July is approaching fast and I think the clear series is next....

Who's getting these and does anybody know if they will be
blind boxed also?

That would make me crazy, I only want the pink one.
My guess is that they won't be :look:

Sledge

I can't seem to get a straight answer about the blindboxing. I was told by the previous product developer and several of the artists that they would NOT be blind boxed. However, I have heard from the new product developer that they would be blind boxed. I'm not exactly sure which to go by here. I don't understand why they would blind box a series like this, especially when it is going to be open ended. I also don't think this series has enough interest/demand to warrant blindboxing. I think that could be the worst thing they could do actually.

I'm going to DL on July 3rd and 4th. Does that mean Park #2 will be retired and all that will be there is the Clear Series? If so I will cry.

I doubt that they will sell out before them but if they do then yes. But I dont think there is a set date in July for the release so the clear series might not even be there by then. I agree with Sledge that it would be really stupid if they were blindboxed.

I think they are stupid anyway. I just want to get back and get a bunch more Park #2's. I would be really mad if it were the Clear Series when I got there because I have no interest in them at all.

Have any of the parks run out of Park #2 yet?
Hopefully there will be plenty for you to buy.
Clear series is scheduled for July but who knows when

Im really looking forward to Holiday and Cutesters but I do
want a pink clear one

I kind of like the clear series - although they're plain and simple (kind of like some of Randy Noble's latest designs!), I think they're fun...and the concept of being able to swap around body parts is what makes them redeemable in my book.

I agree with Sledge, though - blind boxing would be about the worst thing they could do for them. In fact, possibly dropping the price point down to say, $6.95 might give these Vinyls the boost they need to sell.

paaron46
06-22-2009, 04:24 PM
I like Vinyls because of the artwork and the Disney references. These have none of that. No artistic representation here at all.

I agree. These seem like they're more geared for kids to play with as toys rather than a "collectable."

Like wvugrrrl said, make them cheaper and don't blindbox them...that would suck. :nono:

Rainbow chaser? Mickey ears all over its body in
all the colors of the clear ones?

So that's what this set was for... to give everyone a break from spending even more money! :yikes: lol. jk

I think as an open-ended set, it can't possibly be blind boxed, but you never know. Personally, I might look for a couple colors here and there, but just for fun.

06-22-2009, 06:08 PM
I agree that this set really isn't that desirable, but I'll still get a few. I do wish they would lower the price point, even more so if there's no box. I hated having to pay the 9.95 for the blanks. Seriously, no art on the, no work put into printing them, no card and no nice box. Doesn't at all justify the same price point.

I wasn't crazy about them at first but
after the second set of pictures were posted, they
look a bit better and they sort of grew on me :bonk:

As a collector of Japanese designer vinyl toys, I actually have come to prefer clear vinyl releases. It really brings more attention to the figure itself.

I will catch flack here, I am sure, but 75% of these designs are awful IMO, and do not hold water to what's being released in Japan (non disney). The 25% I do like, I really like seeing as I grew up on Disneyland.

vinylg

downwithgnomes I completely agree, 100%.

I've gone on rants about the lack of detail and over all design quality of the current vinylmation series. Fortunately the future releases look like positive improvements, but Disney could learn a thing or two from what they are doing with the designs overseas or even at Kidrobot.

Anyone plan on getting these to use for Customs? I got some plans to put some of the Clear body parts onto the Blank figures and paint them up. That's all I'll say for now. Should be fun. :)

Sledge
06-23-2009, 11:10 PM
Neither do the blanks and they are still $10. :(

If these are in fact blindboxed I'll probably buy 1 and hope for the best. If they aren't I'll buy probably the three colors I want for my collection and then a few other colors to turn into customs. Definitely not buying a case if they offer them. Does anyone plan on buying a case of these though? Especially with a new series every single month for the rest of the year (except for possibly December)?

