I know Half Blood Prince is almost due to release but I just read some new and big news in casting for the last 2 split films...
Bill Nighy Says He’s Finally Joining The World Of ‘Harry Potter’
The Harry Potter website, The Leaky Cauldron, has found out that actor Bill Nighy has told The Independent that he will finally be starring in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows after a long, long time claiming to be one of the few British actors not cast in a Potter film.
The Leaky Cauldron apparently caught wind of this a long while back, but only now is it seemingly being confirmed by Nighy himself. Though the actor decided not to say who he would be player, experts are confident that he’s a shoo-in for the role of Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour
Here is what Bill Nighy had to say:
"I don’t think I’m allowed to say it but I’m going to be in the next Harry Potter film. I won’t say which character, but he’s a goodie. I just got the gig."
When asked if he’s even read the books, he explained “Not yet, but I will! It’s rather like being in a Shakespeare that way, you know?” — a quote that may have Potter fans nervous. Personally, Nighy is one of the best in the business and whether he is playing this character or he’s just voicing the epic return of Dobby, the house elf, he can only help the last two movies to be that much better.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is next in line for release on July 15, 2009. The first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is looking at a November 19, 2010 release, with part two coming out July 15, 2011.
Very excited! For all of you who are unfamiliar with Nighy's name... he played Davy Jones in the Pirates films :)

Isn't Scrimgeour in H-BP?
I can't remember for sure, but who's to say they didn't just eliminate him from HBP like so many other character throughout the series.
I'm a little curious about that "Dobby" comment...did he do Dobby's voice originally? If not, then why would they change actors now?
On a related note, did anybody else hear that HBP IMAX is not going to be released until two weeks after the movie? I heard that Transformers (I think) had already locked in an "exclusive" IMAX run contract for so many weeks before HBP got pushed back; and now those weeks overlap, so they have to wait to release the HBP IMAX version. I guess I'll be seeing it twice because I really want to see it in IMAX, but I don't want to wait until the 3rd weekend to go see it....I wonder how many other people they'll sucker in that way.

I don't think Schrimgeor is going to be introed in the flicks until the last two it seems. I haven't read the books in so long I don't recall how big his role is in HBP, was he made Minister of Magic then or in the last book? He is a very intimidating character as a recall, Nighy can do it... he can do anything :)
Not sure why they threw Dobby in there... I think they are just joking that he could play a mere voice and not actually be IN the movie. But I doubt that. Toby Jones does the voice of Dobby and is returning to do it again. At least that is, he is listed on imdb.com to do so, but not sure how accurate it is.
Another strange casting, to me at least, is Rhys Ifans (The really weird flatmate in 'Notting Hill') as Xenophilius Lovegood.
Like I said I haven't read the books in awhile but wasn't he a rather large-ish man? For some reason that is how I remember picturing him.

In HBP the book, Scrimgeour is introduced as the new Minister of Magic in the very first chapter when he meets with the muggle Prime Minister. I believe they cut out this scene, the odd events in London will still be shone. In the DH book, Scrimgeour visits Ron, Hermione, and Harry at the Burrow to read Dumbledore's will and give them the things Dumbledore left for them. Not a very big part, but important, and if you have two films, you may as well leave it in.
Don't worry about the Dobby comment. Those scenes have been filmed. The same actor is voicing him.

From Mugglenet.com:
Joshua Herdman reveals Deathly Hallows split, plot change
Joshua Herdman reveals Deathly Hallows split, plot change Several weeks ago, a not-for-profit Potter symposium (MuggleMayhem) was held in the UK, and MuggleNet's own Jamie Lawrence was present to participate in some of the events.
Actor Joshua Herdman, who plays Goyle in the Potter films, was one of several actors from the franchise who hosted a Q&A session at the event. He revealed some particularly interesting Deathly Hallows information with fans that is worth reporting.
First, Herdman said that the current plan was to split Deathly Hallows just after the trio are captured by the Snatchers and right before they are taken to Malfoy Manor. Many fans had speculated this is where the split would be, as it will provide quite a cliffhanger between films. Please note that - while this may be the current plan - the director and producers have made it clear that they could very well change where they had been thinking of splitting it if they thought a different point worked better after filming was complete.
Second, Herdman says that his character will be the one who dies instead of Jamie Waylett's character (Crabbe). This decision was made after Waylett was arrested and convicted of cannabis possession several months ago. Waylett is not expected to return for Deathly Hallows.

