WoW, I thought the Star Wars was $12.95. I can't check my boxes because it's already packed and at our new house so I'll call my brother to check on his boxes. But I thought it was $12.95. I might be wrong here.

Obi Wan Variant Chaser was something like 1 per 10 cases I believe.
October/November they will be LONG gone. You want to try and call the park and see about getting a flat shipped.

Also a word to the wise when buying single blind boxes, check the price sticker, if its been tampered with find another or do not expect a chaser, unless Disney corrected this problem from the first run. Hopefully they have though.

It's definitely cool that they posted the full prices (tax included) on the display. It's not in any of the shots, but there was also a display case behind the setup with all of the vinyls on display. It was a great way to introduce VMs to people who might not otherwise be familiar with them.

That was my initial thought, too. It's happened with other merch in previous SWWs, so it might just be a case of "x amount of trays will be available per weekend."

I suspect they'll always sell out faster than Toy Story, though - Star Wars has a much bigger collector base, and the demand for this series is accordingly astronomically higher.

I popped in Studios tonight to officially begin a hunt for the Cast Chasers, and there is indeed nary a Star Wars box to be found (even in the stores that were quietly selling them on Friday). In fact, the Jabba's Hutt store was practically cleaned out of any sort of limited edition merch.

Out of curiosity, I asked a pair of CMs about the Vinylmations, and while the one was genuinely shocked that they were sold out, the other said that yesterday (Saturday) was crazy for the vinyls. He recounted watching one woman buy up six trays, leave, come back, and buy more. It was the talk of the registers, as she dropped something north of $2000 just on Star Wars Vinylmation (I didn't ask, but I'm assuming that she had people with her so as to fit the 2-cases-per-person requirement). Judging from that descriptor, I'd say it's a safe bet that the resale market is about to be flooded with Star Wars.

The other CM (the shocked one,) said that they hadn't been told about the numbers, but they had been told that there might be more limited edition merch next week (stuff we may not have seen yet) as they sold out of way too much this week. Accordingly, Friday morning was suggested as the best time to check in to see if there were more VMs.

I'm a little surprised that they sold out, but I'm not surprised that some of the local eBay sellers would buy up literally everything they could. Jokes on them, ultimately - flood the market and they bring down the prices. Economics aren't that hard, but then no one ever accused Florida of being the brightest state in the nation (Flori-duuuuuh ).

gamecocksc17

Yep, Phlyers... that was the same story I found late Saturday night from Jabba's Hutt CM's and I think you hit the nail on the head about some of the cast members not know about the 2/person rule because I was told the same thing about a few people buying 7-8 trays at a time! No wonder they are all gone.
Things were pretty picked over as far as LE merch in general after Friday, but I wasn't too surprised honestly. The wait was CRAZY just to get into the store... I was in line about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs and that was at noon. I heard it pretty much like that most of the day. I'm guessing IF they get more Star Wars vinyls in for the remaining weekends we'll be lucky if they make it through those. Star Wars fans are a bit obsessed to say the least (hey, I can say it because I'm one of them! :) ) and between the collectors and the ebayers unless Disney holds some back, I'd say they'll be gone in no time.

Absolutely - and it isn't like it is just two blind boxes - the rule is 2 trays of 24 - clearly any bona fide collector would be fine with this rule - it is only the ebay resellers that would have a problem with it (like the greedy woman who was reported to have bought 6 trays - obviously all for her yeah right! lol!).

diehardguardgirl
05-23-2011, 03:42 PM
Plus, with Disney's usual high quality of service, I'm surprised to hear some cast members are well, surprised! You'd think with something as big a vinylmation, they'd have employee meetings about it and stuff... I've never had a question a cast member couldn't help with. I'm surprised there's so much confusion.

:agree: They are good about enforcing other rules - like when the ap discount could not be used for purchases $10 and under . This rule should be pretty basic to enforce. Have a sign up at the cash register, and the cms simply have to point to the sign when guests try to break the rules!

