View Full Version : Opinions about chaser being revealed in pin sets

I was just curious as to what the general feelings are about chasers being revealed in the vinylmation pin sets.
The park1/urban1 pin set included the balloon chaser and came out long before the figures showed up. But since there were some Urban 1 pins (and this was before knowledge about chasers in the series), no surprises were revealed. For park 2, the pongo chaser was included in the pin set, but the pins came out after the release of the figures. The same is true of the holiday set. The pin set included the candy hearts chaser but came out after the figures were released. The urban 2 pins did not include the chaser.
But now, the urban 3 pins are out before the figures and include the chaser. Personally, I'm of two minds on this. I think it takes some of the figure release day excitement away. But I'm also happy to know what it is I'm looking for.

I definitely think it would be better if they waited with the pins in order to keep the chaser secret as long as possible.

It is positively wrong to do that! The pins are not as special as the actual figures, IMO, so the figures should be released first. Pins are not made of vinyl. Vinylmations are. So they should reveal first.

I dont really collect the pins so it's not a big deal to me, but I still think they should keep them secret for as long as they can. That's kinda the point of the chaser, isnt it?

Yeah, it really is a bit of a let down to know what the Chaser is going to be before the vinyls are actually released. Since pins always have a specific release date, they really should coordinate better to have them either have the same release date, or delay the pins by a week so there is no more "reveals" before the actual vinyls can be seen and purchased.

I prefer to wait for Sledge to run down to Disney and reveal here
I was not amused when they revealed the chaser early
It's part of the fun and excitement for release day.

Yeah, it was kinda lame that it was revealed before the figure came out. The Pins should be an after thought, and come out after the vinyls do.

I think they should just release the pins and vinyl at the same time... but i can sort of see why they would choose to do the pins before the vinyl. If you think about it from Disney's stand point the number of people that buy the pins probably waaaay surpass the number of collectors of the vinyl for multiple reasons. 1) the pin trading community has been around 10 years whereas vinyl is relatively new to them 2) more people are probably willing to spend the money to get 2 pins they can trade off if they don't like rather than 1 figure just because of the number of people around to trade with.
I have a feeling it's all about figuring out the way to make the most profit. While all of us on here are vinyl obsessed we probably make up a smaller percentage of the population than the pin obsessed people.

I collect both and I think they should both be released at the same time. I don't see how this would be worse for Disney, but I see how releasing the pins after the vinyls could, as some people that would purchase pins and vinyls if both are available may not purchase the pins if they are released later.

I don't think I care either way when or how the chaser is revealed to be honest. I don't care one iota about "spoilers". Lemme know what it is I'm looking for, that's all I care about. Release day "excitement" is created advertising hype that is absolutely meaningless. It's a marketing technique used to sell more product by creating an artificial sense of excitement.
Whoop-de-doo.
But if you enjoy it, don't let me rain on your parade, I'm just too busy to really care to be honest.

I'm with WildWill - I don't really care. There's not much difference to me if they release the pins earlier than the Vinyls, thereby "spoiling" the chaser, or coming on here on release day and seeing what the chaser is because I've phone-ordered my vinyls and they're not going to arrive at my house for a week. Of course, my apathy could also stem from the fact that I generally hate surprises.

I know it ruins the surprise, but let's face it, chances are if you collect the Urban Series, you are going to get them anyway.

I dont think that release day excitement is a marketing ploy. A lot of us collect for the thrill of finding something unique in these boxes. Yes, we know what the options are, but it is thrilling to know that you might open one box and find one figure that you have never seen before. By releasing the pins earlier and showing the chaser it ruins that surprise. For me personally, it makes me not really want to rush out and get Urban 3, because I don't really like what I've seen now. So I'm not gonna prioritize going out and getting these.
I don't know if that makes sense, but whatever, keep it a secret!

yeah it makes sense because people have told me that they opened the box to get a figure that wasn't pictures. and they were confused thinking it was a mistake or something.

I am fairly disappinted as I am always excited to find out what the chaser is when I am actually opening my own case...