Ummm why all the naked?
[Updated] ‘Harry Potter’ Star’s Nude Scene Confirmed For ‘Deathly Hallows’
UPDATE: SnitchSeeker has discovered that Daniel Radcliffe will actually appear nude twice in the film.
Yates said, “There is another scene in Kings Cross station, where Harry almost dies and sees Dumbledore. In that scene he will also be naked.”
As with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, an additional scene not found in the book will be added to the film adaptation of Deathly Hallows. “It’s a scene where Hermione and Harry dance together and is not in the book – it’s something we created for the film and is actually very tender, very nice and respectful, and they also reveal some secrets about each other while dancing,” said Yates.
[End of Update]
Director David Yates has confirmed that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will appear nude in a scene in one of the installments of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
The 20-year-old actor, who’s played the title role of the young wizard for six movies so far, will be in the nude for a scene with longtime co-star Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger.
No word whether the 19-year-old actress will be nude in the scene as well.
Yates gave Video Business a brief description of the scene.
In one scene, “a horcrux [carrying a piece of Voldemort’s soul] defends itself by producing nightmarish visions, and one shows Hermione and Harry embracing and kissing,” explained Yates. “It’s something intriguing and sensual for Rupert to react to, and Dan will be bare for that.”
It’s unclear whether the scene will occur in Part 1 of Deathly Hallows, due out in November 2010, or in Part 2, scheduled for July 2011. The scenario happens just around the midway point in the novel by J.K. Rowlings in the “Silver Doe” chapter (p. 377 in the U.S. hardcover edition to be exact), although there’s no mention of nudity in the book.
This won’t be Radcliffe’s first time baring it all for his craft. The actor appear in the nude for a famous scene in the London and New York stage production of the play, Equus.

I hate every liberty the films have taken so far, most especially with the last film. Burning the Weasly's house? Harry choosing not to aid Dumbledore due soley to Snape's suggestion not to? No funeral? And now we have naked students... heck why not include a scene of Hagrid shaving his beard for Locks of Love? I'm sure it would be a tender moment as well.

:agree: I don't see why these scenes would be at all necessary. Are they doing this becuase of the reaction TL got for baring his chest in New Moon??? Trying to get all the teeny-boppers in as many times as possible??? And why, oh why do they need to add a Harry/Hermione kiss??? I think they're just trying to get all of the Harry/Hermione "shippers" excited. I don't get it, the book was great as is. Why add all of these scenes that really don't add anything crucial to the story?
As much as I love the books, the movies have never really done them justice. :(

I think what bothered me most is the stuff they've left out. There're complete story-lines and characters that we'll never see. I understand that there's no way they can include everything, but I think something simple like Dumbledore telling Harry that he was the one who gave him the invisibility cloak would have been nice to include. And I'm not sure that they've even mentioned Bill in the movies. I know Ron's talked about Charlie, but I don't recall anyone every mentioning Bill (I could be wrong on that, though).
So I'm guessing they will completely cut out the wedding scene since they've never mentioned Bill, much less Bill and Fleur as a couple. I also think that Dobby wasn't included as much as he could have been. I don't think his death in the final movie will be as effective as it was in the book since the audience was not given a chance to know/care for him even more. IMO, but I guess we'll see.

Funny how some movies/shows that are based off books can get away with changing a lot (True Blood) but then others get slammed for it (HP). I get why the HP readers would be mad about it though.