I still can't wrap my head around someone buying that many cases at once. But I guess that's because I never have enough vinyl funds saved to buy myself cases on my trips

This really aggrivates me!!! I am going to be in WDW for the last 2 SWW and I was expecting to be able to get at least some BB if not 1 Full Tray. I'm really not going to get my hopes too high now because I don't want to be dissapointed. My question is what about the trays in Tattoine Traders I saw they were fully stocked too and would think their CM's would be less makeshift than the Jabba's Hut CM's. I will still enjoy SWW's but there willl definitely be something missing from my trip if I miis out on the SW Vinyls. :(

If these were only at D-Street this would never happen:mad:

DizVinyl
05-23-2011, 04:09 PM
Nope - Tattoine Traders were out as well and I don't believe D-Street receive them this time.

I was at Tatooine Traders today buying some stuff, and when I asked about SW vinylmation the CM said it woud possibly be back in stock this weekend, but more incredibly he told me that his manager had put 11 TRAYS on hold for himself this past weekend.

Someone is selling 14 sealed cases and has already sold 7 of them from Florida. That's why we can't get any.

There seem to be two sellers with multiple cases of star wars. I have bought from both these guys and they are good sellers but you really have to wonder how they got so many cases when they are supposed to be limited. It doesn't seem right when so many people miss out actually at the parks just because these guys take all the stock!

I don't usually attend the first SWW, so I'm kind of shocked at how much merch is gone. In years previous, the LE pins and whatnot would stick around in some capacity through the second weekend, and you could still find good stuff - in very limited quantities - on the third. According to the CMs I talked to, though, this year, nearly everything is already gone.

All things considered, I'm glad I waited in that two hour line on Friday, as at least I managed to snag the LEs I was interested in, but it's a bummer for folks coming in for the future weekends.

D-Street has their own problems.

Sadly, all of Studios was out of the vinyls. On Friday, we saw them at Tatooine Traders, the Stage 1 Company Store (the Muppets gift shop), and Jabba's Hutt. Checked them all again on Sunday, and the story was the same for each.

I'll be back at the Studios Friday / Saturday / Sunday again, so I'll keep you posted with SW Vinyl sightings! :cross:

Ditto! Between the two of us, somebody will find them if they're back this weekend!

That's not cool. But it would explain the word going around with the CMs that one in every ten cases would have a Ghost Obi Wan. Our VN numbers say different, but then we're always better informed. :D

Yeah, I'm pretty sure if a lot of people get riled up then maybe something can be done about this. I sure as well hoping that I'm able to get one at the DLR release. Anyone know if they'll have star wars at D-street on that June 4, the same day as the signing within the park?

By 3pm on Saturday Jabba's Hut was down to half a tray. I hope the held some back for this weekend. I'll be heading back to Hollywood Studios this Friday in hopes of picking up a a few stormtroopers and maybe a Han and Luke for some homemade variants. I was lucky enough to blindbox an Obi Wan last weekend... Now to track down Ghost Obi ;)

Maybe I'm missing something, but are these only available at Hollywood Studios?? Cuz I thought "park exclusive" was exclusive enough!

Also, is there some way for US to report this evil CM? Or do we just hope the other CMs realize the badness? I do not trust them to realize the badness.

Just reading some of your stories from Florida are teaching us alot out here in Cali. Sad so many ebayers are hoarding all the cases over there. I've also heard Florida is picked over on everything other than SW. Just way more people w/ big wallets spending over there in general than DLR. Also, we may not know it but from my business we are noticing people are spending money way more freely than last year during this same time period. Meaning the economy is taking a quiet turn for the better.

I did let Guest Relations know. Of course this is just what a CM told me so there is no real way to prove that it's true or that the manager did end up actually purchasing 11 trays, but I informed them that as an employee and a customer that kind of thing just isn't acceptable (actually I used the words 'pisses me off'). They thanked me for passing along the info, but I'm sure it will make no difference

It's not cool, but how do they police it? CMs can be consumers, too, but it's disheartening when they have a crack at the merch before regular old customers. On a slightly related note, I hate to say it, but as has been pointed out, with such "trustworthy" CMs, how many of the Cast Chasers can we really expect to find in the trader boxes versus in managers' pockets?

