2010 Marathon Figures

Is anyone doing the Marathon in January? I would LOVE to get a hold of the 3" figures. I love the idea of having a little spot for you to fill in your number.
Anyone else like these as much as I do?

Just to note, the Marathon only has a limited number of spots for runners. I heard that one of them is already closed for registration due to capacity. If I remember correctly it is the 1/2 Marathon. So if you are up for the full marathon you had better sign up quick!!

Right on the money!!! :thumbsup: When I was in college I had one free elective I decided to take a bone head class with, and decided to take something like "Gym 101". It definitely wasn't what I expected as we talked about the history of many sports including Marathons, Basketball, etc. It was pretty cool to learn the ins and outs of different sports and history behind it. So, Nice job on the 26.2 miles for a full marathon, and if others couldn't guess its 13.1 miles for half marathon. Just an fyi, If you haven't trained for a full marathon I highly recommend you don't start now...A few coworkers ran marathons all the time and many people start out training a year before. If your not use to running marathons, do not try a 26.2 full marathon, or you may find yourself taking a different kind of ride in an ambulance...

but just think if you can walk a mile in 16 mins or less you will be able to finish the marathon in the time frame they give you of 7 hrs and at the end you get your Vinylmation!!

The final ruling on how these will be sold is not official. The event is held at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and they have a Health Expo and the Marathon is part of it. They do have Marathon merchandise (shirts, hats, pins, etc.) that they sell and I don't believe you are limited to being able to purchase them if you are only participating in the Marathon. My belief is that they will sell to anyone attending as I don't see them selling a lot of them to the Marathon runners to begin with. Many who run in Marathons do it for the medals, not the merchandise that is sold along with it. And since this is the first year, it may not catch on right away either. Hopefully we will be able to get these as well, either during or after the event. The 9" one was in the box and had an edition size of 450 on it I believe.

My husband and I would love to do one of the marathons eventually. We were trying to train for this year, but life got in the way and we're not nearly ready for it yet. Maybe one day in the near future though :cross: I'd LOVE to get the vinyls to commemorate the run. I like how they have the little box that you could put your time, etc. in. :thumbsup: Great figures!

The ones that were displayed at the Artist Party are for the WDW Marathons. They are, however, planning on creating one for the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon that will be a different style to make it unique to that one. There are many who run in both Marathons and they want to have unique vinylmations for them to commemorate each Marathon. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I ran the full marathon last year and I've run a couple WDW half marathons in the past. At the Artist Party it was mentioned that they were thinking of selling them to those who participated only, but my thought is that can change a hundred times before the actual release. While they do make Marathon merchandise for each year, it doesn't mean that many of the runners are vinylmation fans and my belief is that there would be some left if they don't change their minds and sell them to the public anyways at the Health Expo.

Hard to say. Even though Marathon weekend in only about 25 days out, nothing concrete seems to have been released. If it is like other Marathon weekend merchandise, they will be on sale at the Expo along with the other stuff like shirts, jackets, etc. The leftovers occasionally end up for sale at the sport themed store in DTD, and sometimes just at the Character Warehouse outlets. But I imagine these may end up at AoD or other usual sales locations.

It's probably a backorder type thing. They're probably just waiting to get them in their wherehouse. The've done the same thing with Cutesters and Urban 2s and I think even the Plushes when they first came out. I'd suggest just to keep checking back with them periodically.

There was a discussion on edition size based on a answer a member got when he inquired at the store. I forget the exact numbers, but it was around 4k each. Once it gets over one thousand, it is not really "limited" in my opinion.

Just spitballing here, but I know from working in retail cosmetics that that would often be the case when things were advertised "nationally" in magazines, and then orders would only partially be filled to see if the interest was there.

It says they will have it to us at the latest "within 30 days of the promised date". So if it was backordered a week originally, I shouldn't expect to see this arrive at my house until 5 weeks at the latest. I don't know what will happen if they take any longer than that.

It says the estimated ship date for the Vinyl is 2/20. It normally takes about 5 days for things to arrive at my house after I order them from Disney shipping. So, expect them by the end of February.

There is only 1. I think they are selling slower because they are only at the Wide World of Sports Complex - which isn't a high traffic area to begin with unless there is an event. If they moved some over to the Art of Disney or Pin Traders at DTD I think they would sell them faster and sell out.

Can you post a link?...also, in case anyone's headed over to the Wide World of Sports, their gift shop is closed for refurbishment until Friday. Well mine just got delayed by UPS, I ordered it on Monday (1/25) and they were shipped Tuesday (1/26), but then delayed here in California, so I didn't receive them on Friday (1/29), but they said they will be here on Monday (2/1)!!!! :happy::happy::happy:

As of last Friday, they had tons. I think I counted at least 8 of the 9" sitting out (but that was all the room available on the table, so who knows how many more were in the back), and numerous of both 3" Vinyls.

FINALLY got my marathon figures today, I too had them delayed here in California last week, on top of that they left the UPS warehouse at 7am and didn't arrive til 5pm. This was definitely a problem with UPS, but glad they finally arrived.

Only thing I thought was REALLY weird was that the card that comes with the Blue figure is REALLY different than the one with the White figure. I'll try and post a pic, but the card for the Blue figure has a white background and the nose is outlined and the figure has a thin silver outline; where as the white figure has a printed background (the swirls that are on the background of Urban cards) and the features like the nose are NOT outlined and the figure has a Thick gold outline around it. They look weird displayed together. The boxes turned out awesome, the figures are designed beautifully (some bleeding paint work, but nothing that ruins the figures). All in all, a solid 8 out of 10.

See the backgrounds are different, the nose and other shapes are outlined on the blue and not the white, and they are outlined in different thicknesses. Thought is was kind of weird, since they are kind of a set.

They are UltraPro Tabacco size card holders: Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-Tobacco-Toploaders-Sleeves/dp/B000MFZTZY) has them. I think you can find them cheaper other places too. Someone mentioned to me that the measurements listed on them is too small, but that is because the inner sleeves are smaller, i just toss those and only use the hard toploaders. They are perfect, you'll like them.

I'm just glad the ESPN's WWoS gift shop was out of them when we went in February. I would have paid full price, but since I had to wait until I got home, I was able to get them for $7.99

I think it was a two fold issue.
First, they didn't get to the Marathon Expo on time. Everything indicated a Thursday release for the expo open at 12, but I believe they didn't get there until 6 or so that night. A large amount of the merch is sold within hours of opening. So by missing that crucial window, they missed alot of people who may have bought them. Also, I didn't see them in the main merch area, but rather only at the WWoS store. They may have been in the satellite merch area, but the main marathon merch store didn't have them when I went back over on Friday to buy them.
The other major issue was that they weren't the best designs. Nothing really stood out about them. I bought them only because I'm a runner and I did the Goofy challenge this year. Unless you are a hard core completest they don't draw many people in. The park vinyls have things people can relate to, and urban is just trendy. But a vinyl that looks like a Greek statue? They just missed the mark on this one I think. Seeing a lot of the newer vinyls they definitely are grasping what I think people would buy, and if they did them again, they would be made more collector friendly.

I think it was a two fold issue.
First, they didn't get to the Marathon Expo on time. Everything indicated a Thursday release for the expo open at 12, but I believe they didn't get there until 6 or so that night. A large amount of the merch is sold within hours of opening. So by missing that crucial window, they missed alot of people who may have bought them. Also, I didn't see them in the main merch area, but rather only at the WWoS store. They may have been in the satellite merch area, but the main marathon merch store didn't have them when I went back over on Friday to buy them.
The other major issue was that they weren't the best designs. Nothing really stood out about them. I bought them only because I'm a runner and I did the Goofy challenge this year. Unless you are a hard core completest they don't draw many people in. The park vinyls have things people can relate to, and urban is just trendy. But a vinyl that looks like a Greek statue? They just missed the mark on this one I think. Lots and lots of training. Know your body. Not just the physical aspects, but what you need to do to complete it. When you need to eat, what to eat, stuff like that. Most people can push themselves to finish, but if you know your body, how hard to push, etc, you can do a good job. As long as you do a good job training, it's one heck of a rush to finish that knowing you accomplished what you just did.
