Rumored Star Tours and Midway Mania Closing Date Set For WDW!

I just saw this interesting post on twitter from stitches kingdom about a "rumored" date for the Florida Star Tours and Midway Mania to close. These have not been confirmed by Disney but here are the "rumored' date they give! For Star Tours the closing date is 9/8/10 and the reopening date is 5/20/11 and Midway Mania is August 15th to September 5, 2010! No word on Disneyland closure dates! Here is the link

I know I said the same thing but they are adding new games to promote Toy Story 3 so hopefully they will be just as good! :lol:

Star Tours reopening about a week after we plan on leaving haha. Might see if the wife wants to push the spring '11 trip back a bit ...

Edit : nm that would run us up to memorial day weekend I think. I'll just wait till October I guess.

It is the same as Disneyland only difference I can remember is the outside:)

i doubt they would close two premier rides at one park this close together. excpecially midaymania. im sure they wouldnt close it in the middle of summer. i may be wrong though

It was stated by Disney that Star Tours was going to close to upgrade it. So if the dates are correct, it wouldn't surprise me. And I'm assuming Toy Story Mania is only closing for annual maintenace. Isn't August when many schools start back anyway?

Thanks, I guess I will just ride DL Star Tours till I puke and call it an end of that era. I'm kinda bummed they are changing the ride, I love the 80 tackeyness of it.

I don't know, they might do some minor thematic touch ups! :shrug:

I just hope they dont change Midway Mania too much because its a ton of fun as it is right now!

What they need to change for Midway Mania is the fastpass queue. If you use a fastpass, you don't get to see MPH or that general area of the ride, which is a shame (unless this was changed since my last trip). They should at least remove the walls between the two, but best would be to have the FP queue go around the outside of that room, right in front of MPH. New games could be interesting, especially if they could change them without any shutdown at all, or at one station they were a random pick from a pool.

For Star Tours, while I hate to see stuff that I've been riding for such a long time go, for me its time has come and gone, and come and gone again. It would be cool, though, if they actually had one old Star Tours simulator and the rest were new...but I'm not sure anyone would ride the old one early on.

I really like DHS, but I wish it had more rides...even A, B or C-ticket type ones. A parachute ride themed after the green army men would be interesting, for example.

With midway mania it can be refurbished pretty easily i think cause the stouff they have in there is really just pictures on the wall so they can just cover those up if they dont go with the theme of the ride. It being mostly a screen ride they can really redo the whole thing away from the ride and they probably will only **** it down for a week at the most to recalibrate the guns, if they even need to do that, for the new games. I think midway mania is just the perfect ride for them to do all sorts of special event kinda games, like they can do halloween games, christmas games etc.. and it would be easier to do then changing the haunted mansion into the nightmare before christmas ride.

I knew that Star Tours was closing but I had absolutely no idea that Midway Mania was... I still don't understand why they would shut it down for so long... or even at all... even to promote Toy Story 3... theres an entire area for Toy Story... isn't that promotion enough?

Well according to imagineers Midway Mania was designed to be altered every so often, no one thought it would be this soon but hey as long as the games are fun I'm good with it! :lol:

Funny thing is my 5 year old loved Star Tours just the way it is. For me yes it is pretty tired. Just got back Wed. form WDW and Loved the midway mania, if they could really theme it easily a Star Wars tie in for this weekend would have been great.

It is so cool! The one in California Adventures got some updated effects in all the games as well as the new game! Can't wait to ride it again! :happy:

I think the flyer said it was $70 or so to attend the event and made it seem like it would be the last time to ride the ride, so they may be shutting it down earlier than previously thought. They showed a few concepts for the new version, like the new vehicle, but nothing too interesting that I recall. I didn't have a camera with me, but the info was near the exit to the indoor SWW merch shop (normally the exit for the backlot tour).

Are those confirmed dates? We will be at WDW over that time and would definitly head over to DHS on the 8th in the evening. How cool would it be to be one of the last guests to ride the original!!

Yup those are confirmed! They are actually earlier than the October dates given for both! I honestly have no clue why Disneyland's is closing earlier! Maybe ours is the tester for both resorts? :shrug:
