Oh I know, the merch they have for the event is amazing! They have non-SHAG stuff on there as well in a different link from other Disney artists, all HM.
I want like ALL of it!
There is alot of stuff I want from the Haunted Mansion 40th. Sadly I probably won't get most of it. :(

It sounds like so much fun.
Good luck to all of you that will be attending.

Is there any chance that somebody going would be willing to bring me back one of the figures? I will pay cash or trades or both. It is by far my favorite Vinyl yet so I really want to get one. PM me if anybody would be going and possibly willing to part with one of those SHAG figures.

I saw a "presale" for the Shag Vinylmation set on eBay last night. Starting bid - $100.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't they being distributed in such a way that you can't be sure if you are going to get one? Even if it was your first choice for Merch that night you might not get it? It seems a little shady that they are selling those already. Also, I believe it is against eBay policy to sell something you don't actually have yet. Not sure what to think of this.

I'm definitely not bidding. $100 is steep for any figures - regardless of only a limited edition of 150.

Well, with the retail price of a 9 and 3 set being 75$ it doesn't seem so bad to pay 100$ for an extremely limited edition event exclusive set, IMO anyway. But the shady nature of selling something they don't have is going to keep me away I think.

I agree that $100 is not an unreasonable mark-up. I was just saying that for me, I couldn't justify spending that much on ANY Vinylmations.

I imagine it's done the same way the merchandise is done for the pin events. You have to fill out a RSP (Random Selection Process), it's kind of like a lottery. You put down all the items you want, being sure that the one you want most is listed first since it's the one you're most likely to get. About a month before the event you receive a list of all the items you've been awarded. You're not obligated to purchase any of them or you can purchase all of them if you wish, but you have to let them know by a certain date if there is anything you don't want. The person selling the figure on ebay has probably awarded one of those on their RSP, but they have to wait until the event to pick it up.

I really, really like the cookie jar and the shot glasses and of corse, the vinyls; but does anybody else find it a bit morbid to eat cookies out of an urn? Not that that would stop me. I dont think these will be hitting the shelves since you need tickets
to attend the event.
But the vinyls are already on e-bay. I have not checked
to see if the other stuff is on there as well.

so I checked the completed items and one Shag HM vinylmation set sold for $300 on best offer? Either its a hoax from a seller trying to set a high price for future auctions...or they will really sell for this much? If they do really average for $300, I will be really sad! I was thinking I'd have to part with like $150 to get one, but I guess it will be more!

In my experience, there are always those who jump the gun on whats new and hot and pay too much. Sometimes it's for bragging rights and other times they want to make sure they have a set. Remember also that people bidding on these are not just vinyl fans but also SHAG fans and/or Mansion fans. I personally plan to wait and see how it falls out or consider working someone for a trade. There are already at least a half dozen listings currently out there and I am sure there will be more as people get their RSPs.

This vinyl set will be the Holy Grail for many collectors collections. It is a really well done set. The Ghost Host is phenominal!! A really great design. And the 3" design is fun and fits in really well. And like it has been said, it will appeal to a multitude of collectors - vinylmation, Haunted Mansion and SHAG. And since it is part of the 40th anniversary items for the Haunted Mansion, it will really be sought after.
When the auction ends that does not have the "buy it now" option, it will be more of an indicator as what people are going to start paying for this set.

I agree. Both figures are really well done. The 9" is one of the best 9" designs in all of Vinylmation. And with the amount of enthusiasm Haunted Mansion fans have, I can EASILY see the 2-piece set being sold successfully on eBay for over $400.

Between the Shag and Haunted Mansion people I agree with you Big Al. People out here at DLR are already talking about how much they would get if the sold it. Most people I know are actually keeping theirs. That will bring the total on the market down even more. In a few months it may actually go for more than our guess! I am going to resort to selling the kids or getting them jobs as this is getting EXPENSIVE even without Shag!

