer and the outside vendors move out, rumor has it that a new version of Glow Fest will continue to be operated by the Disney Entertainment Department but with a TRON theme.

According to Al Lutz of MiceChat

The new version of this nighttime street party, to be designed and staffed entirely in-house by the Entertainment Department, currently has the working title “ElecTRONica”. The theme will play up the new TRON movie to be released this Christmas, and some of the same folks from the Studios who pulled off some of the TRON marketing stunts at recent ComicCon events down in San Diego have been consulted for the DCA version. Several elements of the popular Glow Fest will be re-used, like the street team dancers, the go-go girls, and the very successful cocktail bars set up in the middle of the street. ElecTRONica will also use the old Millionaire building in the back of the Hollywood section, to house a TRON themed video arcade

Just saw this update about Glowfest!

The wildly popular Glow Fest has now been extended through Labor Day, beginning 8/23 in a new format confined to the Sunshine Plaza area. The original end date was 8/22, but huge cocktail and food sales, and the continuing high survey rankings the nightly party gets from visitors, convinced TDA that Glow Fest needed to be extended right through the very end of summer. The TRON version, designed in-house this time, will debut later in September in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot.
