When I was last at the downtown disney VM store, one of the cast members said that they were going to stop doing non-black mystery box trades.

Is this true?

You mean the clear box? and which D-street DLR?

This was the big store that sold Vinylmation - with Star Wars/superhero merch in the back.

I assume the clear boxes.

actually, i went around trading at dtd wdw this week, no big babies or gears to be found, the new residents of the clear boxes are the cutesters kids and hippie/biker guy.

The same things in the clear trade boxes are about just the same in the black trade boxes. I was lucky once by finding a park 2 monkey in the clear trade box though

I sure hope this isn't the case! I was hoping to get my first trading experience in a couple weeks!

They said it was a possibility that they were going to get rid of the clear boxes, but that was a while ago. I hope that they'll implement the Vinylmation jrs. although they'll end up with all of the Good luck/Bad luck set(w/o the Good Luck Cat).

To the comments about the "bad" vinyls in the box. I think disney is getting rid of duplicates, more specifially big babies, phils, bikers, quasi, etc. so there's more to choose from. At the emporium there were 4 empty spaces where the doups were removed. Dont get me wrong, you still get big babies, phils, bikers, quasi, etc. but you'll also have a chance to get cutesters too, big eyes, urban, park, etc.

This would be unfortunate because many good figures can be found in the clear boxes. I've found a few Park 4's, some Park 2's and others have found chasers

I hope that they do not do away with the clear trade boxes. I got Tom Morrow from there LOL. I kinda like seeing what you can trade for vs the mystery boxes.

YOU did? I'm sure a kid that didnt know anything about vinyls traded that away. Probably a boy because it has all of those candy hearts.

I was there until the 25th of April and I was able to do trading with the mystery black box, and now the disneystores will be doing trading at the end of May according to the manager in Las Vegas Store.

The boxes still exist but sadly we do not have the option of keeping them if we dont like the trade

When I was at D-Street the weekend before last there was not a window box. Just a four sided black box that had colored spaces to pick instead of numbers. It was different but fun. Each time we went by D-Street there were people outside trading Vinyl too. I wasn't carrying anything special so I didn't stop and talk.

d-street florida used to have 3 clear boxes for trading. Now they just have 1 plus 1 for minis and the infamous black numbered box.

No more clear boxes? I hope not! I completed my Urban 4 series and got a Park 3 chaser from a clear box!

Has anyone found out if this is true? I like the clear boxes because I like seeing what I'm getting before I give one of my figures up. I hope they keep the clear boxes!

I don't think this is true. If anything, they'll be stopping the mystery boxes as they keep breaking

I would have great sadness if they got rid of trading, it gives the figures people didn't want a second chance and a second chance to get something else. The glass box is usually good for back up, but the DTD DL D-Street Box is usually spammed by common and unwanted stuff. At least they leave the box eventually.

Hmm if they did more clear boxes instead of mystery boxes, you'd at least be able to pick, but then if you're cursed with commons, it's gonna be annoying...

i talked to a few cast members and they were saying so many traders are so rude to them wanting the good vinyls and leaving garbage in return. they would rather get rid of the black box just so the rudeness will stop. i don't think the trading will go away but it will never be at the level it was at a few months ago

I really don't like when I am about to trade with the mystery box cast member and I get a bunch of "hoverers" standing behind me salivating waiting to see what I am about to trade for. Or those people that stand behind the cast member to see all the figures behind the panel. I think this is why Disney redesigned the D Street box to being a cube instead of a square so when they remove the panel you can only see four figures as opposed to seeing ALL figures available if you're standing behind the cast member. I say do away with the mystery box and just leave the 3 clear options instead to do away with guests being rude to the cast members and the "hoverers." That's just my two cents.

I like the combo of the mystery and clear. If I see something that is reasonable in the clear box I'll usually trade out of the mystery and if I don't like that well I trade for what I liked in the clear box. It's a nice back up. And if I don't like what I got at all I hit up every store that trades until I get something I like. Heck I even got an orange clear from the clear box and this was a couple weeks ago. Granted it's not a popular series but I like it and that OS all that matters :)

I really hope thye don't get rid of trading! The clear box or the mystery box. I haven't been to WDW since I started collecting. I have only had the experience at my local Disney Stores and I have to say that I literally can't wait to get to my local store to see what is in the box! It haunts me all throughout my week! I would be hugely disappointed if they eliminated trading from WDW before I even got to take part and if they got rid of it for the DS I would just die!!

Doesn't always work when the clear box had something that was also in the black box.

I'm hoping maybe nicer fillers and selections will be in blind boxes and once the older waves are retired, people can be more satisfied. Recent waves have had nicer filler, I'm fine with filler like Phil, Jukebox, Monstro, Mufasa, and muppet penguins.

Brand new store here opened last Wednesday. No trading yet, but I hope it's coming.
They had 5 cases of Lion King and 1 open box at opening.
On Friday afternoon they had 1 open box of LK.

I don't see them doing away with trading. Sure, it may be a hassle for them, but if people have no where to trade the figures they don't want/like/need or already have, people are going to stop buying as many vinyls. We keep doing blind boxes until we have a set completed, knowing that we can trade away any extras. If we couldn't trade those extras, it would seem like a waste of money getting doubles and triples of figures that we don't need. And if I felt like I was wasting my money, I would stop buying.

Yes a big reason i got into this was being able to trade so it would be very disappointing of them getting rid of them. With new sets and new collectors there will always be decent stuff. if you got something you didn't like oh well trade it next time or at next box.

Agreed!! That's what makes blind boxing fun! You never know which one you will get, and when you trade, its the same! lol The black box is fun, but I have found some good vinyls through the clear box trade...Sure hope they don't stop it!

So as a newbie that hasnt even bought any vinylmation from the theme parks or anything, they sell blind boxes that you cant see in? and you just hope its something amazing? cause that would be pretty cool and by the looks of it, nobody wants it to stop haha.

I saw that the Disney Store i purchased my first tray from had trading events every 2 weeks i beleive. thought that was cool but i dont live close enough to attend.

the parks have these boxes with numbers on it, and inside each panel is a different vinyl figure someone else left. So you offer a figure and pick a number. If you're lucky you might leave with something nice, if fail, then just try again another time...

the whole numbered box thing is great but i found when first collecting some VM the rules to the boxes changed from location to location. before they told me it was 2 picks per person then they started saying one, the boxes in the park you dont have to trade if you dont like, but the one in d street you must trade it no matter what

ive also had really nice employees in the past who asked me if i was looking for anything, i dont see that happen so much anymore

You know what? I was just asking about this today, and the CMs I asked hadn't a clue why clear trade boxes are disappearing. I remember when every other store had one (Mouse Gear, for example, would have 4 in one section!) and frankly, some CMs make mystery trading kinda miserable because it's either like I'm bothering them in asking OR they have this sort of strict superiority thing going on. Clear box trading at least gives you an alternative option insteading of being forced to give up your trader for something you wouldn't want in the first place.

And yeah, I dislike when you have other traders clinging right on your every choice. Particularly when you discover that person gets something better because you inadvertently "help" them. :/

Aaaand I just realized this is all DL talk. But it's still relevant.

We keep running into the problem where the store doesn't have enough cast members and they won't even bring out the trade box... It is pretty frustrating and I think it would be much worse especially if I was making a long trip just to trade.