I only get mad when it's stuff that drastically effects the main story-line, and I think TV series are more forgivable because it's continuos and if something important is left out, it could always be slipped back in. A film is a one-shot deal. (until 10 years from now when Hollywood in its infinate wisdom desides it's time to do a remake )
Plus, I think it also depends on if you've read the books first or saw the film first. I watched all of TB before ever cracking open one of the SS books so I constantly find mysef comparing the books to the show and not the other way around like I do with HP.

Totally agree! I mean there is SOOO much there... right there IN the book to take from, why the heck make up something!? That drives me nuts!
When I read these books they play in my head like a movie, so why can't they just make that work and not make up crap and add nudity for no reason at all? Very uncalled for.

What's the point of having the wedding scene when Bill never existed in the first 6 movies? I agree with HT_HSU, I'm glad it's there, but it seems absurd that all of a sudden the Weasley's have a new son.
My wife and I were so annoyed at the Half Blood Prince because we had read the book again right before seeing the movie. We're not opening the Deathly Hallows book again until well after both movies are released in hopes that we forget most of the story lines.

Yeah it makes sense. I could understand them shortening it if they did that with the previous teaser posters, but I'm just really not liking it. Or maybe they decided to do the HP7 because it technically is 2 movies with 2 different dates and they felt it would be too much wording.

I liked them all, although I found the second one was the hardest for me to get through. My sister-in-law was having trouble getting through them, so she started reading the book and then right after she'd watch that movie and she said that helped her stay interested because she could see all of the things from the books that were missing in the movie. I think she's on PoA right now. And now she's trying to convince BigAl_PT to read them.

Pretty sure that's not in the book. I'll get back to you next week when I get to DH. On GoF right now.
And I read all the books before their movies. :D I remember being in the 6th grade and getting the Scholastic weekly thing (that I still have somewhere) announcing the cast of the Trio and was SOOOO excited. That's my earliest HP memory, dont remember exactly when I read the first 3 books though (4 on I pre-ordered and morning release party or midnight release)

My guess is right after Ron comes back to them, and right before the meet with Xenophilius Lovegood, as right after that they learn the tale of the 3 brothers.
Alternatively, if they spend MORE time on the battle, they could end the first one after they've been captured and are in Malfoy's Manor, as it would add drama to end it on a cliffhanger.

If you read all the books you will see that they put a lot in the movies that are not in the books. Parts of GoF infuriated me the way they changed everything around. But I guess they need to add things for cinematics, which I don't really get because as I read J.K.'s books they always play out like a movie in my head (before the movies were even made, that is).
That part with Voldemort looks cool but yeah, not exactly in the books.
OMG I saw those on FB when you posted them and they totally overages them. Ginny is the only one that looks a believable 36. Especially since wizards supposedly live a very long time, no need to make them look THAT old. Geez.
I heard first they were going to split it where the snatchers get them, but recently read that they changed it to split it at a very emotional point. My guess is after one of the deaths, without spoiling... perhaps one of the creatures and not actual people. :shrugs:

It took zero thinking and that's how I like it. I'm also no English professor so the grammatical errors had absolutely no effect on me. I caught some of the errors while reading and I admit there were some passages I had to re-read a few times to understand what she was saying due to sentence structure; but I hesitate to put the blame completely on SM. I think Little Brown deserves a larger portion of the criticism seeing as how they let it get published like that....isn't that what editors are for???? That being said, none of the mistakes were enough to distract me from the story to the point of not liking it.
I agree with HHGFG, if they'd had just come out and said that the movie wasn't finished yet (even if they were lying about it) it wouldn't have been such a big deal because the fans would have wanted them to take the time to get it right. But saying it's ready, but we've already had a big money-making hit this year in Dark Knight so we're going to hold off to bring in the HP money later in anticipation for the revenu lost because of the writers' strike (which is what I heard) was a stupid thing to say.