Currently, yes they are sold out but it's anybody guess as to if WDW will have more. A couple of us have been told by CM's at Hollywood Studios Saturday & Sunday after after they were all gone that they MAY have some more this coming weekend for the next SWW. I will be there as will Phlyers and we both will be checking and posting updates to let everyone know the status each day as to whether or not SW Vinyls are available. I hope this helps... For fans in Florida who are attending Star Wars™ Weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios™, we have good news! The Vinylmation - Star Wars Series #1 will be back in stock AND, to celebrate, we are holding a special meet and greet with Disney Artist Mike Sullivan who designed the series. He will be signing figures on May 27 and May 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Jabba's Hut (the specially designed merchandise location located near Disney's Rock 'N Roller Coaster).

I don't mean to sound like an a-hole here, but why is everyone flipping out about Star Wars now? I spent 2 weeks at WDW at the end of January/beginning of February, the first week SW was only available at D St, and they had plenty, then the second part of my trip Star Wars was available at the park and everywhere else and there was tons of them. Is it because Vader & R2 hit $40 on eBay that made everyone all of a sudden want them or?? I knew I wanted my Star Wars so when I saw it I bought it, so why did everyone wait? Also this is not a limited release so there should be flats just like every other set in the coming weeks and with prices on eBay dipping WAY down the "Scalpers" will stop buying them when they can't make a huge profit on them.

TheOneTheyDontSpeakOf

For me, it was irritating that they ran out so fast. But they seem to have tons of urbans and tons of animations and cutesters. Whether it's because Disney didn't make enough, or it was in high demand since it had been anticipated for so long, it sold out fast. I think everyone is worried of a repeat of events

I think you were in the right place at the right time. I was at DLR on release day and they all sold out by (I think) lunchtime the next day. It was quite a few weeks before they got any in again at either D-Street but it must have just been when you were there - lucky!

I think it's more just pent up frustration.

The demand was huge, and while the initial supply was great, it didn't last two months before selling out. A lot of us were in that initial purchase crop (myself included), but a lot of newer VM collectors or collectors who don't have access to the parks were forced to wait - again, on top of all the initial delays - to have a chance at any of Star Wars 1. And for those of us in the initial buying crowd, we had to wait months to go after any army-building or Ghost Obi Wan pursuits.

The fervor will certainly die down in a few months (as, I agree, will the resale prices), but the series will always remain popular thanks to attracting two separate collector bases, both dedicated, one positively massive.

:agree: And also (this is probably way out there) I can't help but think that Disney is purposely driving up the hype for these. I don't know- it's strange that they were plentiful for the star wars weekends, and then all of a sudden they are gone. Now they are going to be coming back, but I bet you anything they will be gone again until the next weekend (or however star wars weekends works- it's hard to keep up )

Maybe someone else brought this up already, and maybe I'm completely off base since I'm not really in touch with the going ons of the parks. But while Disney does not gain anything from a series selling out and resellers hitting it big, I would not put it past them to use it to their advantage- whether it be putting the fear in collectors to get them at a good price before they are gone, or making resellers see the big bucks in stocking up on this series.

It's also pretty funny how they not only announced the "resell" of star wars for star wars weekends, but how they also made a special announcement concerning them being back in stock. I remember HAL had disappeared from the shelves for an exceptionally long time once, and when they finally came back, the blog didn't say one word about it at the time. And yet, star wars is being "restocked" after apparently selling out again after one weekend... and that is vm blog newsworthy?

I personally thought it would be around just like muppets and toy story and i would have plenty of time to snag it.

I was moving into a new house at the time they were released and wasn't really on top of vinylmation at the time as I didn't have internet installed immediately and I was working 5 or 6 days a week and before I knew it it was gone. So it was a set that I really wanted that I figured I could take my sweet time collecting.

And yes I imagine disney is hyping these "re-releases" big time. It's star wars a huge profit maker no matter what.

TheOneTheyDontSpeakOf
05-26-2011, 10:47 AM
ITA, it's a business ploy. Look how long they made us wait for the release! We went in march, and they were no longer available. Fortunately, I had my whole set by then. But sometimes the enjoyment of opening a blindbox from a set you really like is fun. And that was what I was hoping to do. But there were none left.

But Disney wants more anticipation for a series already released. So I believed they short changed the stock and now made everyone wait for the release again. There's no reason that the SW set couldn't be ready for the demand the first time around.

I agree, I doubt they will be around like TS or Cutesters. Hopefully they will, I just don't see it. Prolly as scarce as HAL was in the beginning.

Oh, totally. :agree: It's entirely possible that Disney is helping to drive the hype. I mean, I think it would be there anyway, since it is Star Wars, but it definitely doesn't hurt Disney that maybe arm-chair collectors are seeing all the attention on the VM Blog and in the community and getting excited.

But then it is a pretty good set to be excited for.

Of course, Disney could also just be serving their customers - I'm sure it gets back to management how many people were asking CMs about the vinyls.

I'm really thinking they will only be available on the SWW Starting on each Friday. Once the lot of what they put out is gone they won't restock till the next Friday for SWW. Like Phylers said they would need to keep the LE merch on the shelves during SWW. I myself will be getting to WDW on Sunday the 5th, and am hoping I can get a tray then. But if not I will be at the gate of HWS on that following Friday waiting for the gates to open so if they will be restocked I will get a tray. Should be a fun morning, because I will be waking up early to get a Goof Troop Set from DS.com and then off to HWS.

I loved the new display in Jabba's! The huge pile of loose blind boxes stacked on the floor looked great; if life were a cartoon, I'd have happily dove in.

And keeping the sealed trays behind the counter was another good idea - I suspect it's easier for them to enforce the "two trays per person" rule when people have to specifically ask for the trays.

Two great changes, Disney!

I know there have been a few members trying to keep tabs on the stock of SW Vinyls, especially those that have trips planned for the 2nd & 3rd SWW's. I was at the "Hut" late Sunday and it seemed that the supply was doing pretty well. They had a MUCH better handle on controlling the limit on trays with keeping them behind a counter or with the LE merchandise. Even the single boxes seem to be heavily "guarded" by CM's at all times. :) LOL

I was back at DHS today for a short time in the morning and was in a few shops on my way out. It does not appear that they are putting out the SW Vinyls in any of the stores during the regular days in an effort to ensure the most availably to SWW guests. YAY! This does however, make me wonder if the quantities are starting to get low - you wouldn't think Disney would want to miss out on sales through the week + the weekends unless they felt they had to... just a though.

Anyway, that's the scoop for now! :)

Thanks For the update DizVinyl. It's much appreciated by those of us who have trips planned for the last 2 SWW. This gives me hope that I might bae able to get a tray next Sunday, instead of having to wait for the last SWW. Honestly I think that they are keeping all SW LE merch held Back only for the weekends. They will make the $$$ no matter what because the LE stuff is limited and will sell out on the weekends if they allow. I woudl have to figure they know that if the LE merch was all gone they would get less traffic in the "Hutt" since I'm sure it would be known by the collecting community it is gone.

Unfortunately, the situation regarding the LE merchandise isn't so rosy. Compared to what was available on the first Friday and into Saturday, what's left is a pittance. They even had to hastily add new LE merch just to shore up the shortened tables. :( I'm still shocked as to how fast it all went; I guess the hardcore collectors (Friday) and local eBay hounds (Saturday) came out in droves.

There's still tons to buy in Jabba's Hutt, though, as the bulk of the store is not LE merch. There are also photo ops along the back wall.

TheOneTheyDontSpeakOf
05-31-2011, 02:44 AM
It's been my experience that if you aren't there the first day, you won't get much of the great LE merchandise. We were there only 2 days after And it was cleaned completely out.

So here's a new development: I popped in Studios tonight, and there were none to be found. Jabba's Hutt was devoid of vinyls, as were Tatooine Traders and the Stage One Company Store. :pout:

I didn't stop to ask about it, but could they really be out again? I'm kind of hoping they've just started holding the vinyls for sale on Saturdays and Sundays, but seeing as Fridays are part of SWW, it'd be kind of odd.

Is this the last weekend of Star Wars Weekend , I am shocked that WDW is already sold out :yikes:

I wouldn't be to surprised about this... The vinyls were flying off the shelves in Jabbas Hut last weekend and when I spoke to a manager on Friday's artist signing she said they were only holding back vinyls to ensure enough for the Saturday signing and beyond that they would restock till they were gone.
You know they've set asside a certain amount for the DLR re-release but my guess is these won't last long eithet. I think even Disney undetestimated popular these little guys are. Being here for SWW, I can't tell you the number of people buying that aren't VM collectors - theys they just love star wars!

TheOneTheyDontSpeakOf
06-04-2011, 07:08 AM
Yes but shame on them for not realizing that a set they dangled in front of us for a full year wouldn't be so popular

Honestly, this second restock thing, should have lasted. It's a business ploy and it bugs me :tap:

So I just came from Jabba's Hut and they've confirmed the SELLOUT here at WDW. There will be no more coming in even for SWW's. :(

Will be interesting to see how things go ar DLR.

So I got to DLR Dstreet at 8:15, line already. By the time I got in to get my trays there weren't many left. After I purchased mine, I looked behind the counter and there were less than 7 cases left. I asked the CM if that was the rest of the cases they had. He said yes, that they didn't get that large of a shipment. I predict by now (9am) there is either very few to none left. Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up. I haven't been inside the park though.

It's okay, Tot. :pet: Maybe when we go later this year we can complain about how Disneyland is not the happiest place on earth because we wanted to get our SW case and there was nothing left. Then we can demand they renew our APs for free for our troubles.

Next-to-last.

I'm not entirely shocked, but I'm certainly disappointed. We haven't even been teased with Star Wars 2 yet, but they've sold out of Star Wars 1 twice. I mean, do we see another restock, or do they just move on?

That's just lousy. Considering how low the other SWW merch stock is, I'm just short of wondering if someone in the ordering department needs to be demoted. Everything seems to have been underestimated save for the action figure packs and the die-cast Star Tours cars. :pout:

I'm still holding out hope that more magically materialize, but it's only a faint glimmer. As in, I really don't expect it at all.

As with your other comment, the sad thing is how many people really did catch the VM bug at SWW. I lost count of how many people asked questions about VM, about trading. People were trading off the other half of their Star Wars cases; kids were swapping for Toy Story characters (or anything that caught their eye, really), with parents getting involved, "oh, no - we don't want that baby!" It was a great inroad for people. Now, apparently, it's over for SWW.

does anyone know if there are any remaining at DLR D-Street ?
Perhaps there are some "inside" the park somewhere ?
Any help is appreciated! My AP doesnt "work" today, but I can go in tomorrow.

Although I can understand the sell out this time around due to the reintroduction of these at the same time as reopening Star Tours (smart move), I am disappointed that Disney seems to have once again underestimated their product here. How do they not order a buttload this time around simply based on how quickly the original release sold out earlier this year. Still just gonna keep the fingers crossed that more reinforcements are on the way and this is just an initial temporary sell out.

I checked back at around 10 AM (after D-street I was at WoD looking for backscratchers ) And there were no more trays behind the counter, which leads me to believe that they are out. In my earlier post I mentioned that I asked a CM if that was all the trays they had, and the CM said yes. He said they didn't get very many. I have no idea of the inventory within the parks. Disney really screwed up with the production of these vinyls...they aren't ONLY for VM collectors - SW fans in general snatched em up as well!

Seriously! If I was in charge of ordering, I think I would have slapped a few extra 0's on that production request.

i don't think they have them at star traders but they sell them at the little green men store..and they had quite a few boxes left last night...the weird thing is that i went saturday morning to buy 1 tray for my self and there were some that bought two trays...i went back later at night to buy a few blind boxes and another lady was trying to buy 2 cases but the cast members working that shift wouldn't let her buy 2 cases for some reason

Whatever is left for inventory at Disneyland has been moved from the LGM store over to Star Traders. While I was there (about an hour ago) they had a couple of open cases mixed in with the rest of VM display (with maybe a dozen blind boxes left) and when I asked the CM if they had any sealed cases in back she told me that there were "a couple" left back there.

I got there at opening ime, 8am, and the lines to get to Star Tours were L-O-N-G already!
Went directly to Star Traders, and bought two cases, there was a guy in front of me who bought two, and a group of people behind me all who were buying at least one case. CM said there was "some" back in storage, but wouldnt define how many.
I got a few blind boxes as well, since I had to open something on the spot, got an R2-D2, a Darth Vader (nice) and a Chewy....
All in all a great morning and a brisk walk..... I dont think they make it thru the day, due to the crowds and limited qtys....
