What does everybody think of this new ride?

I love this ride/game! I have only been able to do it once though, due to lines :(

I've only been fortunate to have ridden this 3 times. 1st time was for CM Preview, 2nd time I had gotten to DHS early with family to get FP's, and the 3rd time was that same day and we just happened to have found extra TSM FP's. I was lucky that day.

I'd put it somewhere between Amazing and Eh. It's not the greatest, but when you compare it to everything else they've been putting out lately...

I have ridden both the one in DCA and DHS, I prefer the queue in DHS, but think they both have great entertainment value!

I really enjoy it, even though I'm terrible. I'm hoping that the novelty wears off a little by the next time I go (whenever that may be) just so that the lines are way too long. Fast pass whenever possible!

I loved this ride! Definitely need a fast pass though. I am curious about the video game version that is coming out later this year.

My trick is to pace myself all the way through and then just go crazy on the bonus stage!! I have gotten them like all to 5,000 once!!

I actually set the high score for the day around 11AM one morning. Rode again later in the day and I had dropped to number 3. It's pretty cool when you get it. You're score is highlighted in yellow with a gold star next to it.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2n8dd1d.jpg

My highest score ever was around 315,000. The funny thing is I didn't even make Top 3 for that day. Must have been good competition.

My wife and I were able to get some of the bonuses like the rainbow balloons and the robot. When you work as a team you can really score some points.

I really enjoy this ride, but I think it's ridiculous when I see the standby line has like a 120 minute wait. Maybe I'm spoiled by fastpass, but I can't imagine ever waiting that long for any ride.

07-04-2009, 12:03 PM
I just rode this for the first time last week and absolutely loved it! Even though it was a 40 minute wait we got right back in line to go again!

Oh and I loved the Mr. Potato Head part of the line! He talked to my Aunt and the ear thing is so awesome!

I def "Eh"ed this one. The ride is fine for what it is, but the line really does damper one's experience when it's 120 minutes and full of screaming tots.

I have to agree.

I'm not really a big fan of the shooting rides... MIB is really the only one I really, really like.

I think using video screens is kind of a cop out.

I expected more.

YETI PINTRADER
07-05-2009, 06:59 AM
I think that using video screens was the only way they could have made that ride. Without that you could not have seen your projectiles, and cause large amounts of destruction. The line can be endless but at least it is well themed.

alicetwasbrillig
07-05-2009, 10:51 AM
If the line area wasn't so well themed I think I would have been more upsetf about using screens but they clearly did spend extra time on the theme of the line area so I'm okay with the screens ^_^

Love this ride, I ahve never seen a line go so fast on any attraction, We were there last Oct. Everyone Headed right for TSMWM as soon as the ropes dropped. We fast passed as soon as we got off and the fast pass was for over 2 hours later...

Loved the concept, felt let down having ridden. It's a bit same-y all the way through and din't leave me feeling "wow". Would have expected more between scenes and not so much reliance on graphics on screens.

I love the ride and technology. I always get excited seeing Buzz in 3-D! I hate the long line. This is one attraction that shouldn't have fast pass. It just doesn't benefit. I understand the complaints that would come in if this ride had no fast pass but it just makes the line a big mess.

oh also, my brother and some friend's did friendly bets, like, the winning pair gets a vinyl each, 3 teams, (3 pairs), the winning pair gets 2 vinyls, one for each, and 1 pair buys 1 vinyl and the other pair buys a vinyl. was pretty fun! :)

whomever gets the highest score (overall in teams) wins

They don't?!?! Wow, that's weird.

It's funny - we've never waited in Stand By in WDW, but when we went to DLR we did it every time the line was 30 minutes or less otherwise we did the single rider line. I really find that the lines go so much faster without Fast Pass. I think that might have been the better way to go!

09-07-2009, 04:41 PM
Yes it seems very strange to me. DCA doesn't really have the big attractions like DHS. Yet the standby is always alot shorter. I would have thought that the big rides like Tower of Terror, and Rockin Rollercoaster would draw more poeple away from one single ride and even out lines.

Yeah I wouldn't imagine that the WII game could possibly compare with the ride. However maybe if you surround yourself with board games and Buzz Lightyear dolls while playing the WII game you'll feel a little more like you're in the ride's atmosphere.

Before it opened they were talking about how the video screens made it easy to change the games out and they would even retheme it for the Holidays and different parts of the year. One example they gave was throwing snow balls instead of baseballs. I'm sure the look of the games would be different too, not just traded out ammunition.

The overlays sound cool, but the last thing they need right now is to increase demand for that ride. I'm guessing they'll do it when the standby line starts to consistently decrease to create a stir. Maybe after they open the next big attraction there, whatever and whenever that may be.

BigAl_PT
11-26-2009, 09:16 AM
I don't know, I think I would like to see a holiday overlay. I'm not sure if that would really increase demand anymore than is already there. People are already going to the park specifically for that ride. I think the same people would still be going.

I think this ride had too much hype. The queue line was awesome, but the ride was a little disappointing. When entering the room, it seemed as if it wasn't theme enough. The ride isn't worth waiting an hour or more.

Disney was genius creating this ride. It's extremely cost-efficient and simplistic with a broad enough target audience to exceed a two hour queue line almost daily. I never go on this ride unless I have to but still, I have to give them props for it.

The one at DLR is pretty cool. I wish there was more animatronics in the ride to couple with the video walls. I feel like I'm in Muppet Vision at times. I miss animatronic dark rides. I would've loved to see an animatronic woody or wheezy or rex or hamm inside the ride itself.

I love this ride, we were lucky enough to be there back before this first opened. So when disney was doing soft runs we were able to go on in 10 times in a row with hardly any wait.

Now i just hate the darn lines, at least we are able to ride it right away in the morning and fast pass it. I've been avg. 290 to 350, next time we go, i so want to break 400,000

I just love the inside, andy's bed, the toys and board games stacked up, the night time light, the hanging x-mas like lights, A++++ disney:thumbsup:

This ride is definitly amazing! We just got back from our first trip to DLR and how that ride operates during peak season without fastpass is beyond me. At WDW the queue line is more eye pleasing than DLR although I guess they could only do what they could with the space allowed. Usually we just get a fastpass at WDW and dont bother with the 90+ minute line. DLR was great with only about a 20 min wait but once the weekend hit it jumped to 60+min.

They did at one time. But single riders shared the same line as the fast pass line. So a lot of people went in the single rider line. So then it backed up all the fast pass people. It was a cluster crap, that way. It would be great if they could reconfigured it a better way to take single riders, because like you said there are usually several open cars.

BTW this was back when it first opened.

From Jim Hill Media...

Take – for example – Sunday’s “Toy Story 3 (http://disney.go.com/toystory/)” preview at Gotham Hall (http://www.gothamhallevents.com/). That's a great news, terrible news situation!
Great because a Toy Story 3 update will make the game even cooler as some of the scenes are a bit generic. So that's great they are going to take a great game/ride and make it even better.

The terrible news is because this will drive queue times up EVEN MORE as the TSM Vets that may have once passed it over will now be willing to wait all over again to try the updated game!

I wish DCA's Midway Mania would have a short line!

You're even luckier though cuz at least DCA's has no Fastpass! The line moves steadily there unlike DHS where you don't even know what season it will be outside once you finally get off.

Very true, but sometimes I wish I could get a fastpass for it just so I don't have to wait! I tend to think Disney is considering not using fastpass on any of the newer rides opening soon! Maybe they decided to test fastpass verse no fastpass on the two Midway Mania's to see which system would work best for the same ride?

I was told a while back that no new DLR rides would get FP, starting with Toy Story... that one proved true, but i dunno how accurate it is for the future or not.

pull the string out just past the "click" noise, this way you dont use as much energy because u do less FD (force*displacmetn)= more energy 4 u. i also do the, what i call, the crazy arm technice. my friend showed me it one time and it kinda hurts to do for a long time but you tighten up your whole arm untill it just starts to shake and then use ur engery with it to so it even faster. its easier to tap buttons like that but u can pull the string like that. sometimes it wont register as firing though :(

I like Buzz because the lines are so short usually... especially if you go during EMH... but we got stuck on it yesterday for a while and before that I had a gun that wasn't working right and only registering one of every four or five pushes as a shot... so it could definitely use some fixing up... which is why I think I like Toy Story Mania... its the same Toy Story esc theme and it's still a shooting game... but its not decrepit and falling apart...

10-09-2010, 06:44 PM
Although I must say TSM is a good attraction I was overall a lil disappointed as I thought being a new highlighted attraction it would have a lil more to it. I expected it to maybe incorporate more of a MIB or Buzz feel along with the spiderman 3d screen elements. In my eyes it was a step backwards in the technology by only using screens

VinylmationRawesome
10-10-2010, 03:19 PM
i agree Pinocchio, Toy Story Midway Mania, does need a little more to it than just screens, since the lines are way to long, i have a funny story to tell everyone:
one day in about beginning of August, me and my family went to HS, and at the end of the day, we decided to wait in Toy Story Midway Mania line, and the big Mr. Potato Head is at sort of the end of the stand-by line, and everyone always takes pictures by him, but we did not and he just stared at us the whole time :rofl:

Its pretty much just layout of the station and parts of the ride! The major difference is:

Walt Disney Worlds has a fastpass and single rider on top of the standby line while California Adventures only has a stand by! :worship: Thank you Disney for not fastpassing this attraction in California, the line moves so much faster! :)

We rode it last week for the first time and the wait said 50 minutes standby (at night) but in reality it was more like 30 minutes. The ride was AWESOME! So much better than I expected. And the cue was great--my DD loved pointing out all the different parts of toys and games. I love how interactive and fast-paced the ride was, and it was just long enough to feel like you got your money's worth. I walked off feeling exhilarated! I think it is definitely worth the wait, though I see no reason why anyone should have to wait for an hour or more. Soarin' on the other hand, seemed too short and not worth the long wait. We rode Fastpass for that one, and that was fine. I wouldn't stand in a long line to do that one again.

I'm completely blown away on how someone can get that high. I know there are certain tricks to each game and I know what they are and also that you need help from your teammate but I just don't get how someone can get such a high number. If you feel that way then you will never ride it. It's always 90+ during the day, best times to go on this is during magic hours. I don't mean that first sentense harshly, it just seems that way due to the non-toneness of text. Before we left to come home yesterday we waited about 90 minutes. I scored my highest of the trip at 303,400

You're right, I probably never will ride it (and I didn't take your post harshly :)). I just don't want to wait that long to ride it. I *may* have considered waiting 90 minutes if that was the wait time all day, but most of the time the wait was 150 to 180 minutes. There's no way I'm waiting 3 hours for that ride (or any ride, for that matter!) 90 minutes.. I'll consider it. We missed that opportunity though!!

I also didn't have as much fun at DHS as I used to, so I'm not even sure when we'll be back. I love ToT and Rockin' Roller Coaster, but the rest of the park was just kinda 'meh' to me this time. I don't know if it was because of the crowds or what, but I'd rather go to MK or EPCOT.

I was totally the same way during the holidays, magic hours for Midway are definitely the way to go especially if you do it later in the magic hour then its only about 20-30 minutes! :)

I loved this ride! The line is a killer though. I would have ridden over and over if I could. We had a fast pass and we got in that line which was also ridiculously long. We were way in the back when, luckily, a cast member asked for 2's and we got to cut everyone and get right on. I wasn't so great at this game but I still loved it. On Buzz's ride at Magic Kingdom though I maxed out my points and managed to get a picture of 999999 on my car. Galactic Hero right here lol wooo!

Yeah becuase no one goes to Disneyland and everyone's at Disney World :-p. Anyway, the best time to ride Toy Story is during magic hours AND at the very end of magic hours, like if EMH is till 1 am, go on line at like 12:45 and you'll get right on. Or you could be like my family where we did it 3 times during the course of 3 hours during magic hours plus once or twice during normal hours

Hey hey hey there! :tap: Everyone goes to Disneyland not California Adventures, which is where Midway Mania is! This is one of my favorite rides in Hollywood Studios. We've found a bit of a trick so we could get on there a few times a day without any wait (the lines, even in off-peak season, are crazy long.) We run right to that ride at opening and get a fast pass and then go on the ride. The fast pass at that point is already an hour or two later. We wait until the hour is up and get another fast pass for later in the day or night. It's worked great so far. I've gotten into the top 3 once but I never got close to that score again. I typically team up me and my daughter vs my wife just to be completely unfair but with so little to do in Hollywood Studios it's fun.

Awesome ride. We were able to go on 5 times on our last trip to Disney. Lines were not bad. FP first thing in the morning, wait in line for 15-20 minutes and you are on. Once the FP people start to return, the stand by line wait extends to 40 + minutes in no time at all. Too bad they don't have more attractions at HS.

I love this ride. I was lucky to win an AP Exclusive Fast Pass for my whole family to ride TM before it opened and as many times as we wanted. I believe we went on 4 or 5 times that day. After that I can't keep track on how many times I went on this ride.

We have Fastpass, but good luck getting one. They're all gone within two hours of rope drop (no idea how that happens). And the minimum wait for standby is never under an hour. It's infuriating.

So true. Within the first 20-30 minutes there's usually a pretty decent line just to GET a fastpass, because by then the standby is already approaching an hour. However, the queue was very well designed in that it has a decent amount of propping to look at along with the AA potato head to listen to, and as long as the line is 90 minutes or less, the entire wait is inside where it is a nice and cool in the A/C. A couple weekends ago a friend and I (who both can't stand waiting in line) decided to ride it standby even though we had a fastpass window opening in about an hour, simply because it was an easy way to get out of the 90+ degree heat.