Honestly, I dont think people would be as pissed if they didnt insist on comparing SM to JKR. Twilight is nowhere near on the same level as HP. Just look at the fan bases. HP is....well basically everyone. Twilight is mostly teens/moms.
It's been so long since I read twilight so I cant say if I noticed or had issues reading it.

Yea, definitely need to blame the editors. Maybe not the passive voice but definitely the sentence structure. That's what they're there for.
And yep. that's exactly it. It was saying to the fans "well we know you're going to see it anyway and make us loads and loads of money so we want that money next year since the rest of our films arent going to make us enough money."

Trailer definitely looks great, but I was a little bummed by that bit at the end that noted it would be in 3D. I'm sort of tired of 3D already, and from what I recall, HBP got less-than-stellar marks when it came to the 3D bits.
I'm definitely looking forward to all the Rickman we're going to get, but I was really disappointed to find out that Jared Harris wasn't cast as Aberforth. How perfect would that have been? Part of me hopes he was offered but turned it down, because if he wasn't even in the conversation, then some casting director somewhere missed a really cool opportunity to bring the films home in a very meta fashion.
Oh, and what's your costume, HHGF? I tried a Hagrid once, but being about two feet shy of eight foot, I looked more like a lost and unusually disheveled Zach Galifianakis. That was my first and last attempt at an HP costume.

I keep checking for the advance ticket sales to start. I would think it would be soon, especially with October just a week away.
They really don't do much at the theater I go to other then have it showing in like almost all of the 24 theaters that night. It is fun though as everyone comes dressed up (I sport a Gryffindo shirt but need to get to Universal and get me an official wand for HP7!!) and it makes for a great atmosphere! Lots of people bring games and it usually provides an opportunity to see other people I have worked with in the past and see what they are up to now a days.

I know what you mean. I don't want to miss a thing. Good thing they tell everyone to show up 30 minutes before the movie starts to get all the ordering of the food out of the way. By the time the previews are over, you are either getting through dessert or done with it. You pay a little more but it's worth it.

I am really liking these new trailers they have put out for this film. The first trailers seem to have scenes from both part 1 and 2. These new dedicated part 1 trailers are simply amazing. I am expecting so much especially after reading the book. I am sort of glad they are not going to cram everything into one movie.

Well, I enjoyed the movie very much. There were only a few things that I would have liked to have seen added to the movie. To start off with, I would have like for the scene where the Dursleys left left the house to have a little more detail. I all the other movies people saw how Big D (lol) treated Harry. It would have been nice for them to add the final dialogue between them. Next, I would have like to have seen a flashback of of when Kreatcher or however you spell it had to go with you know who to test if the horcrux was safe. Finally I would have like to see Harry put Lupin in his place when he was thinking about leaving Tonks. There is so much that they could have added but I understand they have fit it within the first part 1. The main stuff was pretty much there. They changed a few things but I believe it's better for those who haven't read the books. I was pretty satisfied and will be seeing it again tomorrow.

I agree about the beginning. I loved that scene in the book since it showed that Dudley was actually worried for his cousin and had grown a little. With Kreacher I wish they'd have given him the fake locket to show how much he changed and how he grew to respect them. Plus the payout in the Final Battle of Kreacher leading all the house elves from the kitchen with the locket.
I'm actually not surprised they cut the Harry/Lupin scene since majority of the Lupin/Tonks relationship had been cut from previous films. Would have loved it, but I understand why they cut it.
The only things I wish they had included were the sign at the Potter's house in Godric's Hollow & Potterwatch since it showed that there were other wizards in the world who supported Harry.
OH! And they should have included the letter Harry finds in Sirius' room from his Mother, since that has a payoff in one of Snape's memories.
Overall, I loved it and think it did a really good job with telling all the important parts of the story. All things that needed to be included were.

Those are very good points. I wish they would have included those as well. Another thing I must say is poor Doby. Out of all the other movies that they cut him out of, it was nice to see him get his moment to shine.
This means that the next movie is going to be so action packed it is even going to make the Potter haters think twice about dissing it and saying it is boring.

I was tearing up as soon as Dobby showed up with Kreacher in the beginning. And again as soon as he showed up in the dungeon. Which escalated into full on crying.
Ohhh Potter haters are the worst. If they havent even read the books, they're not allowed to have an opinion. That's what I say.

Today we will be going again to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, and look for the little details that we missed from seeing it for the first time on opening night. Overall, the movie was very good. It was action packed and contained most of the important parts from the book. However, if you haven't read the books, you will not understand what is going on and probably will be lost and bored. I think the movie had a very different feel to it then the other HP movies, there were alot of silent parts where there wasn't music playing in the background, and it was just performances by the actors. I really appreciated that because the book is all about the relationships between the 3 main characters. I really enjoyed the movie, but I also felt like the movie sort of lacked emotions at some of the most important parts. When Harry was reading the section of the paper written by Elphias Doge about Dumbledore, I felt like the movie didn't capture the sadness Harry felt about the death of the headmaster. Also, the part when Rufus Scrimgeour came to deliver Dumbledore's will, and Harry's conversation with him was filled with emotions, but it was missing from the movie. I really hope they capture the strong emotions from the story in the next movie, and not too focused on just the action/war part.
As for the HP haters, I just wish they can be open minded and give this story a chance. Don't judge the story with just the movies because the books are 100 times better!

I went and saw it this afternoon. I thought it was really well done. I have to disagree with Shabea001 about being lost if you haven't read the books. I think there was enough information provided to be able to follow the storyline without having to read the books. I have read all the books several times, but my sister has not. She has seen all the movies and has enjoyed.
Anyway. . . now I am really looking forward to Part 2.

I have seen the movie. I thought it was a bit lost. but my daughter said it followed the books well. even though i did not enjoy it as much as the other movies i am looking forward to seeing the next part. It was really sad about dobby. usually in the movies you have someone whispering or be a distraction but today everyone was tuned in to the movie. so that must say something about how people enjoyed it.

Saw the midnight premiere and had a great time! There were lots of great scenes and I thought it was adapted very very well. My only real gripe is that it doesn't really work as a stand alone film because its only half of the story and you really have to have read the book to know what's going on. But I am very happy with what the did with it. I love the deathly hallows animated sequence and the chase at the beginning and the Ministry scene. Okay I loved the whole thing. But Part 2 is going to be INSANE!!!

This one was for the readers. I think that this was my FAVORITE adaption of the books so far, because I loved seeing all this stuff come to life, but I don't know if it would've been satsifying if I didn't know the story. I think they INTENTIONALLY went very "by the book" for this one because the ending of the second one is changed dramatically. (In the trailer it shows Voldemort and Harry clashing, alone, on the top of the castle, while in the book it's surrounded by everyone in the Great Hall. Also, the movie added the "Why do you live" "because I have something to live for" bit.)
It was the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Harry Potter series. If you have Half BLood Prince as the first, and this as the second, it's shaping up to be quite an awesome trilogy.
It was awesome, and what other franchise out there has been able to do 8 movies at this level of quality? What an amazing ride it's been, and we're almost to the end.

I agree. The movie adaptation was FAR better!
I was more sad about Hedwig  than Dobby.
I was happy when Harry let Hedwig go b/c I thought they'd take it out, but I was wrong :cry:I literally cried when Dobby died but I'm silly emotional like that!
I have no idea how they are going to explain how the sword got there since Phineas Nigellus (not sure on spelling) wasn't introduced. Maybe they'll say it was Aberforth but I dunno
I don't like how he pronounced accio as ack-e-o, that annoyed me a lot.
I liked how Dobby helped Kreacher get Mundungus but I don't like how they didn't show how being kind to him changed how he was. Also hate that it took them this long to introduce Mundungus and Bill Weasley. Also hate how they didn't use polyjuice potion in Godric's Hollow and that it wore off so quick in the ministry (from Garet). Also, don't like the adaptation of how they received their items from Dumbledore's will. Also, they didn't say Ron's name when Hermione told Harry about his wand, yet it is still the reason Ron found his way back. Also, I see how they try to explain that saying "Voldemort" will bring snatchers. I also dislike how they don't explain how using someone else's wand won't produce the same performance as using your own wand. It seems like they tried to show it when Ron gave the wand to Harry, but I don't think that came across at all.
Garet made a good point that he was disappointed that they didn't show that Voldemort was at the window before they apparated out of Bathilda Bagshot's house. He is also disappointed in the Lovegood's house and the lack of strange objects and moving magic in the picture (ex the press working)
On another note, I noticed that when Harry went into the lake to retrieve the wand that he went in with his glasses. But when he got out they were laying there as if he took them off before hand.
There's a lot more but we are tired!

Ok, so I saw it twice - at Midnight and Friday night. Loved it!! I thought they did a good job adapting it from the book but keeping up with the book for the majority of the time.
My favorite changes - Hermione removing her parents memories. This to me was one of the most touching and best changes. In the book she doesn't seem as upset or it isn't coveyed as well to me, but this really showed how she had to do something really hard to protect them. Next was Hedwig's death. I was devastated in the book when she died in the cage. Having him let her go and then coming to save him and dying that way made it more of a "honorable" death then just being stuck in the cage and being hit by a curse.
Bits that were left out - Lupin and Harry. I am ok with it not being there, only because I don't feel it would have worked as well in the movie and only would have dragged it out. I felt that the time spent at Grimwald Place wasn't really explained well enough, you couldn't tell how long they had been there and what they were doing (playing piano and reading, didn't explain they were actually going to the Ministry). And Kreacher building his relationship with Harry and Ron and Hermione could have been a bit better. Godric's Hallow - definitely needed the statue and the sign at Harry's old house to show how his parents were remembered, I am glad they didn't do the polyjuice potion as that would have taken away from the moment in the cemetery.
Overall I felt they did a good adaption of the book and making it fit into the movie. The few changes they made worked and didn't seem out of place. Granted we still have Part 2 to go - and I was VERY disappointed they did not show a pre-view at the end of the film for Part 2! They really should have to get everyone even more excited and shown a few new clips!

I honestly didn't even think of that until I heard it mentioned on the Mugglecast. I wasn't expecting one so I'm not disappointed in it.
Okay, one thing I really didn't like at all. The moment in the Harry/Hermione dance scene where it seemed like they were going to kiss.

I saw it at midnight Friday with some friends. I thought it was good...definitely intense! The part that really creeped me out was the scene in Godric's Hollow with Bathilda/Nagini. I forgot about that part of the book (I read DH right after it came out and am rereading it now...only got to the part where they just got into the Ministry of Magic).
I also cried during Dobby's death. It's funny because when I read the book the first time I cried when Hedwig died but it didn't really bother me in the movie. Maybe because it just happened so fast. But Dobby was just so sad. I think part of what did it for me too was what he was saying about being with friends. I am such a sap...On a lighter note, I did enjoy Dobby's line about not wanting to kill just maim or seriously injure. haha!

I thought this movie was really intense from start to end and very well done. I'm glad that they stretched it out to two movies because otherwise we wouldn't have seen half the stuff addressed in the book. I really hated how they tricked us into thinking that Hedwig was going to be ok too! The Dobby scene was definitely a tear jerker.
Things that didn't make it, but would have been cool to see:
Harry saying his final good-bye to the Dursley's - I can't believe they left out the handshake with Dudley!
The Memorial in front of the Potter's house at Godric's Hollow - Why, why, why did they leave this part out? It was such a cool part of the book and they already had a scene of them standing in front of the wrecked house!
Percy being a jerk to his family when the Minister delivers Dumbledore's possessions at the Burrow - I really hope that he doesn't just popup for no good reason in the final battle, otherwise it'll look odd.