Yeah, I still think most of the prices out there are still way overpriced, even for this SHAG set. Others will probably disagree or already have, but I think if these where going to go for at least $400 each we would have seen the existing ones at BIN $350 or so already long gone. I do agree there will be a handful of people that will purchase these at those prices, but once those first few are out of the way these will either not sell or the prices will have to be lowered. I haven't seen these up close at all during previews but it looks like there are a few places where those decal stickers have been used again, for example somewhere along the eyes stuck out to me. I would probably say just be patient and the prices will come down a bit eventhough its a very limited edition size. Those who can't wait I say good luck spending $350-$400 on a vinyl, I will put my money elsewhere and pass over these...

Until those first couple of auctions close that have actual bidding going on, we won't see where the price will hover. Once those auctions close (which currently there are two at around $170) we will then see what people are willing to bid up to. When people are bidding, they are willing to start bidding higher to try and get the item, hoping to get it lower then a buy it now, but some will come close to the buy it now prices I bet.

Yeah, But like I mentioned previously its just the beginning and only four have sold so far...I would say see what happens when some of the people who are willing to pay loads of $$$ have already purchased their items through ebay, then you will be able to tell what people will pay for these. Its just too early to tell, even if the bidding on those two items ends up near the $350 range, doesn't mean once the 15th or 20th vinylmation gets put up for auction that it will go for that amount. Every vinylmation figure, for the most part, have come down in price including Park Series 1 (Except for a few like kermit, chaser)...
Its kind of the nature of the beast with how ebay goes, even with Disney pins the first few to put them out typically get the highest amount and then they come down in price. Its been the same way with the Vinylmation figures that have been released so far, I wish I had a spreadsheet and kept all the auctions from ebay for vinylmation that have sold. I was going to join the developer community and write a script to pull data down to my computer for all vinylmation auctions and only pick out the ones that have sold, but unfortunately ebay changed the way they keep "Completed items" and now you can only go back 14 days...grrr....

WDWTigger72
07-25-2009, 10:53 AM
This really depends on your preference, I have a handful of 3" figures that I have signed both the vinylmation figure and the cards. Thanks to a local friend on getting these for me, and going through the trouble  The only reason I wouldn't have the box signed is if you decide not to display the box, then you sort of have a useless signature because you really want to show off the artist design and their signature. Its a personal preference to what you want signed, and really its a personal preference to each collector. Some people like the box only, some like the figure only, and others like the card. I would just recommend having them sign things in a more inconspicuous area such as maybe behind the ears or on the back of the vinylmation card...This way it doesn't take away from the actual design of the figure or the card design...

I would think whomever has the 9" should garner most of the cost, just my opinion on this I guess. Here is my thinking:
9" Vinyl = Regular Cost $39.95 (Not Including Combos)
3" Vinyl = Regular Cost $9.95 (Not Including Combos)
Total Cost = $49.90
9" Cost = 80% ($39.95 Divided By $49.90)
3" Cost = 20% ($9.95 Divided By $49.90)
This is just my opinion, and I am only trying to make it fair for the other partner you might go into this deal with. Since these are selling for an average of $250+, I don't think the person getting the 3" portion should pay up $125.
P.S. You could probably also make a trade request in the trade section, I have seen these type requests before for splitting a case of vinylmations.
cowbandit03
07-27-2009, 08:27 PM
Hey will do that. Sorry I wont be going to the event just wanted to see if anyone wanted to split one on ebay.
And no offense on your opinion of 3 inchers would you sale your chaser from any regular series for 9.99?
Both are LE 150. I think splitting is more then fair. According to you the person should only play 50.00 for the 3 incher and the 9 incher should be 200.00. If the price was sold at 250.00. Sorry but your math doesnt seem to add up :) Below the price of most chasers of regular series? Both are le 150 and equally rare.

PM replied Cowbandit03. Although you disagree, I do agree with WDWTigger72. As much of a limited run and collectible it is I couldnt justify spending half especially after finding out that its for an ebay bid instead of actually getting it at the event at whatever the event price would be.
As for the limited factor, looking at ebay I see a Park 1 chaser with about 20 minutes left and the openning bid is $100, however guess how many peple have placed a bid? No one has. The only other Park 1 chaser up there is currently at around $82 with two days left. I highly doubt that will go as high as $125 which is what your insinuating due to the nature thats its a LE.
I wish I could help you get your figure and me get the one I want in the process too but I cant justify paying half for the 3¨ figure.
If anyone else is actually going to the event or is going to pick up their set but only really wants the 9¨ figure feel free to PM me and maybe we can work something out to take the 3¨ figure off your hands :)

No problem at all! Goodluck! If anyone would be willing to do the trade let me know! Sorry just dont understand where yall get yalls price points from. All vinyls 9 inchers that have come with a 3 inchers have retailed for 75.00. How do you explain that extra 35.00 attached to it? :) Now the 9 inchers are 65.00 and the 3 inchers are only 10.00 still?

Well lets break the typical Vinyl two-pack $75 price. A regular 9" is $40 (I'm rounding just for ease :D) and a 3" is $10. Both together is $50 so that leaves $25 for the mark up. Now simply based on size and original price its pretty resonable that the 9" figure is infact going to be more exspensive of the two figures. Going off of WDWTigger72's breakdown on costs which seem fair, 20% of the $25 mark up would be $5 (if my rusty math isnt bad :D), which means that the actual prices for each figure would be $15 for the 3" and $60 for the 9". The 9" going up the most due to its already high price. I guess another resonable trade off would be the 3" @ $20 and the 9" @ $55. The end price of $75 isnt that both figures are priced at $35; but they're priced on the aspect that both figures prices go up.
Now again I dont know how much the set is going for if you go to the event. I'm assuming $75; but I can be corrected if I'm wrong. But if I came across someone that was actually attending the event and buying the set at retail price then I really wouldnt have a problem with even going half and half. Sure I'll take a $35 hit to help. However with the obvious price-hike of ebay its not reasonable to pay half for a figure that wouldnt cost half to begin with as a set.
I'm not doing this to attack or anything. I'm just trying to explain why there would be such a difference in price if a set was split and why one would cost more then the other. :D

You are correct about it being $75 at the event.

My math works out perfectly, and should be fairly easy to follow...I cannot discuss or understand why Disney has decided to put a $74.99 cost on a 3"/9" combo set, so I can not break down or comment about that. The only thing I can base my math off of is the current cost Disney charges for a 3" vinylmation ($9.95) and a 9" vinylmation ($39.95) which together would cost the a grand total $49.90. Its really simple math when you figure out the percentages, so it should be fairly easy to follow. If you take offense to my mathematical break down, then so be it, there really isn't much I can do about that...Just expressing my opinion on how I would see the breakdown of the SHAG vinylmation based on existing 3" and 9" prices and totalling them out. A 20% (3") and 80% (9") breakdown isn't that unreasonable, even if that was increased a little bit. You also have to remember the ones selling on ebay are both 3" and 9", and your taking the biggest character of this rare set away with you. If you could not follow the breakdown or do not understand it, then there isn't much more that I can do for you, but I personally wouldn't split for getting a smaller character. In my eyes its like you taking a case of 3" vinylmation, and you take the 12 individual characters (including chaser), and I get the other 12 characters (double of a certain vinyl), but yet we split the cost...That doesn't make much sense either since the chasers are always the one going for more money.
Even if you go by your comment on specifically the balloon chasers, they are going right now for about $100 average since I have a complete spreadsheet on ebay sales that have occurred for Vinylmation. If the SHAG Vinylmation, which is currently averaging about $275-$280, you would still be looking at a 3" (30% roughly) and 9" (70% roughly) split...So, My math isn't far off even regarding your comment on the Balloon chaser.
P.S. I wrote this earlier in my post, and your request should probably be in the trade section anyways, not inside a discussion of the SHAG Vinylmation so that you can entertain offers.

