Last summer for the 55th Anniversary of Disneyland, D23 held a scavenger hunt that looked like a total blast. Well, this year for the 40th Anniversary of Walt Disney World, D23 is at it again!
Date: May 12-13 (WDW is so big you need two days to do it )
From Here: (http://d23.disney.go.com/expo/05121311_EE_WDWGreatDisneyScavengerHunt.html)
The Hunt is on… Again!
Get ready to explore the World as D23 hosts the Great Disney Scavenger Hunt at the Walt Disney World Resort! Teams will take off across all four of the Resort's signature theme parks in search of answers to some challenging — but fun! — questions. Think you know everything there is to know about Walt Disney World? This will be the ultimate test as you and your team race against the clock to gather as many points as possible. The top 10 teams will win fantastic prizes, including goodies and collectibles from our friends at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Adventures by Disney, Walt Disney Records, the Walt Disney Collectors Society, Walt Disney Publishing and the Walt Disney Archives.
Because the resort is so big, we've made this hunt a two-day affair! Your team will have the chance to answer our quizzical queries inside the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom. Because we have a whole World to cover, the rules and registration will be different from the D23 hunt that took place at Disneyland last year. So please read all the rules below very carefully. Comfortable shoes and attire are recommended!
Once we're done tallying the totals, we'll announce the winners — and the top teams can collect their bounties! Think you're up to the challenge? We can't wait to find out
So who is going to participate? I know I really want too! Will there be a VinylNation team that takes the hunt by storm? Are we going to have rival teams? Any out of towners going to come join us? Let hear it!
We're going to list the Vinylnation teams here! So respond to the thread and let us know who your teammates are! Or if your looking for a team, you can see who still needs members! Don't forget those team names!

I'd be game!
Of course, I'll need to find a team in need of a free agent first.
I was worried it was D23-only (as I think the DLR Scavenger Hunt was), but I'm glad Disney opened up the field. With a team of four, the price is downright too good to ignore!

Well, here's the information that's finally released.

But it's $175 :yikes:. If I can get the money, I'll definitely attend this one.

Yes, I totally agree with you. I'm sure there's plenty of other events, specially the one in the summer.

I may be willing to field a team, especially since I'm a D23 member, but I have to speak with the people I'm going on a Disney Cruise with the week before to see if they want to do it  And the weekend before is Expedition Everest. It's going to be a Disney filled week for me!

This sounds lots of fun. But it's during regular days and I seriously doubt my brother and my other friend can join my team, if I make one up, because they won't be able to get off work. But it looks like it's a lot of fun. I'll have to ask.

I want to do the hunt! I just need a team. :) I'm only doing the hunt (while the other thing would be interesting, I just don't have the money to do both the hunt and the other stuff)
$60 per team for D23 Members (up to four people); $85 per team for non-members (up to four people).
So, need 3 more people, anyone want to join my team? Or have room for me?

I'm just saying, I see four of us as solidly interested (five with Disneyobsessed168 - wasn't sure if you were interested or just sort of thinking about it :)), and the teams are of four people. http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff78/SavoryTina/album%20name/AllSmileysTags/ed225a081f07b1bc22147003035618bcebb.gif
By A-Team rules, there seems a potential plan that could come together.

That would be pretty cool! I imagine the competition will be pretty stiff, but if there are any vinyl questions, I think we've all got a leg up!

This might be a dumb question but, for anyone who did DL's scanverger hunt last year, were you allowed to run in the parks?

It's actually stated in the rules that there's no running.
•No running at any point. Any team seen running by D23 Scavenger Hunt representatives or Walt Disney World Security may be disqualified.
It fails to address very rapid walking, moderately trotting, or swiftly sashaying.

I really really really want to attend these event, lol. Hmmmm, maybe I can ge someone to sponsor me, lol. I'm also wondering if they'll have like a special vinylmation for this or will they just release any specials on The Florida Project.
Another question, who has attended last year's Destination D: DL, is it worth $175.

 swiftly sashaying  I'm not even sure what that would look like.
I'm more curious as to what the questions are like. Is it trivia about the parks? Clues they've placed around the parks? Clues that may already be in the parks? Etc, etc, etc?
Ya know, if we need to study for it!!!

I remember reading about the winning team's strategy was to answer everything they knew right off the bat and only go look for the ones they didn't know/weren't sure. So studying might be good
I'm wondering if they are going to use the same clues in Animal Kingdom that they are going to use for Exhibition Everest, because if so, I'll know those!

I am sooooooo interested in this!!! I have always wanted to participate in a scanvenger hunt... especially at Disney. I am trying to recruit my brother (lucky_chaser_puller) right now, and since I am mega super shy I think we will sign up as just a twosome. I may try to recruit my other brother and his wife or even my parents... so we may be a foursome. Not too sure yet though. But I am for sure interested in this, it sounds like a lot of fun!!!

Ahhh. That's what I was thinking. It makes the most sense. Studying is in order then!
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the questions are the same, since there are only so many things you can use as questions. But I wouldn't think there would be a lot the same :(
I'm curious if people in the Hunt will be able to go on rides and be like fastpass people, since the rules made it sound like some of the answers are on the rides. That would stink to get stuck on a long line and lose most of the time in the park

I hope they don't hit you with some of the questions like they do in the lounges on the cruise line, one of the questions was "who was the first person to go on a ride at WDW?? and no it wasn't Walt.. I don't remember the answer but a lady that was on the ship wrote all the answers down from her last cruise and there was a LOT of repeat questions and that happened to be one of them.. I thought it would be questions like what is the partner name to Chip or what cloths does Donald Duck ware if any. things like that.. no such luck, it was hard core questions so if this is anything like that WOW good luck to all of you.

Couldn't have been. Walt had died (or been frozen, depending on who you ask ) five years prior to WDW opening the Magic Kingdom.
The first guest through the turnstiles was William Windsor, Jr and family. I'd guess they were the first ones to officially get on a ride.

From what I've read about the DLR Scavenger Hunt last year, there are clues that require actually riding rides, but some folks apparently didn't want to risk the time. The lines shouldn't be too bad (:cross:) for WDW, though. Most of the area schools don't let out until the first week of June this year. for scavenger hunters, for schoolkids.
And I totally agree about doing a little studying.

Chemnerd09 and I will be attending the scavenger hunt. It sounds like a fun couple of days. Hopefully, we can put our knowledge of WDW to the test. We had planned to attend the D23 Destination D on the 14th and 15th too, but it seems a little pricey.
Has anyone ever attended a Destination D event before? Other than 2 days of lectures, what else is usually included? Is it worth the $175?

We'll be participating in the scavenger hunt, but the registration fee for the D23 WDW 40th is a little too high for us.
Hope to meet some of the great VN members at the scavenger hunt. Happy hunting!!

Thanks for that link - I saw we didn't win (thanks to Twitter and hashtags ), but I hadn't seen the official score breakdown. I think we did pretty good considering that the top 3 teams supposedly consisted of ringers.
Bummer they don't break it down by park or show your graded test books.
Oh, and I hope you're feeling better! Personally, at the end, I felt more drained than at the end of a twelve mile run (I may have actually been functionally unconscious for parts of the Magic Kingdom :look:).

Congrats! AK was indeed grueling, but I get the feeling that everyone was unhappiest concerning their first park due to the learning curve of the clues. And some of the missing clues.
If the hunt is in WDW again next year, I might be interested in taking another shot, too, but I think I read that it's going to alternate coasts.
Having the experience can only help, though!