I know for a fact that Percy is in part 2 so, who knows if they'll do any explaining before he shows up to make it more emotional (that was always another favourite part of the book. I never seemed to hate Percy as much as everyone else does)
And apparently there was more to the scene with the Dursley, but it was cut (:cross: that it'll be included in the deleted scenes) Same with Krum at the Wedding. :(

Also, Scabior was nice ;)

I like your tastes ;-) I find it hilarious how many of us love Scabior  I was talking about the movie with one of my twitter friends and at some point she ask "....did you think that Snatcher was hot?" I was very happen to find that people agreed.
Here's the pie chart she made about it  (http://cheezburger.com/jkf358/lolz/View/4194585344)

I saw the movie on Sunday and of course i have been a Harry Potter fan since the book first came out when i was about 10. I LOVE all the books and the movies have been really good as well. I am glad that the separated this movie into two books so they are able to incorporate everything into them. Even though i knew it was going to happen, the part with Hedwig made me cry and the part with Dobby made me sob . Overall i though it was a great movie and i can't wait for the second part even though that will be the end to it :(.

It is pretty funny. There's a Scabior fan page on facebook and every time I look at it it has nearly 100 more fans than the last time.

It is nice they made this film into two parts. Some of the other films left out a bit from the books.

A bit? That's an understatement.
Seriously, they could have starting making two part films from 4 on. (I wouldn't have complained)
The amount of stuff left out is crazy.

I was disappointed in this film, though, to be fair, I felt book seven was weak altogether. I mean, the pacing was so wonky. We were just tossed into the action--and by "action" I mean a lot of repetitive acts of cat and mouse. That said, it comes to no surprise that I found the anti-climactic first half of an already tedious book excruciatingly boring. And seriously... how is it that they could squeeze in a dance scene but completely gloss over Mad Eye's death. On a high note, I enjoyed the Malfoy manner scenes and The Three Brothers tale was done pretty remarkably.

See, book 7 is my favourite, since it's the most emotional to me (and passed that I can't really explain why)
I've given up asking why they can add one ridiculous scene but not keep in one good scene from the books.

Haha, you mean like burning the Weasley house while dipping out on Dumbledore's funeral? I thought the seventh book just could have been a lot more emotional. The only characters who died we either predictable or just unnecessary. I found none of it jarring. Now if they had knocked off Hagrid, that would have made some impact.

Exactly. That scene still ticks me off every time I see it. HBP was a disaster of an adaptation. As an editorial (http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/editorials/edit-ladylupin.shtml) I read stated, the HBP movie made the important story take a backseat to the teenage romance.
I'm pretty sure Dobby dying was not predictable. I remember before the book came out, mugglenet wrote a "Who will die in Book 7" and Dobby was listed as 0% that he'd die. And I'd say Hedwig & Dobby had pretty big impact. I still cry each time I read the book and get to those scenes
(And if you can't tell, I'm a bit of a mugglenet fangirl  )

See, while I didn't see Dobby and Hedwig's deaths as predicable I did see it as cheap. Why not surprise us with an impact using characters with more purpose? And no, I don't count Fred either. He was a cop-out :p

Well Hedwig was a sign of Harry's childhood and with her death the end of that. Although now with her different movie death, I do find her book death pretty lame.
 Don't remind me about Fred  I was a mess when I read that the first time (and each other time & as was as the wizard rock song about him :look:)
Besides Hagrid, who'd you have killed off?

Eh, George and Fred weren't anything like real identical twins--just a pair of stock-character cliches. They had no individual personalities so without one you literally still have the same character remaining. What's to miss? I really wanted one of the main three to die (or kid to die, for that matter). Ron and/or Hermione would have been good. Both of them stopped character development after the second book or so, making them really one-note and annoying throughout the rest of the story. I'd have liked them to get rid of Nevil too.

I really liked the movie.
I especially liked how they told the story of the deathly hallows.
It was pretty cool