Well...what toys do you know of from "overseas"? To be honest, the site I go to; the Japanese toy collectors tend to look down on kid robot, lol. I only own like 2 kidrobot figures, but I have a guilty pleasure/secret in my small collection of Qee's...shhh! :-X

For what I like:
Urban Series 1 3", all but the "graffiti"
Urban series 1 9", robot and the Mummy (OMG the MUMMY! I WANT)
Park 1 3" and 9" are all pretty good, but not like i NEED all of them.
the needs would be ELP, Haunted Mansion 3" single and 9" set, yeti monorail, and chaser

The clears, yes I am planning on getting them. To mix and match body parts, also, for "customs" they look promising. I wanna do some "kaiju" (japanese monster) type customs. That doesn't mean making them monsters, just the way the painting style is on kaiju.

i collect 100%, 400%, and 1000% be@rbricks as well as a couple kubricks.. but i think the purpose for myself in collecting the Vinylmations is due to it's Disney reference (although i have been hunting for the Mickey x Be@rbrick for a little bit now)

as for the clear series.. although i don't really like the series, i'll be there to burn another hole in my wallet to collect the 9" set.. haha

I have some bearbricks (100 and 400%) and kubricks from a Japanese punk band called Balzac. i am actually in Japan right now for the rest of the sumer.

The 100% Mickey be@rbricks are easy to find and cheap. The 400% are around $100 or so.

Wow, how cool. If you're going to Disneyland Tokyo, could you please post some pics. Also, there's a rumor that Park 1 (yes Park 1) will be released in Disneyland Tokyo, could you confirm that with the CMs. There's has been some debate of this series being released at DLT in another thread. Some think that because this is the first time DLT is offering the product therefore they've called it Park 1, and in actuality Park 2 is being released to the Park. Someone did confirmed from DLParis that indeed Park 2 will be released in Paris. Thank you.

I have pics of Tokyo Disneyland on my face book. I should upload them somewhere people can see. Seeing as my friend and I spent 3 days in a row there and its a little outside of the city, I won't be going soon. If someone knows FOR SURE they will have vinylmation I will go myself buy some and see, but i need to know when they will get them. I highly doubt it would be the US park 1 versions.

I do like the idea of making a kaiju from the clear vinyls.

I only dabble in the overseas market of toys as they are very expensive or extremely limited. Michael Lau/Mindstyle designs are great so too are KAWS. I do frequent Toysrevil blog.

Which is where I found out about these Mickey Brand Halo (http://toysrevil.blogspot.com/search/label/mickeyhalo)

I'm a sucker for Qee's, Dunny's, Kubricks, etc...I just don't collect them as hardcore as Vinylmations.

Aren't they also marketing the clear ones more towards a much younger age group though? As opposed to serious collectors or artists? If they aren't aimed at the more serious collectors than they might cut the prices. They likely won't reduce the price but if they did I wouldn't be in a serious state of shock.

Sledge
07-04-2009, 10:50 PM
I was told they were being marketed more towards kids and they obviously aren't putting these in the same category as the others seeing as how these will be open ended. That's what really makes me doubt that they will be blind boxed, but I've heard conflicting things.

Mouseman74
07-05-2009, 02:04 AM
Ummmm, pin trading is also geared towards kids as well and the pins range from $6.95 to $14.95, so I really don't see them selling the clear ones for any lower price point then they do now. If they don't sell they will just discontinue making the clear versions.

I'd beg to differ. Most kids I see in the parks are only encouraged to pin trade by their parents. The parents are the ones that typically tell the kids what to and what not to trade. Drop in at DTD and see the pin-sharks. I'd guess the vast majority of pin sales go to adults. I mean we have official pin trading auctions for some pins worth hundreds of dollars.

If anything the ration of children to adults collecting vinyls are about the same if not less extreme than pins.

I don't know, I would say it is a fair mix. Since Disney introduced the box sets with the little pins, more kids have been trading. Yes, some encouraged by their parents, but others are the kids seeing other kids doing it and getting into it that way. Those mini boxes of pins cost like $25 at least for them to start and the lanyard is another $10.

I'm OK with the Blind Boxing concept if they (1) limit the series designs to 12 like the others, (2) retire the set when the next one comes out, and (3) have a chaser. If however its open-ended and mix and match body parts as you said, blind boxing would actually be a complete waste and do nothing but annoy me. I would not buy them.

I certainly hope so. I don't really remember the dates of past

Hope they are out by then.

Wow... Makes no sense to make these blind boxed. How many people will really care enough to buy the case just to get the chaser? If I had the money to buy a case (which I do not), I'd wait and spend it on Park 3 or another themed series like Muppets, not this.

