Philadelphia Area Trade/Meet Up

Hi all :wave:

I have been seeing more and more people on this forum who frequent King of Prussia mall, Montgomery Mall, Oxford Valley mall, etc.

I'd really like to see a trade event come to fruition. I don't know where it would be, when it would be or any of the details but I thought we could work on getting something together.

So help me figure it out and maybe we can finally have a meet up/trade event in our area! :)

This isn't helpful at all, but, "what, what!" I used to live right down the street from Oxford Valley Mall! :lol: (I guess it can help keep the thread bumped toward the top. :))

If all else fails, I think some forum folks have a group that meets at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Allentown. It's not close, but it's not too far, depending on where in the Philly suburbs you're located. :shrug:

I'm in North Wilmington and would be totally up for a Philly area meetup! They recently closed the closest Disney Store to me so now I have to choose between Christiana & KOP. I also have a decent amount up for trade right now and will be making a trip to WDW the end of July, so who knows what I'll have at the end of that trip. Anyway, keep me posted if you get enough people to do it!

Just think of it this way. You will have plenty to trade with at the parks when you go if you can't get something together. I took almost 40 traders with me in June and replaced almost all of them with things that I did not have.

What has the trading box been like at Lehigh Valley? It's a quick ride for me (1 of 3 Disney Stores within a 30 minute drive for me), but i haven't been up there yet. Also, what kind of supply do they have for blind boxes?

By the way, the CM's at the Montgomery Mall are always really helpful and enthusiastic when it comes to vinyls! Also, if the Robots series is releasing on July 18, as it is rumored, it could be fun to schedule a meet for that evening somewhere (Cherry Hill, KoP, Montgomery).

Montgomery Mall CM's MOST DEFINITELY are very helpful! :) I know almost everyone by name there and they know me so they are always sure to talk vinylmation with me (and my boyfriend.) Overall, just a wonderful group of people. I originally wanted to do a meet up there, but it looks like KoP is winning out.

Cherry Hill does have 9" :) Not a bad store, but I don't make the trip all that often.

Well since Ive only been going to the LVH mall one, I dont have any comparison.. but the staff are very helpful and are willing to save me as many boxes as I want anddddd they know me by name even though I've only called once. ha. The associate told me that they are actually in the middle of getting a shipment of urban 5 and Laugh a lots .. which means the buy one get one free will continue.. I will keep you posted when I find out about it. I took the last two of laugh a lots.

That's a good idea, but the store is on the small side unfortunately. It would have to be a meet up in the food court type of thing that I think I have to run by the mall first (I read somewhere that as long as you buy food or drink from the food court you can sit there & take up space.)

All Disney Stores seem kind of small. The food court at Montgomery is right across from the store, though. Cherry Hill's court is some distance from the store.

That's sort of why I was thinking Montgomery Mall food court for the meet up but general consensus seems to be KoP mall- then we would have to decide which food court to visit or where to meet up since that is a huge mall.

Michaels crafts stores sell terrific plastic compartmentalized boxes for carrying supplies. I use them for vinyls, and the dividers in the boxes can be adjusted to accommodate 15 vinyls/box. Plus, they can stack. Very useful to hold figures and cards.

Trying to work out a location first. It seems like King of Prussia mall is the top runner for choice. The next decision is where in the mall to meet so I can contact the mall and make sure it's ok. Then I will pick a day (it will most likely be a Saturday or Sunday.)

Hey guys here's a link to a map of King of Prussia Mall. It look like the Disney store is on the upper level of "The Court". There is a food court on the lower level of The Court. You can see it on the map in the link it's off to the bottom right in green. I mean we could meet at the Disney Store OR the food court, and all it would take is a walk on the stairs to get to the other location. Plus it's a short walk for buying new vinyls!!

I just came from the Montgomery Mall store. They are aware of this thread and said they would love to have the meet at their location. They couldn't plan it, of course, but they said their location is ideal because of the proximity of the food court. They did understand that KoP may be more convenient to get to, but they are definitely an enthusiastic and very informed group of cast members. If not this meet, everyone should consider a future meet at their location.

DocB, the CMs at Montgomery sound cool and I would be willing to make the drive if everyone else did. But I think right now the vote is leaning towards KoP MAll. Could be the location for the next meet though!

Well what days of the week or timeframes are good for everyone? My boyfriend and I dont have normal Monday thru Friday schedules but neither of us work after 5 on most days. Anyone else have specific days or times that do or dont work?

