Aulani 3" Menehune vinylmation

I was at Dstreet CA today asking about some up coming releases. They could not verify Bolt and Merlin being released on Sept 2. But as the CM was looking in the binder about released and new releases one page caught my eye. Green page, Yellow/Brown fancy window box and a brown figure.... It was a 3" Menehune (only one design on page) being released at Aulani on Aug 29... sorry no picture or price. Also there was no mention of it being a DVC exclusive

i'm interested in if they'll include any information on what a menehune is. (i know, but i'm pretty sure most people outside of hawaii don't)

From what I've read, the Menehune play a big part in the story of the Aulani resort so any guest staying there should be familiar with them.

I believe the story or part of it is that the menehunes came one night and built the hotel or parts of it overnight. some of them are still around and can be found in pool area called Menehune Bridge.

There is a fellow on Facebook who works there. He did not tell me if it was an LE or a Limited Release or Open Edition.
Of course we have found that even open editions are subject to the amount produced (i.e. SF bridge). Hoping it stays around for a bit and everyone gets one.

i got this yesterday thanks to my parents and helping a few members out. at first i didn't really love the figure, but it's growing on me. i wish there were a vinyl that were more based on hawaii scenery (diamond head, waves, and sunset would be awesome)

This vinyl looks so much cuter in person!! I was so excited to receive mine (thanks to a wonderful member here! :)) and even more thrilled when I saw it in person. The smiling face is so adorable :)

i agree for the most part. it's not very obviously Hawaiian in terms of visual. i was totally thinking of something more tropical/flowery, etc.

the story of the menehune is pretty unique and very Hawaiian in some ways, so i applaud the effort to an extent. and i think the figure is nice. but they don't really explain the menehune on the box itself, and they really only say one or two sentences about what it is in promotional videos, so i'm kind of worried about the representation (as someone who is Hawaiian and from Hawaii myself)

I went to Aulani this past weekend and now I understand why they chose the menehune design. There are menehune figures hidden throughout the property. There also were a bunch of them in the waterplay area.
