So how many of you are planning to pick up the Darkwing Duck set?

I was thinking we could have a meet up and keep each other company while waiting in line for several hours. Maybe trade a few figures around (rare or not) , keep each other awake, and just have fun to pass the time.

I'm still trying to figure out when is the best time to go that's not too early or too late. This is a very popular set, so I assume getting there before 5-6 would probably garuntee one...

So for those who are interested in a get together, let's figure out a time to assemble.

ITT we need to:
- decide on a time
- where to meet (or we could just bunch up in line asap and hope we get to meet each other)
- think of fun activities to pass the time

*updates*

Most of us are meeting up at 4 assuming this would get us a decent place in line.

I'll be headed towards this entrance and go wherever Security is re-directing everyone.
http://i52.tinypic.com/24bp2r7.jpg
You can easily find me with this hat and bag.

During the wait time and after we grab our loot, we can talk, trade, and have fun to pass the time.

We can always meet after we get the figures outside the store for a bit and at the Paradise Pier pin/figure trade event in the evening.

Feel free to PM me, maybe we could swap numbers to stay updated on stuff.

I'll be there. I'm interested to see when others will be getting there. I've heard people talk of camping out or getting there around midnight! That's ridiculous, I can't get there that early. I'm pretty sure I've settled on 4am at the latest, but this release may be so insane that 4am isn't early enough...

2 AM that is crazy! Disney doesn't allow for camping out on there property anyway...how are people planning on getting past security? I think 4 AM is the best time to arrive, I think most people will just be turned away for getting there too early. But I will definitely be there!

Wheezy

You would think that would be the case. I'm thinking 4 AM would definitely be able to secure one. It's not too early or late, should land decent middle spaces in the line.

You dont enter the parking lot, you just line up on the right hand side in your car sit and wait until 545 when they let you go park and then stand in line. There were a lot of people there for bonkers, so I can only imagine what it will be like for darkwing. I am not 100% sure if I can make it this time, but if I do I will take some traders with me and see if we can work something out.

The Downtown Disney parking lot?

I don't care about being first in line, and honestly don't care if I'm the 250th in line, as long as I make the cut. 4am sounds good to me.

So far that's four people (counting me) who are down with 4 AM. I'll probably have to head there earlier anyways since I'm walking (i wonder how creepy it is to walk around Anaheim at 3 AM...).

The right hand side of where? You mean the area right before the parking attendant booths?

I had a lot of fun at the Bonkers release. It took forever to get wrist bands, but it was worth it. I want to go for Darkwing Duck but I honestly don't think I'm going to be able to make it. I may have to go back up to North California for my friend's funeral...:(

where do you park for this, in downtown disney? do they let you park in there that early? since they dont allowcamping do people wait outside unorganized and when they let people start to line up does everyone rush to line up at the store lol.

still debating on going or not, really want this set but it will depend if i work friday or not, if you get a wristband when can you pick up the set?

Wheezy
09-05-2011, 02:42 AM
Wow that sounds awful if we have to rush form a line (this can only lead to chaos), you think they'd just put a line starts here sign and you just wait there. That would make more sense. I'll have to ask a CM or something about this.

Sorry if this sounds shocking but I'm not that fussed about Darkwing Duck, we will be at Disneyland on 16th but certainly not at 4am, at that time I will still be tucked up in bed enjoying my vacation.
Would be nice to meet some forum members though, we are at Disney 14/15/16/17 before we head to Vegas.

How early are you allowed to park in the Downtown Disney parking lot? Is this where everyone parks for releases? I'm just curious if everyone sits and waits in their cars until you are allowed to park and walk to D-Street to get in line, or if everyone has found an alternate parking location. Do they let you walk through Downtown Disney or do they have security telling you that you aren't allowed in until a certain time?

For anyone who was there for the Bonkers release, did everyone form a line by Rainforest Cafe for the wristbands? Did they have CM's or security helping form the line? They might do the same thing for Darkwing Duck and it says not to line up before 6am, were people lining up way before then?

I've never gotten to D-Street before 7am so I'm curious about where to go. Don't want to be stuck figuring it out while the line gets longer and longer..

Every DL release is a little bit different, but this is what has been happening lately. Nobody has been aloud on Disney property until 5:45ish. What happens is people line up in a few places. There is a line of cars at the DTD parking lot. There is a line of people just to the right of those cars. And there is a line of people at the Disneyland hotel. Then at about 5:45 Disney security let's people line up at the kiosk near Rain Forrest Cafe and it's a mad dash. People are running from all directions, cars are peeling out. It's crazy for about 5 minutes.