I unfortunately wouldn't be able to make it to the trading event if its on a Saturday in July. I can do some Saturdays and Sundays in August though but I'm not sure anyone wants to wait that long. Maybe we can try to run a poll on what date works best for everyone.

It's sort of up in the air as to which people would prefer- Montgomery Mall or King of Prussia. Montgomery Mall Disney Store is right across from the food court so it's a better location. KoP is a huge mall and the only sitting area near the Disney Store is rather small. So keep that in mind when deciding. Also, Montgomery Mall Disney Store CM's are interested in this event and I think they'd be really fun to include.

There is no date set up as of yet. Until a location is confirmed a date cannot be confirmed. I'm waiting on general consensus before giving an ultimate date/time/location. I too think a lunch time on a weekend would be good. Keep the ideas rolling and give your vote for location and day of the week that works best :)

I was thinking if anyone did split a case we would flip a coin to see who picks first then open one by one to see who gets the chaser, then just split the case evenly so each would have a set minus a chaser =(, oh yeah the 20% off coupon forgot about that, need to get some more, also i thought urban 7 would hit the stores on the 22 but it ds.com and parks only on the 22nd

I definitely can't make the 23rd but if we can do this every other month or so that would be great!! I know it seems like a lot but it looks like there are enough people that different people could probably make different ones. That way even for those who are close to the area, every time would probably have different traders. Besides, I'm sure we all buy and trade enough that in 2 months our collections and traders look vastly different.

im glad to see there are traders in the area...i just started collecting and am new to the forum obviously...but i live right down the street from the montgomery mall and am working on bulking up my collection and will definately be looking to do some trades

I know the food court can be quite busy, but maybe you should pick a general table location for everyone to meet at. Say, the tables in front of McDonalds? That way everyone knows to go to a specific spot then can decide whether to stay in the food court or move to the empty store that will be set up for the group.

I just got back, and I think today's meet was a HUGE success! I made some great trades, but even more important was that I got to meet a really nice group of people! Collecting these figures is a great hobby, but when you get to interact with other enthusiasts it takes it to a whole new level of enjoyment. Thank you to everyone who participated and especially to you, MsDisneyFan, for your inpired idea for the meet. Thanks should also go to the CM's at the store for their incredible enthusiasm and for promoting the event even though it was not an official one. I can't wait to do it again!!

Just got home as well, It was a great day, we were able to help others complete their sets and complete ours, it was very nice to meet some of you guys. and the cm's at the Disney store in Montgomery mall are the best I have met yet. They were so helpful and nice, wish we lived closer to that store then ours (Deptford). For those that missed this one, we are planning another meet sometime in September, we are not yet sure of the date. I know September is a little busy for a lot of members here. Anyone one to try the last week in August? Took some pics will post some when I get a chance, hope next time we get even more members to join us. It was so nice meeting everyone.

n/p glad we could help. I think the best for me was being able to help a kid I never even meet, when the cm came down to trade, they were looking for pork chop, gave her a pork chop and p6 topper for i think a abe, even tho I didnt need an abe, but wanted to make sure the little kid got what they wanted, so gave her 2 vinyls. We had a blast and can't wait for the next one. September 17th sounds like an official date, I won't know if I can attend until the date gets closer, but for sure will try my best.

First thing, welcome to the forum :) The last meet was at the Montgomery Mall in North Wales, PA. Will probably have the next one there, but open to other suggestions as well.

I thought the Room for one more Event was Friday, Sept 30? Other than seeing a post about it on a forum, I didn't find any info on the Disney Parks website, but i didn't search super hard either.

Of the dates listed the 10th and 17th are probably best for us; the 24th is our son's 8th birthday - depending on what we plan for him that day, we may or may not be able to make it. (Also, fall soccer season will be back in full swing, and we have no control over that schedule) :look:

I say for raffle/grab bag type of thing, I say who ever wants to join in, it's lets say $10 then we add up all the money and buy a bunch of blind boxes. then lets say we have 15 boxes in all, do something like 1 2 and 3 1st gets 8 boxes 2nd gets 5 boxes and 3rd gets one, just put all the names in a hat and pull the winners at the end.

The room for 1 more event is being held on the 30th of Sept. I should know by the end of this week if we were selected for the event. The room for 1 more event is being held on the 30th of Sept. I should know by the end of this week if we were selected for the event. I'm going to say the 17th would be the best day for my wife and I. If we get tickets for the event we'll be heading down there on the 23rd of sept. If anyone has any requests if we end up going please let me know.

