I'm sure most of you have heard by now the terrible news but for those who haven't yet, or didn't hear the full story I thought I'd make this thread.
At around 2AM on July 5th, there was a fatal accident on the Epcot line at the Transportation and Ticket center when a head on collision occured between the Pink and Purple trains.
It is reported that the Purple train was parked and the Pink was reversing to change onto the resort track to head back to the roundhouse for the evening. The driver of Pink was erroneously told to the track switch was active and he would be driving onto a clear track, but this was not the case and he drove into the occupied track.
Purple was parked, waiting for pink to clear the track so they could continue to the Epcot lot to transport the 1 remaining family to their car. The driver of Purple, Austin Wuennenberg, aged 21 sadly lost his life when the trains collided. The other driver was taken to the hospital but was reportedly uninjured. The family of 5 was treated at the scene.
My condolences to Mr. Wuennenberg's family, friends, and fellow cast members. Truly a very sad time in WDW Resort history.
Monorail service was restored earlier this afternoon.