At the Bonkers release, CMs quickly moved up the first 50ish people into a separate line and said that no late commers were aloud in. This meant that you could not hold a spot for people. Then they took the next 50 or so and did the same thing. And so on and so on... I am a fan of this, because a lot of people from cars send runners to get a spot and then the rear of the car just folds into the line. I'm always there alone, so it's annoying to me.

Anyway, at Bonkers we stood in line until about 7:30 and then they started to hand out wristbands. There were 6 things being released that day, so it was slower than usual. Once you got a wristband you could walk over to DStreet and get in another line to buy Bonkers or whatever. The wristband guaranteed you a Bonkers or whatever until 1:00.

About parking: I have always been able to purchase a release by 9:00am. Whenever I leave there is not even an attendant at the exit. You get 3 hours free parking and that 3 hours starts at 10:00am.

That sounds like an absolute chaotic mess. If this is the case, where should we meet at?

I can walk to downtown Disney within 20 minutes so parking isn't an issue for me.

Well, to accommodate the most people I'd suggest meeting at the parking lot entrance. I don't think most people will be walking to the release, they will need to deal with their cars. Once you are waiting in the car line you are just sitting there, so you can totally just hop out of your car and commiserate with the non-car line.

So they let you into the parking lot at 5:45 to park your car, and then you can get out and get in line at Rainforest Cafe? How long was the line of cars waiting for the parking lot to open? This seems like it'll be so insane, I'm not looking forward to it at all. But I really want this set.

Well I will be there at 4:00 am! I think we should carpool LOL lets get our vinyls and help the planet people!...Anyway I cannot wait to meet everyone for this release, it will be great to have new friends to wait in line with and chit chat and the like. So the line forms near Rainforest Cafe yes? So there is no need to mad dash between the Cafe and D Street which is good. I'm just worried about the mad dash of people who are waiting to park and those that are already out of there cars. Although you can't really have people and cars mixed together waiting in the same line I suppose that can only end in tears!

For Bonkers I got there at 5:00 and I was around the 20th car. I think the Bonkers release was a pretty low turnout compared to what DW will be though.

We should definitely come up with an exact location to meet to make it easier. The parking lot entrance where is that exactly is it the stations where you get parking permits for downtown disney? I think maybe we'll need photos of this exact location.

Also I don't mind carpool. I live close by and it might be safer if I got a ride instead of walking late at night by myself >_>

Okay people, we have approximately one more week until the big day. So we're meeting at the parking entrance correct? Is there actually anyone else who will be on foot besides me? I assume if I walk there, security would just point me to a queue of some sort.

Possible ideas:
- We carry a certain vinyl figure we like.
- maybe exchange numbers and text so we get updates on what's going on.

I'll probably be wearing my purple poison mushroom hat (it's a purple hat with a white bottom with a skull on the purple) and Nintendo Club bag.

There's a trade event in the evening at Paradise Pier.

At around 3:30ish I'll head over to DTD to arrive around 4 (hopefully I can stay awake...).
I'll head towards here and go to wherever security redirects me (hopefully a line queue and not anywhere else...).

You can find me easily because I'll be wearing this purple hat while carrying this bag.
http://i52.tinypic.com/24bp2r7.jpg

And for those of who succeed getting the set within the first few hours we can meet up outside the store.

I wish I could carry a banner saying Vinylnation or something.

The waiting period was pretty bad. I left around 2 AM and there was quite a line up of cars. Originally I was at the front of the pedestrian line near the parking gate, but as soon as they let people in. Idiots ran ahead and security did nothing! I ended up running too. I went from first in line to like 50th! Supposedly for future event security is either going to forbid pedestrian lines or force them to wait until the cars loaded in.

The wait was really long and I think by late 4 AM, it was reaching cap.

Thankfully, when they opened the line moved at a decent speed. I managed to trade my extra DW set for Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers( I might trade for Duck Tales).

Got some trades in too.

Here's hoping trade night isn't a fiasco of chaos.

I'm glad you got what you wanted Wheezy. I was there too and it was insane. I'm glad they let us in the parking lot early because there were so many people that sent runners drone their cars that I don't know if I would have been able to get my DW if they would have let more cars line up. Since I'm by myself I just had to patiently way in my car while people ran to the line. I got there at 3:00am and was about the 50th car, butI ended up somewhere around 175-200 in line.