I feel for cowbandit03 and everyone seems to be against his point of view :bonk:, so I think I'll express a counter point. :yikes: First off, obviously, it's up to the original buyer to determine what he would want to sell/split a VM for since they have to put up the cash first. And it's up to the second buyer/splitter to determine if they want to pay it. Heck, if cowbandit could find someone that would pay 90% of the price for the 3", I wouldn't fault him for selling it for that much. My post here isn't to say split 50/50 is right or wrong, but that it could be argued either way based on your point of view. "You will find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." (Movie quote... sorry lol).
Now, as to how to price the 3" and 9" pieces. To me the inherent assumption by WDWTigger is that the 9" and 3" set should mirror the pricing of the already released 9" and 3" VMs. In a way though, that's comparing apples to oranges. The 9" are LE 100-600, while production runs for the 3" are in the many thousands. The 3" are LE as well, we just don't know the total run. Toadwildride's post here: http://www.vinylnation.net/forums/showthread.php?t=461 has his estimation of Park 1 at 4000 of each. Assuming that, (and there are no other reliable numbers to use, so we'll just assume) that means there were 2000 cases, and therefore 2000 Chasers. All the other chasers seem to be falling into the $40-50 range, which would make them on par with the 9", with much higher (although unknown LE counts). If the chaser LEs went down to 9" levels, I'm sure their price would rise as well.
My best comparison for a 9" would be to the Park 1 Chaser due to demand and the limited nature of Park 1. On eBay (our best guess at an open marketplace), my rough estimates puts the average prices for the Park 1 Chaser around $100. That's for an LE ~2000. Who knows what it would sell for the open market if it was a LE 150, but let's take a wild guess and say $150? I think that's reasonable, but it's open to debate. Are there any other 9" going for that much? I don't see any.
WDWTigger stated SHAG presales going for $275-300. A 3" Park 1 Chaser with a LE the same would probably be (at minimum) half that price, if not more than $150. Therefore, I don't see why one shouldn't expect a 50/50 split for the SHAG 3" and 9".
My last thought is if there were actual LE 150-500 3" VM, I doubt Disney would price them at $10. The price difference between 3" and 9" is because of the scarcity, not the actual physical difference between them. I'm sure the actual cost of the 9" is marginally higher than the 3". So how do they justify the mark-up? Just because it's bigger? I don't think that would work. You do it by making it more scarce and appealing to that sense of urgency in those addicted collectors. And I have NO idea who any of THOSE people are.
p.s. sorry for the super long post. Just wanted to give an alternative view.

We have a jedi master amongst us ;-):D Don't worry about a long post, its really just a discussion between two different points of view to how the 3"/9" cost split should be. Hey, If he finds someone who is willing to split the cost 50/50 then so be it, but I still feel the bigger figure should burden the cost regardless of limited edition size of 150. They are both limited edition figure sizes of 150, but are not physically the same size, and if you went on any vinyl collectible doll/figure sight you would see a big cost differential between 3"/9" figures (Even if Disney produced a limited edition 3" figure and a 9" figure they would not be priced the same, as seen by the current 3" and 9" figures...Any vinyl retailer would have them a different price, even if they where the same exact design). Plus, My personal opinion is that I think the 9" is a much better looking design compared to the 3", so I would be all for getting the 9" myself. Keep in mind, We are also talking about secondary markets here such as ebay which always has markups on most limited edition collectibles or first series collectibles, just go and find a darth vader kaws...They are like $1000 now if not more. From a company/corporate standpoint, Its actually more costly to have a smaller edition size compared to a larger edition size. Since we are only talking smaller limited edition sizes of 150-650 (9") and like you said a couple thousand for 3", I am sure Disney doesn't see a big cost difference from that perspective on what the factory charges them. Who knows why there is such a cost discrepency between 3"/9" combo set and purchasing these completely seperate, and the only way you could tell is (1) If you start your own vinyl business and shop around (2) Work on the inside at Disney and know the cost analysis structure for their products...Which honestly, I wouldn't mind doing that I think it would be fun :)

I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I was awarded a set on both my lst and 2nd RSPs. I didn't know about this forum until today so right now my 2nd set is selling on ebay for $245-I had no idea it would be this popular. But it will help me pay for my event ticket/hotel.
I doubt there will be any available at the event store but if I can buy any I will and put them up for trade.
Good luck to all to find your "Holy Grail" (that's pin trading talk!)

Do you lurk eBay to get these stats?
Pretty much, I wish there was another way I could get data from other places unfortunately only auction sites would list the final price listing. It helps that I type about 100 words per minute, and every 3-4 days I can type up all the data in about one hour. Technology has been a previous passion of mine, so I wanted to join there developer communicaty, and write a program that would pull the data automatically (Fairly easy to do as long as they accept me in the program). The only problem is how people list it, its too bad there isn't a template for example:
Category 1: Vinylmation
Category 2: Park Series1 , Park Series 2, Urban Series 1, etc
Category 3 (Based on previous selection): Bad Apple, Balloon (Chaser), Figmouse, etc.
It would make it so much easier, especially where some people have no clue still to what Vinylmation is, they just post it up there and sell it. I forgot some of the listings I saw but they where pretty comical to how they where listed.

