VinylNation forum member Phylers attended the Pirates of the Caribbean release today at Walt Disney World's D-Street and was able to collect the following information regarding future Star Wars releases and Park #7. He had the following to say:




- Star Wars Series 2 is planned for release next year, but they don't want to say it will be in time for Celebration VI just in case they run into any delays. As it is, the time frame is very tight, but they're confident that they'll be able to do things quicker now that the VM team and the Lucasfilm people have done it once before.




- Star Wars Series 1 is returning in the late-Summer/early-Fall. It was planned to be around for a year like the Holiday series, and all of the production numbers have not been changed. They've stuck to the original production schedule, but the demand has far outstripped their numbers.




- In addition to Star Wars Series 2, there will be an open-edition, window-box series of Star Wars vinyls released, and they are more confident that those will be available in time for Celebration VI. The time frame is roughly Summer of 2012.




- Rex, the droid from the original Star Tours, is not in any of the Star Wars series sets. However, Donald Ferro told us that we'll be very pleased around the time of the Florida Project.

Series #2 will be based off of Episode IV – A New Hope, and it is set for release in August. *cough* Hopefully-in-time-for-Celebration-VI. *cough* Wow, it got dusty here in the VinylNation offices for a second!

To add to this, when Phylers and I talked to Casey himself, he did confirm the blind box was going to be from a classic trilogy movie but he didn't say which one. I'm hoping Return of the Jedi because I think A New Hope should be saved for last!

Whoo hoo!!!! This is awesome news!!! I can't wait to read more about the Window Box since thats a big surprise to me. Wonder what they'll focus on...any speculation or ideas?

Hopefully Series 2 will be just as good if not even better then Series 1. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an Ewok VM! And I hope they stay true to their time frame because then I'll be on vacation in WDW when the VMs are released. :happy: :happy: :happy:

It'd be interesting if they saved the designs. If memory serves, the same thing happened with the 9'' Muppetvision Kermit.

Similar. From my understanding he was originally intended to be a 3" Chaser in Muppet Series #1 and was moved to Muppet Series #2 as a 9" figure.

still would like to see some episodes IV-VI, definitely jabba the hutt, throw in leia in her jabba slave outfit as the chaser:thumbsup: ..as for series I-III definitely bring in mace windu, jango fett, darth maul! then of course qui-gon jinn as a chaser for that series, along with his ghost variant like how they did with obi..or some variants of queen amidala's outfits:thumbsup:

Great news about series 2 being from Ep IV or Ep VI. Either one should be great.

The window box items should be interesting and, IMO, could go one of three ways:

Something obscure where a LE makes sense, like Rex and another Star Tours character;
Something extremely popular and/or park specific that they want it to be Open Edition so they can carry it for a much longer period of time, like the characters in classic Ep IV costumes.
9" figures.

Either way, I'm glad SW1 figures will be back so I can try to get a Ghost Obi and that there will be a Series two coming out next year.

You never know, but I wouldn't guess any time soon.

If I were running things, I might release one tease at the Florida Project at the absolute earliest, but I'd hold off on any others until after the first series was completely finished. :shrug:

This is going to be great! Star Wars has easily been my most favorite series to date so to know they're going to come out with a second one by next year has already gotten me pumped!

I think they should do series 2 based on Return of the Jedi. I would do Luke in the Black outfit (of course he would need a Green Lightsaber this time), The Emperor, The red Imperial Guards, Leia slave, Lando in guard disguise, Wicket, Admiral Ackbar, Bib Fortuna, Gammorrean Guard, Han in Carbonite, Jabba the Hutt, and Vader sans helmet as the chaser, with his ghost being the variant. Just my thoughts. I think its harder to make series two since you will have repeat characters, but have to make sure they are varied.

Can't wait for this set. Will probably buy another case when it comes out.

I like that list except I would like to see the Rancor instead of the Gammorrean's. I'm also hoping they do the different types of Stormtroopers which for Jedi would be the Scouts.

I agree with you about the scout troopers. So sub them into my list for the Gammorrean and release the Rancor and GG as a 9"/3" set.

We seem to have ROTJ covered. What if it is A New Hope? I think that gets harder to fill 12 spots. Here is what I have so far.
1. Leia in white dress
2. Luke X-wing - cooler than his white outfit
3. Jawa
4. Sand people
5. Greedo
6. Sand troopers
7. Tie fighter pilot

After that I start drawing a blank. Who else could fill in the remaining 5 spots that are't already done in the first set?

We've been told that they plan to do a set for each movie. We know the next one is ROTJ but I imagine the figures you are suggesting will no doubt appear in a future set. As a fan of the original trilogy, I'm glad they are doing them first. Seems only fitting after all.

I don't think we really need two ghosts. Maybe the variant for this series could be the Han Solo in Carbonite, with a regular Han Solo as the normal figure?

