Replace S.F. Giants with Dodgers and we have the same must get teams. Although I'm not a big baseball fan, and I may get an Angels one too, I think they came out very nice and well executed. They must do the NHL, at least the Ducks. I'll take a Wildwing vinyl even. Disney has only owned them for only 12 years. Even better would be an Anaheim Ducks one part of an NHL series (which I would probably end up trying to get every team) and a Mighty Ducks of Anaheim as an exclusive. That would be sweet.

I was told at D23 that eventually, all the teams in the NBA would get a vinyl, but they were making them in waves, so a few teams at a time. I assume the same will be true of the other leagues as well.

Alls I can say is, after seeing the Dallas one today, they better make a Redskins one!

There were also previews of NFL figures for the Patriots and Cowboys, but as an Eagles fan, I threw up in my own mouth a little when I took a picture of the Cowboys vinyl. :-P I'll try to get that picture uploaded.

They did have a list of the first wave from each league but they didn't show all the teams in that wave. I never saw this list but I know someone else here did. It would surprise me if Green Bay wasn't on that list.

Love these. Definitely getting a Yankees one. I believe these will be sold on ds.com. These are a great gift for a sports fan and will increase the exposure of Vinylmation. Would be cool to see these being sold at the respective stadiums as well.

They wouldn't do all college sports teams; they'd do the ones they already have licensing deals with. I've seen some NCAA merchandise sold at Disney.. maybe 15 teams or so? That would be awesome if they released those teams on Vinylmation (especially since my team is one of the teams they have a licensing deal with :))

There was apparently a phantom list at the Florida Project (that no one actually got to take pictures of), and while our sources didn't specifically look for Philly teams, they did notice that the Eagles should be in an early wave of the NFL figures. :thumbsup:

Finally, we are releasing 3-inch figures of select football teams from the National Footbal League. These open window box figures will be released via the Disney Parks Online Store on January 27. You will be able to find them at select Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort locations (including D-Street) on February 3. Each figure will be $14.95 each and here is a breakdown of the following teams that will be released in this series:

These teams that will be in the first wave are a bellwether - if they do well, we'll see expanded rosters. Eric was limited in the designs for these groups by having to include FL and CA teams on account of the theme parks.

I can see why Disney are doing this, as this should be a great way of getting people into vinylmations and also a easy way to make money. People love their sports team and I can see this series selling well, while the price might put people collecting the whole series/collection, i can easily see people getting the team's they support and I also think this is going to be a easy present for people. While i'm not interested in a single one of these, I can see that they should be popular...now if only we could get a WWE series!!!

I completely agree. I also wonder about using the initial waves as any sort of barometer. The NBA has dismal fan numbers, especially in terms of attendance, and NFL teams like the Jets, Colts, and Chargers don't have particularly large (or particularly rabid) fanbases. Those three could easily have been replaced by the Eagles, Bears, and Packers, all three of whom have large Florida-transplanted followings.

Granted, my primary interest will likely be the MLB vinyls, but leaving out the Phillies confounds me. They sell out every home game and a ton of road games. Actually, leaving out any teams confounds me - these could have been sold in every Grapefruit and Cactus League Spring Training game, and they'd have been huge. :shrug:

Don't forget we also get a vinyl representing our beloved Bull! They are a much better team (at least this year!) than the Bears, Cubs, or White Sox. I do hope we get a Blackhawk vinyl eventually. I love me some Hard Hawk Hockey!

I got a look at the NFL team vinyls on the Disney Store website, and honestly was not very impressed...I understand that the differences lie within the team jersey colors, but I hoped for more detail. I'm thinking maybe the Disney Design team was limited due to complications with contracting with the NFL? I hope that's the case because while I WOULD pick up a Niners vinyl, I'm not sure if the price point is justifiable...

With a premium placed on the California and Florida teams to start, although they haven't been announced, I think that possibly the Marlins and especially the Rays should probably be expected in the initial MLB figures (those not yet announced but making up the first wave, I mean).

I'm actually really interested to see if/how they add to the college line. I mean, football schools were clearly king, with UNC thrown in basically to satisfy anyone who complained about basketball not being represented, but college teams generally have much more specific support bases than professional teams. Big name schools like Notre Dame with strong football programs (or football histories, anyway) seem like good candidates, but you don't really see UConn fans that aren't from New England or alums. Ditto basketball schools like Louisville, Villanova, Indiana, etc.

If you're Disney, do you appease those slightly smaller fanbases, or do you maximize your sales potential by sticking to the bigger football schools from the bigger football conferences? I could see LSU and Wisconsin, but Syracuse and Stanford both seem like long shots, you know? :shrug:

If the initial waves do well, they'll add more teams. :thumbsup: Based on the display boxes we saw, all of the sports should get at least a dozen vinyls, though.

Just when I was warming up to the new mold these series turned me off to it again. The designs themselves are so-so, but what bothers me is that they could have been so much more. For the price they cost, they could have added an actual plastic helmet around the head. Why not have Mickey's head on each vinyl and then enclose it with this sort of a helmet? The Disney/Vinylmation appeal would have been much higher to me if they'd taken one of those routes.

My sister stopped by the store this morning around 9:30 a.m. and had no problem picking up a few of these. She also meantioned they still had both the 3" tins available and a CM told her for today only, both 9" exclusives were $25.00.

In my opinion, if Disney plans to release multiple sports vinyls and keep churning out sports teams, i think non-vinyl fans will definitely become inspired to get these as they pass by the park stores.

Stopped by the Michigan ave store in Chicago today and picked up a cubs figure!!! It's pretty awesome. They didn't have any bulls ones, but maybe the basketball series will come later

Random non-sports fan question: did they make a Syracuse one? My friend asked me to make a custom one for him and I'm just not sure if ones already made or if you all think they'll make one. :) (Basketball I'm pretty sure.)


EDIT: I see Phylers posted pics of the college series and wrote about seeing them expand. I think I'll make a custom for now and if they release one, my friend can decide to get it or not!

I just saw your question now, but no, no SU vinyl for right now. If you do make a custom, please post it! I was born and raised in Syracuse and am a huge Orange fan :) I would love for them to make one of these vinyls but I honestly don't see it in the future.
