That would have been an interesting touch! I think there are toasters or waffle/pancake makers that leave an imprint of the Mickey head.

I want more designs like fireworks, 3 good fairies, checkered, Elephant Bathing pool, Ariel's undersea adventure, etc. I like the character ones too, but I miss the more abstract designs.

Agree 100% on all points. I mean just look at Urban 1 and 2 (more so 2) designs like Cosmos and Paint by Numbers, or Checkered from 1 are so simple, clean, and creative. I love glass half full but I feel like were it designed today the glass would be designed on the vinyl as well. What makes the vinyl so great as it is, is that it simply appears to be the contents of the glass. It is cleaner and more fun that way.

I aslo agree with you in that I totally enjoy the character vinyls - but I'm growing tired of them. It's just too formulaic. Elephant Bating Pool is a great example as well. It uses the vinyl as a canvas as opposed to just stretching the baby elephant onto the mickey shape.

I thought that the paint splatter vinyl in Urban 7 was fantastic. Upon seeing the original design I though it would be very dull, but translated onto the shape itself, it looked fantastic and very clever. I'll be curious to see how things progress, because if anything (good vs bad aside) the new mold should allow for more abstract work.

Definitely. The paint splatter is growing on me now that I own it :) I definitely would like to see more abstract ones. I like the character ones a lot, we just have become over-saturated with them and they aren't really making anything else. I love the work by the artists, but it would be nice to see a return to the "art on a canvas" approach.

Just to reiterate, and to give credit to the artist because he/she so cleverly added horns to the mickey ears, that we are looking at a ram, not a sheep. :)

I am not a huge fan of the urban series as a whole, there is the odd cool one but ie series 7 looks very weak, however series 8 seemed much more exciting due to bold colours and I kindof like that toaster from the previews of series 8.

Eh, I feeling pretty neutral on this series at the moment. Let's just there's more creativity and artwork in more of the vinyls. (Though I do admit I kinda like the toaster. :))

I like the Toaster. The ram is ok but not really my style. I find it funny how so many people complain that the artists aren't doing enough with the ears, but these are great examples of how they are utilizing the ears well.

THE TOASTER VINYLMATION IS BRILLIANT. The ram or sheep is alright, at first I didn't know it had a nose, because the nose outline makes it look like it has a smiley face. Curious to see the rest of the series, because it already looks better than Urban 8 IMO.

I only have two U8s - Barricade because its cool, and Hot Dog because its a food vinyl. U4 was the best IMO and I wish the balance of high quality creative, abstract and character designs would return.

I agree with that. I like the old mold so much more than the new one. The art on the new molds is really awesome which makes up for it.

Totally agree. I only have the barricade and raccoon from U8. What happened to all those good Mickey designs? I bet if we had something as simple as the U4 Tin mouse as the chaser for U9, we'd all over it.

The sheep and the toaster designs are growing on me. I do hope this set come with abstract-esque designs inspired by Mickey, like in the previous urban series: Super Mouse, Oopsy, 3d, Paint Drip etc. just to name a few. Urban 6 seems to have the last single reference of Mickey.

I can't even imagine what the chaser is going to be! With that said, I really like some of the figures in this series (surprisingly). I think the first figure in the lineup (green monster) is really cool and so are the chandelier figure, red dragon/tiger(?) figure. I really like those designs.

My husband LOVES Westerns so I know he's going to want the bandit!! I really like most of these, surprisingly. I will definitely be blind boxing a few in hopes that I get the fly, chandelier, green monster thing, toaster, power button, elephant, bandit, and even the snake. I guess that encompasses most of them :lol:

That's what I see, too. Maybe a bunny or a mouse in an elephant costume? Based on the eyes, I'd guess that it's a Maria Clapsis at any rate.

I like a lot of more these than I thought I would. The bandit looks great, and outside of one or two, I can honestly say I wouldn't be too disappointed to get any of these out of a trade box (or a blind box, for that matter).

