Well, I got a 9" blank finally, and at a pretty good deal. The seller messed up the cost and I got it for $24. Right after I bought mine he realized his mistake and changed the price, lol. So I have the first coat on and I had to change the layout a little bit. Now his whole head will be the night sky and I changed my mind and won't paint the back of the umbrella on the back of his head. The left ear will now be the moon with a large star in the right ear and several smaller stars all over his head. I haven't started painting jiminy yet, have to get some more paints tomorrow. I couldn't get the arms off, they just felt like they were going to tear, so I am painting around them which is really kind of a pain in the butt. Well here are the first pictures, I will post more tomorrow when I get the second coats on.

Well guys, here is the latest. I will let him dry thoroughly for a couple of days and then sand him down with some really fine steel wool and recoat then move to the finer details.
I still have some reshaping to do for some of the features; i.e. the star and I got some detail lines out of place on jiminy and the umbrella. Hopefully next post will have him coming together a little better. Thanks for all of the compliments!!

Ok, here is stage 3. I had a heck of a time getting the head back on, and damaged some of the paint doing so, but even with that I don't think I have but a few more touch up sessions left. I plan to do one more sanding and a final touch up before clear coating it. My hands aren't quite as steady as I would like them to be so the finer detail lines are a little shaky, but overall so far I am happy with it. Enjoy!!

Ok guys, here are the final pics!!:happy: I made some adjustments on the large star in the ear, it just seemed a little too large and out of place, so I thinned it up some and added some accents. I clear coated it this morning with some folk art high gloss spray. I would have rather got some brush on clear coat, but they don't have any locally, so I gave this stuff a try. It seemed to work well and I think it turned out pretty good, no flat spots. I think I gave it 4 or 5 coats total. Thanks again for all of the great comments!! Enjoy!! (P.S. Sledge do I need to send you a pic for the customs page, or can you use one of these?)

Great job, I really like how this one came out...When I saw some of your first pictures I was wondering if some of the lines and stuff where going to be cleaned up, but after I saw the completed piece I really liked it. Great job!

Just an fyi, There are some brush on type varnishes that will work similar to those clear coat spray cans. Liquitex creates a "Matte Varnish" and a "Gloss Varnish" that I have used before. The biggest thing with any "brush on" paints/varnishes/etc is brush strokes and that is the beauty of the clear coat spray (Krylon, etc). The one big problem with any spray cans is that they utilize a lot of alcohols and acetone which when you spray too much on at once you may see some bubbling of the paint. Too cold and hot weather can do something similar so make sure you always read the instructions on the can. Light coats with spray cans will always work best...One other thing is if you ever decided to mix paints with markers (sharpies for example), you will want to use the brush on matte varnish or gloss varnish to cover the sharpie marker areas first and allow to dry. Then after the sharpie areas are dried you can then use the clear coat spray. Sledge showed a perfect example of what happens with sharpies on his tattoo figure (I think that was it, and I am sure its in the customs), but the stuff runs really bad. Hope this helps...

Oh, Here is the pictures of their paint or brush on varnishes...They can be picked up at AC Moore or Michaels, or any art & supply store...

Well, I FINALLY got to give Jiminy to my stepmom today! She absolutely LOVED it!! I was watching when she opened the paper, at first she just saw the top of the box and she started to smirk because, while they are Disney fanatics, she hasn't fallen into the Vinyl trap yet. She was thinking that I had just bought her one to get her started, but then she finished taking the paper off and looked in the box, her eyes got huge and she could just say wow! LOL Thanks again for all of the comments! Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!!