Sounds like I'll be forced to ebay or Vbay here to get the couple that I wanted. Can't afford to charge a case of any Vinyls, let alone these clear ones, even if I sold the second half of the case. Shame. Disney makes things as hard as they possibly can sometimes.

I'm curious how the seller got this. The items location says NY which makes it even more strange. As far as I know these aren't on shelves yet.

It is incredibly dumb for these to be blindboxed and they are going to realize it very shortly. I was going to buy a few to make customs, but not knowing if I'm getting the ones I need has just turned me off from buying any. If I do buy any I'll be getting them off eBay, which I assume will be at a reasonable price considering the appeal these have. :bonk:

Poll time. See the top of the page and vote.

The scariest thing about these is there are going to be multiple series for these. Series #2 will have different head, body and arm colors, but what comes after that. Is Series #3 going to be more mixed up colors? I would have been fine if these weren't blindboxed, but the fact that they are is pretty irritating.

I suppose they could theoretically just keep cranking these out until they run out of colors. Leaving collectors everywhere trying to figure out if they're looking at the "pink" clear or the "rose" clear figure when they arrange them on the shelves.

On a more positive note, which colors are you guys wanting? These will be incredibly easy to trade as long as everyone isn't wanting the same colors (I'm guessing Pink and Black will be most popular). I would really like the Black, Blue and Light Blue since they are close to VinylNation colors.

I also wanted a Pink one for a custom, but since these are blindboxed and finding a Pink one is going to be more difficult, I'm probably not going to bother.

My plan was to rip the head off of the pink one, put it on a Blank body, and on the body paint a girl's face with her lips puckered to look like she is blowing a bubble gum bubble.

It would also have been cool to make a Balloon (Chaser) rip off with the head as a clear balloon. I'd like to see someone try it.

I like the idea of using some clear ones to make customs.

Other than that idea, I don't really feel like I must get my hands on any specific color. I will probably buy 2 or 3 just for fun, and maybe to trade for others.

I'm going to assume that, due to the apparent Chaser figure, that all boxes will be the same color or at least randomized colors.

Since these haven't been released yet anywhere, I would venture to say that they where probably acquired before being released to the public (i.e. possible cast or someone else with a connection). Many of the stores, such as NYC WOD, receive their supplies sometime during the week but may not push them out to the shelves until Friday/Saturday. This has happened before for NYC WOD where they received a shipment on a wednesday, but didn't release the items to the public until Friday/Saturday (i.e. Inventory, Pricing, etc before releasing). I would venture that Disneyland California and NYC WOD may already have these items in hand but have not released them to the public. Therefore, These individuals may have acquired these items in a way they shouldn't have. I have been wrong before and have seen things released without many knowing, even the cast members answering the phones, but we shall see. I would probably guess the release date is going to be sometime this week if these people already have them "In-Hand" as the auction says...Disney should have a little more control and better communication regarding their releases, and this goes way outside Vinylmation...

I've seen pins put out for sale before they were supposed to be at a particular location, then pulled back off when a CM in the know found out. Nothing could be done if any were sold before they were supposed to be. Possibly what happend here, they are probably within days of being released.

I'm not sure I believe that actually. I called three places in WDW and Disneyland and all of them said they would be in by the end of the month. How is it that these are on sale on Main Street but everyone I call is saying they will be available soon? I didn't call Disneyland's Main Street stores directly, but if they did have them, it seems like the other places would have known about it. The consider the fact that only two of them are on eBay. Just sounds really suspicious to me. Kind of like when I saw a Big Thunder Mountain on eBay a few days early and the response I got from the seller was "I have my ways." I'm guessing that is the case here, somehow having access to them and doing something they aren't supposed to be and claiming they are on sale, even though multiple phone calls says otherwise.

I'll keep my eye out for them and I'll keep calling, but like most of you, I really think Disney would put something on their AoD site about them when it is getting close.

Don't you just love it when you have to tell the whole Vinylmation story to the cast members who work in the stores that sell them? One day I asked the CM at the WOD information desk if any other stores had the Incredibles figure, so she checked the computer and said there were "no 9-inch figures of any type" in any of the stores. I pointed to the shelf behind her and said, I'm looking at several 9-inch Epcot figures right now. She snapped at me that if it does not show up on her computer, she does not have any way of knowing what is there then something about how the "buyer" of the merchandise had not entered into the computer .... bottom line: you really have to show up in person and look on the shelves yourself.

They are blind boxed unfortunately and you can buy them by the case. The case is white with a transparent Mickey on the front, but the 3" boxes inside of the case are all light green for some reason. For a second there I was hoping that the boxes would be the color of the figure inside, but that's not the case.

I called AoD today. Debbie is pretty good with knowing her Vinylmation and said she they still haven't heard when they would be getting them. If they were getting them in this week she would have known about it. So at least at WDW, looks like we won't be getting them this week.

Debbie's my favorite! She knows me by voice now, and has done me a ton of favors! Every time I go to DTD, I make sure I bring her a card, or some flowers as a thank-you for her work. She's definitely one of the hardest working CM's there - she gets stuck in an office all day taking phone orders, with "very little chance to make magic for the guests," as she told me. I'm just so appreciative that AOD DTD has such an "on the ball" employee!

It would be cool if the chaser had a strobe light that blinks when you hit the Mickey. That would make it special. In the description of the one on eBay, they say there are no artist cards ... maybe because there is no "art" to putting out clear colored figures? And is the material they are made of still considered "vinylish" ???? My 2 cents.

Not to sound rude, but didn't you know going into the purchase that they were clear? Were you expecting some artistic value to them? I dont see how you can be disappointed by them being clear when they are clearly advertised as such.

World of Disney at DTD has Clear
Where in World of Disney are they located? I looked all over for them and couldn't find them. I even asked 3 Cast Members and they were all equally clueless as to when they would be getting them.

I then went to AoD in DTD and they didn't have them either.

I then ran to DHS and went to the AoD there and they told me they weren't supposed to come out until tomorrow and they told me I could get them tomorrow.

Just for kicks I walked through Mickey's of Hollywood and found a try out. I asked at the counter and they were selling unopened trays. So this might be your best bet right now.

I just called Outfitters at AK to see if anything has changed since this morning and they told me "If you want to check back tomorrow we'll probably have them."

So to me it sounds like these shouldn't be out yet, but a few locations slipped up and are releasing them early. I'd suspect stores are selling them early rather than AoD in DTD selling them late. Unless of course, these really are meant to be toys and won't be sold in AoD. That could also explain why there was no announcement on Disney's site. Very interesting.

Anyhoo, I'll get some pictures taken and have them up shortly.

I got 2 trays at DHS, Mickey's of Hollywood earlier today after reading another person's post that they found them there. One tray was on the shelf next to the Park #2 figures. I picked up 4 random boxes from the tray, and asked at the counter if they would go in the back and get me 2 full cases. So after looking at me like I was a nut, she did it. So maybe after I left the store around 1pm, they pulled them from the shelf? It must be very frustrating to CMs at the AoD who want to help but are not able to control the inventory releases in the various locations. I'm with you that they will make good "toys" ... but I'm sure you'll still see them at AoD.

It's a shame this is the chaser. It could be awesome for some Customs.

Thanks so much. Can you put up some AFFORABLE BIN's for the clears on ebay tonight or are you doing it on Vbay?? ;-);-) And Disney should donate from to vinylnation.net.

I'll put them up on Vbay tonight and tomorrow night. Whatever doesn't sell I'll move to eBay.

Clear White because it looks expensive and Clear Black because it looks like onyx. I also like the Clear Light Blue since it looks a lot like ice. :)

I definitely think everyone should buy one or two from this series. I don't think these will have the same value as the others, but some of them are pretty decent looking. I still don't think these should have been blind boxed though. In the long run it is going to hurt sales.

Funny, the first one I opened was the Clear Light Blue and said the same thing that it looked like Ice. Also, it was one of my favorites too.

GREAT photos! :mickey1:.. I describe it as 'colorless' instead of 'white' ... I agree that it would be good to get more than one CLEAR figure, otherwise, you'll miss out on the fun of moving the heads and arms around! :agree:

Clear black would make an awesome NO Saints custom.....I may have to try for that one.

Are these open ended like they were originally intended or are they also a limited series?