I wouldn't mind a ghost since i do not have Ghost Obi. I hope there is 1 or 2 designs or vinyls at florida project regarding Star Wars 2. i would love a Luke in fighter pilot uniform but they could hold off for another set since i agree 1 luke per set is enough. Newer trilogy i would love a Darth Maul with like horns sticking out since they have been making more accessories. Is the first one for sure being re-released because i bought one case already but might buy another to try and get Ghost.

Correct. The Disney character series will be available in open window boxes, and they will be out sooner than Star Wars #2. :thumbsup:

I think this is the first time that I'm really disappointed these will be on the new mold. I was mildly disappointed Villains 2 and Animation 2 are on the new mold but have kinda accepted it. It's not the mold that disappoints me but more the fact that these will look totally different, and possibly be better looking, than the first series. I hope they redo the first series characters in the new mold. I don't really mind the new mold on the Park and Urban series since those designs are all over the place and don't need some kind of uniformity throughout the whole collection and I can treat the new ones as a whole new collection. But these character based series are going to be affected more because the two molds are not going to look right mixed together. It's like starting all over. So it would suck to have certain characters in the old mold and missing on the new. It's going to look like the original trilogy vs the new trilogy.

Yes I meant a case not one box, my mistake. Wow you have to be the luckiest person on earth. Even the probability of you trading a star wars and getting a star wars vinylmation is very low considering all of the other sets on the market right now. Did you trade at Star Tours gift shop?

no, I traded with another park goer who had an extra Leia who just happened to be buying a Pirates set while I was just looking at the display. Started a conversation with her and ended up meeting her next day at Animal Kingdom to make that swap. And the other trade was at the gift shot at my resort. Plus with trading, in every shop I went to except for 1, if I was nice and just told them what I was looking for, they would either tell me if it would be worth my while to trade, or even just give me the one I needed for a swap if they had it (did that several times for my Toy Story collection too). I know they arent supposed to do that, but a little sugar with the employee there really made a difference for me. For my Stormtrooper I needed, she "accidentially" showed me the back of the trading box, I STILL picked the wrong #, but she gave it to me anyway!!

I like the facial expression much better than the Obi Wan in series 1. You have to figure there will be multiple repeat Characters as the series designs move forward ie: Luke, Vader, Leia, Han.

Only my second post! I purchased a tray on ebay back when they were first released; cost me a lot in shipping to the UK on top of the import tax that gets added on top, although I pulled out the Ghost Obi Wan so that made me smile!

I'm just back from my holiday to Florida over Christmas & New Year and got talking to a few of the CMs in the D-Street store about the new Star Wars series. They said that it's expected to be in the store around March time!? I said I thought it was due for August which they also had thought, but they've now be told otherwise. Maybe it's been pushed forward? I hope so, although I'm going to have to save up for a tray again, why can't they release some in the UK!

You can cross off Grand Moff Tarkin, Greedo, Ben Kenobi, and a Tusken Raider. That knocks it down to eight slots left, although since you know we have to have Luke and Leia in their iconic outfits, we're really down to six, five if we all agree that a Jawa is also a necessity. :thumbsup:

Probably already mentioned, but they should make Holographic Leia as the chaser. Think that's one of the more famous scenes in the Star Wars series.

The official word has steadily been that it's not expected until late-summer (read: August, before or at CVI). The Star Wars Disney Character set will be out for SWW, though. :thumbsup:

The window-boxes have indeed been in good supply. I want to think they've really learned the lesson from Star Wars 1 that the interest will be huge, but CVI is such an x-factor. :shrug: If it's as well-attended as CV was, there's no telling what the demand might be like. Plus, that's even assuming Star Wars 2 will make CVI; the word has been very cautiously optimistic, but we still don't have a hard yes, they'll be there. Fingers :cross: that we do get confirmation; I was pretty let down after setting money aside specifically for a tray, as my big CV purchase, when Series 1 was pushed back again.

Leia's pretty important to the series, I'd be annoyed if they left her out. Each of the series are based on specific movies so there's going to be a lot of repeats.

I like the series do far, but I hope they can live up to how awesome the series 1 chaser was. Some recent series (not star wars) have had some lackluster chasers that weren't really anything special to "chase" for.

With the new hands, the handle became unnecessary. X-Wing Mickey's lightsaber is likewise devoid of handle and slightly more club-shaped than the previous accessory. :thumbsup:

There are enough costume changes that I expect to see all of the main characters in the first three sets, assuming the first three are the original trilogy. Maybe the next Vader would have a removable helmet? :idea: Two variants - Sebastian Shaw, who people might actually want, and Hayden Christensen, who would fill trade boxes. :lol:

Of course, the second Vader is pretty different from the first, attributable at least in part to another artist's (or in this case group of artists') perspective.

Vader with the helmet but without the faceplate would be an excellent chaser. From RotJ, nothing to do with the prequels, of course.

I guess what is really odd is this is the first character they would show. To me it's a little bit boring since he was already in set 1 even though it's a good figure. I'd be a lot more thrilled right now to see a character not in set 1. I thought that all of the human characters were the least popular in series 1 just because they didn't look good on the old mold..but I think the humans might be good to repeat to see them on the new mold.
