Thinking on that, you could be right there. Most are set in Europe or elsewhere from the scenery.

Does anybody know if they are planning on having the premiere here in NOLA? I was fortunate enough to attend the premiere of the Hunchback of Notre Dame when it premiered here in the Superdome. It'd be awesome if I were able to see this one too!

That would be so perfect for the setting and everything.

I also think this is the first totally original princess (unless you count Kida.) Speaking of Kida, I really, really, REALLY wish that Disney would make more 2D animated movies in the style of Atlantis.

I too and so excited to see the return on hand drawn animation. It is true Disney and where they shine. Nothing on CG stuff, but it never has the fluidity, movement and emotion that hand drawn has for me.

From TalkDisney.com
The exciting news for local movie-goers is that Disney has finally announced at least part of its big plans for unveiling the animated New Orleans-set fairy tale "The Princess and the Frog." The disappointing news, however, is that -- to this point, anyway -- if you want to see the movie early it would appear that you're going to have to leave town to do it.
Of course, the often-secretive House of Mouse might not be finished with its announcements, -- such as, perhaps something pegged to November's Disney princess exhibit at the New Orleans Museum of Art? -- so hold off on the gris-gris for now. Instead, take a deep breath and have a peek at the newest trailer for the movie, below.
Disney had previously announced that the movie would open two and a half weeks earlier in New York and Los Angeles than in the rest of the country, on Nov. 25 as opposed to Dec. 11. Now we know why.
In a news release delivered to media outlets this week -- nestled in a gift basket of traditional New Orleans goodies such as pralines, beignet mix and French Market coffee -- Disney officials announced that the New York and L.A. screenings will be part of a huge celebration that will see the studio swing open its Burbank, Calif., gates to the public -- a first -- for several daily screenings of the movie followed by "The Ultimate Disney Experience" from Nov. 25 to Dec. 13.
A similar event wil be held at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre on the same dates.
The events will include gatherings of all nine of the Disney princesses -- including Princess Tiana from the "Princess and the Frog" -- as well as bayou-themed games, movie archives, how-to presentations from Disney animators, studio tours (for L.A. guests) and more, according to officials.
Tickets went on sale earlier this week.

Dreams Come True
Art of the Classic Fairy Tales from the Walt Disney Studio
(organized by NOMA) (EWF Galleries)
http://www.noma.org/images/frog.jpg
Dreams Come True showcases original artwork from legendary Disney animated films, including Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, and will feature a children's section celebrating Disney's connections with jazz music and the Crescent City. The artworks, on loan from the Walt Disney Studio Animation Research Library, will be accompanied by film clips to demonstrate how individual sketches and paintings lead to a finished celluloid masterpiece. Organized by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library and the New Orleans Museum of Art, this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition, which cannot be seen anywhere else, is set to coincide with the premier of Disney's upcoming animated feature, The Princess and the Frog, set in New Orleans during the 1920s Jazz Age.

"Cajun" really isn't as fish heavy as most people think. A lot of the out-of-state "Cajun" restaurants would have you think that, though. But I guess it also depends on what you consider "fish" as opposed to "seafood" in general. A lot of our dishes include seafood such as crawfish, oyseters, shrimp, crabs, blue crabs, soft-shell crabs etc; but I don't really consider any of that as "fish." The only fish I really eat is catfish and the ocassional tilapia or trout, which I think pretty much every state has, right?
Jambalaya is mostly chicken, sausge and/or andoullie, but there is also usually shrimp in it too. When I make I don't put shrimp though, because the hubby's not a big fan of seafood; but I do perfer it with shrimp.
Gumbo can wo either way. There's seafood gumbo which usually has shrimp, oysters (:puke:) and there's chicken in sausage/andoullie gumbo :yum: (my favorite!)
Some other good Cajun dishes to try that are not really "fish" dishes, are Crawfish Et Tu Fait :yum: :yum: :yum: and Crawfish Bisuque, and then there's just you good ol' fashioned Crawfish Boil!!! Whoot can't wait for Crawfish season, I'm making myself hungry.
BTW, My dad has a killer recipe for Jambalaya Po-boys, ahich I highly recommend!
Disneyhead's got the right idea! That's definitely the way to go when you're in town!

I went about a month before Katrina came through, and while Bourbon Street smelled of something awful... I truly did love the energy and culture of the city.
To walk down a street and hear amazing a capella singers, bands and even a makeshift "show" with two cajuns, an accordian, harmonica and some witty banter. It was like nowhere I have ever been before that's for sure. :) Hope they capture all that in the film.

Yeah, that was a problem back in the day. Since Katrina however, the city hired a new waste-management company that has kept the Quarter very pretty. In fact the current Mayor (who thatnkfully is about to end his term) was trying to get rid of what he called the "Disney-like cleaning service" because of the cost. I think the powers-that-be need to keep splurging on the cleaning because the city has never looked/smelled better, which helps with tourism and ultimately that's where NO gets most of its income.

"Fish" isn't really a requirement of Cajun/Creole food at all. Incidentally, New Orleans is more Creole than Cajun...Cajun is more southwest of New Orleans. But I digress...
There are many fish dishes because its so plentiful out here, but you definitely don't need fish to enjoy a good New Orleans/south Louisiana meal. By fish, do you mean ALL seafood or just actual fish?

If you like music and food, then you need to make it down here in the spring to French Quarter Fest. It's like the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival but with a greater local feel to it. It's spread all over the French Quarter and, best of all, it's free! You just have to pay for food and drinks. But you can hear some EXCELLENT music at no charge. Gospel, zydeco, swamp pop, jazz, big band, classical, etc...

Yeah, I have a relative who's gone out there for food and wine and he said the NO booth is pretty authentic, so I feel a little better about it. I usually have a problem with out-of-towners trying to do Cajun or Creole cooking, cause it usually sucks. :puke:
My parents were in TN a few weeks ago and ate dinner at Ruth's Chris out there and a women at a nearby table sent her gumbo back saying that if she'd have made something that tasted like that, she'd throw it out. I'm willing to bet she was thrown off by that rare thing we use here called "spices" because Ruth's Chris is pretty authentic too (so I don't think it was them that had it wrong ) I swear, if I see another out-of-state place burn something and throw on a butt-load of salt thinking that's what Cajun/Creole food is, I'm going to go postal on someone.

OK, I'm only going to say this once people so pay attention:
Never, EVER order anything with Crawfish in it if it's not spring. Crawfish season pretty much coincides with the Lent season through Easter and a little after that. Outside of those few months, any crawfish you get has more than likely been frozen :puke: Frozen crawfish = :puke:

I loved it, but have some serious beef with Dr. Facilier. It didn't seem like he was used very effectively. He seemed rushed and I didn't think the character was built up as well as past villains. I went into the movie expecting him to be the voodoo version of Jafar, but left feeling like they totally dropped the ball. His demise felt rushed and I would have preferred to see him use some more black magic in their encounter at the end rather than just being dragged away so easily. I was definitely expecting some sort of transformation. This movie left me wanting more from Dr. Facilier, which isn't good considering I really don't want to see The Princess and the Frog II. A backstory would have been nice. I love the idea of the character, but he could have been so much better. I'd put him just above Captain Hook and just below Hades.
On the other hand, Naveen was the best Prince we've ever seen. I loved how he was more than one sided and I especially loved how he wasn't predictable like most other characters in Disney films.
As far as the music I've heard many people say it isn't as memorable as other Disney songs. I think it is an unfair comparison. Those other songs we have been hearing for years and years. I think the music here was perfectly done. This is one of the only movies where we know exactly where the action is taking place and it would just feel wrong using music that wasn't realistic to New Orleans. Once you listen to the songs a few more times they become catchier and catchier. Friends On The Other Sides and When Were Human are already awesome, but give the other songs some time.
Now, as far as all the cries of racism on the IMDB forums, they seriously need to get a life. The only people that are going to be offended by this film are people going into the theatre and wanting to find something to complain about. Everything was done pretty tastefully. A lot of the complainers are saying it was racist of Disney to not have Naveen as a black man, but I know if he had been a black man the same people would be complaining and saying "So a black woman HAS to be with a black man? All the other Princes were white, why is it wrong for a black woman to be with someone that looks like one of them?" My point is, don't believe the complainers since they will complain about anything. I've read of people trying to persuade others into not seeing, which is a shame since it is an amazing movie and shouldn't offend anyone.
BTW, remember back in The Lion King when Timon said stars were fireflies. Hmmm...

:agree: on pretty much everything.
I truly loved this movie and reminded me once again why I adore hand-drawn so much. The animation was just beautiful! Tiana is now one of my favorite princesses. What a voice! And she is a great princess for little girls to look up to for sure. Naveen was a great prince, so true. And Facilier was so awesome, but I agree I wanted more of him too. His Friends on the Other Side sequence was freggin wicked!
I had listened to the soundtrack about 3 times prior to seeing it, so I already loved it and find myself singing it all day today.
Highly recommend it. Well done Disney, well done.

Pretty decent movie, took a friends niece for her birthday to see it. I dont know how much she liked it, but I was glad to see a regular animated movie from Disney after so long. Loved the setting and all the Cajun/bayou New Orleans feel to it, but the story was really lacking to me...but worth seeing.

Saw this one opening night with my wife. I thought the half of the movie where the characters are human where excellent, if not inspired! The parts where the characters are frogs were... not. At all.
Animation was absolutely, no-questions-asked GORGEOUS however! This is probably the most lush, beautiful 2D animation I've ever seen. Some of the soundtrack was really good, some of it was really lacking. I hate that the romance song is sung by that repulsive insect.
Totally hated the bug character, I felt like he brought down the whole movie and was one of the most unlikable sidekick animals in Disney history, if not THE most. Facilier was pretty cool, and I loved that he was voiced by The Arbiter from Halo!
Only a $25 million dollar opening weekend though... Disney has to see that as a big disappointment... :(

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it!!!!!!! This just became my new favorite Disney animated film, over-throwing Beauty and the Beast!!!! I loved the music (we had at least one kid dancing in front of their seat at one point along with some off-beat clapping )! Definitely going to be buying this sound-track!!!! There was only one mis-pronunciation (which I can excuse since the rest of the film was so KA) and my husband pointed out a bit of an error in the city's layout. I didn't notice it, but he swears up and down by it (guess we'll just have to go see it again) ;-) I love what they did with Ray's story-line and the line about Shreveport had just about the whole theater in stiches (although I'm sure it doesn't have the same effect in other parts of the country). Just about the entire theater erupted into applause when the ending credits began to roll. I can't say enough good things about this film. It was just amazing! They even nailed St. Louis Cathedral both on the outside and the inside.

Just got back from seeing this with HT and her husband. I'm going to write a full-on review of it for the website I work for, but to sum it up, I thought it was fantastic. Disney hasn't done anything this good since Beauty and the Beast. This should prove once and for all, to all those studios who think a computer is the trick to making a good movie, it ain't the tools -- it's the talent.

I think its funny regardless. In Orlando it had everyone cracking up.
Is it pronounced New Or-lans or New Or-leans? My parents lived in New Orleans awhile before I was born and said locals say New Or-lans, but most others say Or-lean. Yeah, we pronounce it New Or-lans; but that's really just people in the city and in the suburbs of the city. My SIL who grew up about an hour out side of the city says New Or-leans (which drives me crazy)! And then you have the people who add a third syllable "New Or-lee-ans"

So I finally saw this movie. It was cute but vastly overrated. I want to first stress that this was a good movie and the animation was absolutely gorgeous! I wouldn't go as far as to say this was the best Disney animated feature since Lion King though (which is what many of the critics on RT suggested). Personally I thought Hunchback and Mulan were superior. Naveen and Tiana were adorable and I loved their characters (Naveen really reminded me of Puss in Boots when he was in frog-form). Seeing Madam Leota was cool also and villain's shadow posse was extremely eerie. That said, I really thought the pacing was to rushed and a lot of the characters, the villain most especially, were flat. I really wanted to like Louis too but they wasted him. He didn't add anything to the movie and really stretched my suspension of disbelief. I mean, here you have a playboy prince and working girl entrapped in frog bodies by a hoodoo doctor, a voodoo medicine woman, a firefly that can be heard only by those in animal form, and some trumpet playing jazz alligator as the spotlight entertainment of a successful restaurant? It didn't bother me that much but I think the film would have been just fine without him and should have instead used that time fleshing out the other characters. The real stinker for me was that, short of "Going down to the Bayou," the soundtrack was instantly forgettable. As a kid I saw movies like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin and went home singing a good lot of the songs but on the drive home I realized I only could recall a single song from this one, vaguely at that, and that was only because I had heard it previously when passing the Tiana showboat at WDW. Like I said, this was a certainly a film worthy of the Disney pantheon, but, no pun intended, it had a lot of bugs in it. Glad to see Disney finally getting back in its element :)

Ne-Yo's Disney Song Nominated For Oscar
12/21/2009 1:25 PM ET
(RTTNews) - Ne-Yo's theme song to the hit Disney film, The Princess and the Frog, has been nominated for an Academy Award in the best original song category.
The song, "Never Knew I Needed," is one of four songs from the movie to be given a nod for the award. Sixty-three songs, in total, have been nominated. A full list of nominations will be revealed at a later date.
The Princess and the Frog, Disney's first traditionally animated film since 2004's Home on the Range, hit theatres earlier this month, garnering a positive response from both audiences and critics.
The music for the rest of the soundtrack was penned by Academy-Award winner Randy Newman, who is perhaps most famous among Disney fans for his Toy Story theme song, "You've Got a Friend in Me."