Anyone else wondering if the chandelier will be on a clear base? It might look pretty cool with one of those light-up stands under it. :idea:

That is what I am hoping for. I think it would be really cool if it was. Now that I have looked at them a couple more times they are starting to grow on me. I think I will probably just try and trade for a few of them though.

Thanks Sledge and Vinyl Avenger for an exciting preview! :happy: I passed Urban 8 by without a second glance, but there are a few designs in this one I wouldn't mind blind boxing :) It''s funny, the urban series kind of remind me more of 'dunny' designs than actually Disney anymore. But I guess Disney just likes making sure there is something for everyone :lol:

This set is pretty bad IMO up there with U6 but this ranks higher as I have no U6 in my collection and don't plan on it. My favorites of the set (and probably only 2 I'll be getting) are the computer looking one and the guy that looks like Indiana Jones. Is it just me or the design choices of the Urban series gone way way down lately? I feel that 1 was the best out of all followed closely by 4 but the others were just ok.... am I alone in this?

IMO U2 and U3 have some really great designs. I think you can make a good case for U7 also. I have a whole set of U5, and while I don't really think it is the strongest set, the only one I could give up was the Pink Rockstar. Which I actually gave to my Daughter because she loves it.

I hope that the Chaser is cool like the Gnome or Gryphon if it isn't a Mickey based design. Which I'm sure it won't be :pout:

The Ft. Wilderness Mickey came out of nowhere as the first Mickey chaser in quite some time. Maybe a Mickey design will return for U9 then?

I honestly believe the Urban chasers went downhill with that Zombie Bunny, and that Gnome doesn't really help either. It would be interesting if the chaser is a very feminine design to counter with the dark, boyish theme.

I'll agree with that. U7 is the second largest amount of figures out of an Urban set I have next to U1


I honestly believe the Urban chasers went downhill with that Zombie Bunny, and that Gnome doesn't really help either.

I agree with the Zombie Bunny thing but I think the Gnome was great. Urbans seem to really hit home runs with the chaser choice but the rest of the 11 designs are usually hit or miss (mostly miss latley especially)

We started off thinking this was a really bad series...and it still looks really bad when you look at the set. But if you look at each figure individually it isn't that bad. Well except for the red bull/monster and the tattoo businessman! Does anyone else think that the tattoo guy vinyl looks like one of those Hong Kong Ebay "deals" where they grab whatever they can to make a complete vinyl. LOL

So who wants to guess variants?

I always thought the urban series was for more artsy or abstract ideas and designs so the choices don't bother me. I mean there's nothing urban about a tea pot or a squid but they work. This particular run feels a little uninspired though.

I wish urban they have the artists explain why and sometimes what is it? or at least name it to give us a hint by at least naming it. Since they put the names under other vinyls from other sets recently and urbans they do not since I only own one U8 i checked to see if it had a name but it did not.

I might consider getting Red Bull/Lion/Demon one, Lagoon Monster, Chandelier and Cowboy would need to see them in person. Hope Chandelier looks awesome so it can go with Haunted Mansion Set whenever it comes out. And maybes the power on and kid elephant one. I am intrigued to see what the chaser will be for this set.

I was at my Disney Store yesterday and the cast member got the release calendar out for April, and it said April 20th Urban 9! But that is weird since Disney Stores don't carry Urbans anymore. She did say that doesn't know if the stores will get them, but why would they be on the release calendar?

My Disney store (and a lot of other Disney Stores...) could use more Vinylmation inventory. And it would be nice to have more $9.95 figures at the Disney Stores (if these are going to be $9.95 like U8).

Yes 9.95 is awesome. With them coming out with more sets closer to each other but seems like less inventory of each there could be possibly several options to choose from in the near future.

I think this will be released in stores, my store is almost bone dry, we have Cutesters at the Beach, like 4 AIW, 4 Muppets and Animation 2. Animation 2 is the only series they seem to be replenishing stock on =\

I was at my Disney Store tonight and a CM brought the samples out for me to see. The kid wearing the elephant costume is actually way cooler in person! The detail is really good on that figure. The chandelier is a must have for me and the power button is a must have for my fiance. I also ended up really liking the green swamp creature. I'm decidedly unimpressed by the toaster and ram, which I thought I really liked. All in all, this series is pretty cool :)

I heard some people saying it was some sort of weird Mickey with a neck extension. I was at my Disney Store yesterday and the cast member got the release calendar out for April, and it said April 20th Urban 9! But that is weird since Disney Stores don't carry Urbans anymore. She did say that doesn't know if the stores will get them, but why would they be on the release calendar?