I say for raffle/grab bag type of thing, I say who ever wants to join in, it's lets say $10 then we add up all the money and buy a bunch of blind boxes. then lets say we have 15 boxes in all, do something like 1 2 and 3 1st gets 8 boxes 2nd gets 5 boxes and 3rd gets one, just put all the names in a hat and pull the winners at the end.

This is a GREAT idea!

I can't do the 17th. I'm guessing the 10th would be best for me, followed by the 24th.

Ok so the security issue:

I went to the guest services area and asked about doing our meet at the mall in the food court. I was given the guest services manager's name and phone number. Joe_of_war contacted her and explained what we wanted to do. She said that it was fine and that if the food court was too busy she would have an empty store ready for us if we needed to move there. Come the day of the event, we were there for maybe 50 minutes or so and everything was going fine. Then the mall manager shows up and asks what we're doing. I explain that we spoke to the guest services manager beforehand and she let us know that us meeting there was fine. He told me that basically he didn't want us there because we were taking up too many tables at their busiest time of day (despite the fact that we bought food from the food court and vinyls from the Disney store...) He called the guest services manager and then came back and said that he would put us in a store downstairs, no where near the original store that the guest services manager had said she'd have for us if we needed it. We get downstairs and instead of an empty store they put is in a sitting area in front of stores. Sigh. Couldn't even get their info right that day! The manager insisted that there must have been a miscommnication somewhere, but I couldn't politely point out that the miscommunication was theirs :rolleyes:

That sounds like a great idea asan. Or if you kind of do a Pollyanna gift exchange, where all of the blind boxes are in a pile and you pull a number and 1 - ?; each person picks a blind box and then the next person can either take an opened box or pick one that wasn't opened. Although that could take a while.

Agreed, it wasn't as noisey in that location, plus I heard people coming into the DS asking if they were doing an event in the mall --- I don't know if it was the Disney themed shirts alot of people were wearing or the rows and rows of little Vinylmation Mickeys :lol:

Of course now that our trade up is done my son is asking if he can create his own Marvel themed Vinyl :doh: And we don't have any blank mickeys; I hope I can get them at the parks in a few weeks.

It's a lottery system to get tickets. So you put your name in and your randomly selected. Mark and Sue from our meet also were granted tickets so we'll have some company while we're there. The list of merchandise is a bit insane though so I'm sure we'll come back completely broke if we can get half the items we want.

We just did that last year. We were there the first two days of the food and wine festival and hit MNSSHP earlier in the week. I've been dying thinking about not going this year. We're going the week after thanksgiving for MVMCP. I'm planning next years trip to do the F&W festival again!

We'll just be back from two plus weeks in both WDW as well as the cruise so both dates listed, the 10th and the 24th will work very nicely for us, thought for the 10th we'll proably have a better selection of the spare traders that will have made the journey back from the parks.
By the way, has anyone done a cruise since vinyls have been trading in Florida? I was just wondering if there is trading like the parks on the boats as well. Thanks.

Joe is going to be contacting the guest services manager to ensure that we're allowed to meet at the mall. If she allows us to meet at the mall again, we're going to request the tables they ended up moving us to after the food court disaster. We will post with the information once we know :)

That is terrible. I really think it's due to the amont of space they have. Although when I was there the other day, I did see a gang of about 15 teenagers sitting in a group eating so I really don't see the difference.

The mall that I'm organizing a meet I'm setting up here in NJ has a very large food court. Since you guys had issues with your meet, I asked customer service in person if it would be OK and they had no problems once I explained what we would be doing. They even mentioned that there have been book club meets and birthdays held there.

When I've met with other traders at a mall, we tried to keep the meet in the morning before the food court really gets going. Granted we were a small group.

Thanks for calling & checking with the mall Joe! I honestly think it had more to do with the fact that the guest services manager got called on her day off by the mall manager- he seemed quite annoyed that he knew nothing about the meet up when he confronted us. We weren't asking for food court space, but rather some tables set off in a remote area of the mall (where they had put us after we got kicked out of the food court.)

Anyone have any other suggestions? Possibly a different mall? If you have held a successful trade event at a different mall please list the contact info so that we can ask them about meeting up on the 10th & 24th (although we may have to go to just one day now.)

That's ridiculous that they won't allow us to meet up again. Its not like there were fights or you were disruptive. Not sure about any other area malls as far as space goes, Cherry Hill would probably have to be a no since they have a super small food court now. How about places that aren't a mall?

I think that's what we're trying to figure out- a place that isn't a mall but that will be ok no matter what the weather is like. If I had a bigger apartment I'd totally have it at my place :lol:
