I'm thinking of doing it too (but for WDW obviously)

I'm confused as to what else goes into it besides working there...like are there classes? how does that work...

Plus I live in the area, so I wouldnt live in disney apartments...although maybe I should...

:)

We can be completely confused together!

From what I hear and from what I've seen, it's essentially an enormous party that you get credit for. In fact, there have been magazines (guess which) that named Vista Way (one of the CP apartment complexes in WDW) the easiest place in the entire country for a college kid to get "lucky". That's all I can say on this forum. :-X

They call it an internship, but the jobs you are doing consists of flipping burgers, running cash registers, stocking shelves, driving trams and if you are extremely lucky you can end up in Entertainment. It's kind of controversial since most people think the College Program is only Disney's way of getting cheaper labor.

I know several people that did it and had the time of their life.

Haha. I really didn't either. I wish I still thought all of them were innocent, Disney loving goodie-goodies. :( I remember being so disappointed when I learned of all the stuff that goes on.

 It's not surprising though. At least if I ever do the CP I wouldnt be living there...well unless I need to find somewhere else to live because I hate my roommate...wait...

Plus, where would I put my vinyls?

I've heard the similar things go on on the cruise ships too....:look:

If you live in the area don't do it!!!! because if you want to stay with the company at the end of the 8 months you have to start ALL OVER AGAIN!!! it's a waste of time for the ppl tht live near by.. I work for Disney in Cali.. and tht is the #1 complaints of the program.. o0o0o and the hours you MUST work them.. you can't get an extra day off nor can you get off early because they give you 3 1/2 YEARS seniory over a lot of ppl and you get paid enough for the Apartment every WEEK.. it's ridiculous... we're trying to get rid of it actually and just make it for those who are out of state... so tht way they won't be able to stay since they don't live in the area and they won't have to worry about paying rent every week.. so to me it's a waste.. and you only get 3-5 credits towards you major...

So you're advising locals not to apply? I just applied as an alternative to going to school next semester. It may sound like a dumb decision, but at my school (CSUN), there are major class cutbacks and tuition increases, and my view is that if I can't make the most of my money and take the necessary classes, I may just take a semester off, do the college program with disney, earning some money, learning a thing or two, and most importantly, taking advantage of great networking opportunities. I don't intend to live in the apartments (since I'm local) so I hope that all I earn will go to my bank account.

So what's my point in all this? Well, pretty much I'm just bringing out the reason why I applied and am hoping to see if my reasoning for applying is a good reason and making full use of the reason why and what the program was designed to do.

They're probably legally obligated to in order for the CPs to get college credit. It's probably something simple like Introduction to Ankle-biter Self-defense.

I would have to say only do the College Program if you're auditioning for Entertainment. Seems like that'd be the only actual FUN job.

Hey everyone. Looks like I came to the right place. I am actually currently participating in the Disney College Program at WDW as we speak. So if anyone has any questions at all about it just ask :)

As of right now my role is quick service food and beverage (basically fast food). While it was not my first choice I am having tons of fun. The experience of working for Disney is a fun, educational, and eye opening one. You will see things that will amaze you and also some things that may shock you. My favorite part about the college program though is meeting so many new people and the free admission to the parks. Living so close I can just hop on over to epcot and ride soarin or take the monorail and ride space mountain. I am a hardcore Disney fan so I love it but a lot of people I have met down here are here for other reasons.

As I said before just ask me any questions you might have and I'll be glad to tell you a little more about my experience. Yes, a lot of the jobs aren't too glamorous, yes you can work long hours, but it's all what you make of it, and right now im having the time of my life.

Glad you are having such a great time and I'm glad to hear of someone that is here for the right reasons.

Can you shed some light on the classes? Are there really classes you have to take while there?

Cosmos

Classes are offered but are not a required part of the CP. For instance, if you college does not offer class credits for doing the program (many don't) than you may opt to do the CP immediately after your graduate from college. In this case, your CP is entirely about working in the parks and networking as you wish. It's all about the effort you put into it as much of college is!

Classes center around a variety of topics - from business to communications to human resources... there's a high level syllabi on the college program website I believe.

The classes are range from about 1.5 hours/week to about 3 hours/week. You can take 2 or you can take 0. It's all dependent on if you are getting credits or if you want to take the classes. I am not personally taking any classes because I recently graduated but I know some people who are. The classes are also free besides the cost of the required materials (i.e. book, notebook, etc.)

i did the college program at WDW and it was one of the best experiences of my life. (Fall Advantage 2003!) i made so many great friends there and had so much fun! i'm not sure what the program is like at Disneyland though. I took a class while i was there, it didn't go toward my school credit, but it was interesting. and let me say, the discount during holiday time was my one of my favorite things!

What internship are you looking at? It really depends on what position you would want to apply for.

So how much of disneys staff is from these internships

It depends on the department, but it can be quite a high percentage in some areas like merchandise for example. Generally, the College Program students are IN the parks, not backstage as much...