Kind of. It's not an extension like HAL Ostrich or AiW Caterpillar as it's painted onto the figure. It looks really really weird and I don't like it. Not sure if I can post the picture in a spoiler otherwise I would

I was talking to the manager of my local Disney Store yesterday and she said they did not have any release dates coming up. She is usually pretty knowledgable (she collects), but hopefully she missed this. It'd be nice to be able to make a 3 minute walk to pick these up rather than an hour drive to San Francisco on my day off.

Either way, I like this set. I have become a fan of urbans but was pretty disappointed by Urban #8. Maybe because it never came to DS, I just didn't embrace it. It'll be nice to have something new to blox rather than Robots #2.

Today, I saw the Urban 9 figures... And I want all of them. Even the headhunter/suit guy. The chandelier is awesome. I like the power button and toaster too. I think this is a great set. I gotta admit, this series number looked awful going in and now that I've seen them in person, I like a few of them a lot! The sheep (reg and var) are just too cute to pass up!! Then there's the chandelier! :love: they'll look great in my haunted mansion display box!! I also like how the bandit and headhunter can be taken apart and swapped with other vinyls to make an awesome switch up! Nice way of extending various pieces Disney! You've managed to win me over to this series after all :)

Hate to be saying this but... I'm liking this series the more I look at all these pics. Much more than when the initial pics were leaked.

If I see some at the parks, I might buy some bloxes.

Also hoping these don't find their way to outlet shelves, like U7 and U8. :/

Don't you just hate that when it happens? I was in love with the 25th Anniversary set then kind of lost some interest when the photos of Goofy, Bambi and a few others were leaked on a blog a few weeks ago. And wouldn't you know it, when the whole eBay sales went down and people showed them off now it's LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THEM!!

And it happened with Urban 9, too. I'm trying my best not to go two blocks to the mall and pick some up!

That's not too shabby, congrats! At least you picked up half the set in one swoop. Power button seems to be popular, I'd imagine you'd be able to trade them for another from the set. Now, time to get that chaser!

Thanks! I do like the power button, so I wasn't too disappointed. And like you said, I can trade them for others in the set. I was really hoping for that dragon variant more than the chaser though :lol:

It's design definitely turned out a little cooler than expected with all the hidden mickey's on it. It's funny how much the Urban variants have been much more popular than the chasers the past couple of sets.

I bought three today and got the Power button, the Chandelier, and the Chaser. The first two were designs I wanted and the other, while sort of weird, is still the chaser which is always cool to blind box. I like it a bit more in person because you can see the arms extending all the way down the neck extension.

This series is really starting to grow on me. I'm excited to swing by my local DS and pick up a couple of boxes tonight. I'm really liking the variants too but from the posted photos, I'm pretty disappointed with the chaser.

There are quite a few from this series I like. Plus, I've seen a few different pictures of the chaser from different angles and it is growing on me. The more I look at it with the neck insert, the more I'm seeing the fun-house mirror effect.

yea, theyre really tough to remove, just twist and pull.

i had one that wouldnt even twist, i was worried of exerting any strength, trying to move the thing. but it finally gave and everything was ok.

Same story at Epcot, although I didn't browse the window-box section of Mousegears (they had the Zodiacs the week before, though). Valentines specials were there above the blind boxes, and Urban 9 was nowhere to be found in the park.

I blind boxed my first chaser of the year! I've only bought 4 vinyls this year. Funhouse Mickey was awful hard to separate. He looks cool angled, but odd when you view him straight on. The dragon variant is so nice looking! But the chandelier is what takes the cake in the set for me. When viewed in person the set is so cleanly painted. IMO.