Any of you guys and gals collect posters/concert posters??? If you've never been on it check out www.expressobeans.com . The website has built in tracking of eBay sales for the posters so that collectors can make informed decisions about when to buy...or not. Don't know what would be involved in doing that for Vinylmation...probably too much work...maybe a high/low sale thread would be handy.

Well, Yes and no regarding too much work...You can join the ebay developer community which would give you access to their database. Then you could write a script using something like PERL that will go and pull certain fields from their database, and then import all that data into a SQL database. Seems complex, but the data is already there, its really a matter of writing the code for pulling certain fields, but ebay has really good documentation on their functions you can use...Technical knowledge of programming languages, databases, etc is definitely a bonus.
There was a thread by the way someone was putting together of high and lows on vinylnation.net will have to find it but its definitely out there, not sure if it continues to be updated though. I have data pretty much from April (Part of), May, June, July, August...Hopefully, Can find some other site that has the data for Jan/Feb/Mar/Apr for most part, since I think its easier to grab that data since not many vinylmations where out yet...
UPDATED 6:04PM
Yeppers, There was a thread out there but it looks like it hasn't been updated since 06-17-2009, its definitely a task to keep the data updated so I don't blame someone for not keeping track of the data:

HM 40TH Anniversary by SHAG Released
August 11, 2009
The SHAG Haunted Mansion 40th Anniversary "Spirited" Cocktail Reception took place over the weekend where a select number of attendees were able to purchase this new, Limited Edition 150 set. The reception gave guests the opportunity to meet the artist known simply as SHAG and purchase some of his new Haunted Mansion inspired merchandise through a Random Selection Process. With only 150 of the Haunted Mansion 40th Anniversary set (http://www.vinylnation.net/forums/../vinyls/specials/specialout.html) available, this is the most limited of the Vinylmations that have been released thus far.

The 3" is actually very purple, but this is the best I can get it, it just photographs blue.
As for a person buying 5, what WDWTigger72 explained was pretty close. Each paying registrant was allowed 3 rounds of RSP. You could purchase 1 of each item on each RSP. Then, it worked like a lotto system. So, for someone to get 5, I'd imagine both him and his wife submitted it on all 3 of their RSP's, He got chosen for 3 of them, and she got 2.
There were so many people I saw with 6 cookie jars, 6 charm bracelets, etc.. It was sorta sad, because I know collectors would love to get their hands on it, and almost all goes to ebay. But, that's the way things are unfortunately. I just feel very very lucky I was able to get mine :)

Did you have to be AT the event to purchase those items in the link, or could one purchase them on-line if they were a D23 member? My wife and I are probably going to sign up for a D23 Membership this week.

It was for a special Haunted Mansion/SHAG event a few weeks ago, they aren't available online to anyone, but a few of the left over things are at the parks.

Boooo.... ok, well thank you for clearing that up for me :( I love that SHAG 40th Edition VM set. I don't know what it went for at the Event, but I know I've been seeing them go on Ebay for some insane prices!

DL has the ears (saw them yesterday).
Also saw the shirts, t-shirts, drinking glasses, trays, coasters, postcards, water bottles, soft lunch "boxes." I didn't see urns.
Did you happen to notice the price of the ears? I would really like to get my hands on a pair, but I don't want to pay what they're going for on eBay.

I bought the urn last night at the Art of Disney in MK! There were only 2 left including the one I bought. I think the only one they have left there is the one on display. I love that thing! :)
I think someone was asking how much they cost and it was $58 and some change including tax.

I got the urn cookie jar this morning at MK. There was prolly a few left if anyone is still looking for one.
I didn't think it would be so big but damn is it huge.
Also got the postcard set.

I was at MK too. I saw they still had the cookie jar urn, glasses, decanter, tray, the Reyn Spooner Hawaiian shirt and regular tee shirt.
