View Full Version : Snow White Mine Coaster Confirmed for FL
http://parksandresorts.wdpromedia.com/media/disneyparks/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/dwa283454LARGE.jpg
It's official folks. Announced on the Disney Parks Blog:
As with any project of this scale, we’ve also continued to look for additional ways to surprise and delight our guests and I think you’ll be pleased. One opportunity we’re especially excited about is the chance to tell Snow White’s story in a fresh new way. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will take you on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” The coaster will feature a first-of-its kind ride system with a train of ride vehicles that swing back and forth as they whisk along the track. The journey will be accompanied by music from the classic Disney film and animated figures of Snow White and the Dwarfs.
Our other Disney princesses will also be getting a new home (actually, they prefer to call it a castle) in the all new Princess Fairytale Hall. Aurora, Cinderella and other Disney princesses, such as Tiana and Rapunzel, will greet you in an elegant royal court at the location where Snow White’s Scary Adventures is today. This new experience will be in place of some of the earlier plans we shared regarding opportunities to interact with your favorite princesses.

So they are taking out Snow White's Scary Adventures?
Yes, Scary Adventures is out.
In summary the changes to the original plan are:
Aurora's and Cinderella's personal meet & greet sites are scrapped. In their place (physically) will be the new mine coaster.
Scary Adventures is being closed, turned into a Princess meet & greet.
Tinkerbell's pixie hollow is scrapped, Tink & co. moving to EPCOT
What many assumed would be Casey Jr.s Circus Train overhaul of Barnstormer (but was never official) is now Goofy as The Great Goofini
Overall I think this is a more well rounded Fantasyland Expansion.
I made a quick comparison image from the original concept to todays:
http://reltru.com/bin/files/124a407250ea.gif
You'll notice another change I didn't mention above because they didn't say but I can't help but notice...
Toon Town tents are still in place? Maybe it's not moving?

So they are taking out Snow White's Scary Adventures?
That seems to be the idea but I'm sure they won't until the new area is completed because they will be out 1 ride/attraction if they did that
Incredible

This is exciting!!! I so can't wait to see everything when it is finished. It saddens me though that Snow White's Scary Adventure is going away. :(

Wow! I actually enjoy Snow White's Scary Adventures. Hopefully it is not just a complete removal, but they move it over by the new mine train coaster. Or re-add it if they have later plans.

No, it seems like it's a complete removal. And I doubt they'll move it. It's not as popular as say, Dumbo.
I'm  about no Pixie Hollow. (I'm probably the only one though)

I don't think Pixie Hollow will be a permanent fixture at Epcot. It seems Tink and friends will make a seasonal appearance for the F&G Festival.
On another note, does a mod want to merge this with the existing Fantasyland Expansion thread?

I am actually really excited for this. I'm glad that WDW is getting an entirely new attraction. In fact, I really didn't even know that WDW was planning to do an all new attraction for WDW. I thought it was just going to be the Little Mermaid ride, bigger Dumbo and more meet-and-greets. The meet-and-greets are fine, but it seems like that's all they were falling back on. (And I personally think Pixie Hollow at DLR is out of place).
The Disney Blog was quoted a few weeks ago in the NY Times about the new HP area at Islands of Adventure, and that Disney might need to respond with more than just a revamped character area. It's great to see that Disney is stepping it up and adding more ride based attractions. It will be sad to see Snow White's Scary adventures go at WDW, but just more reason for east coasters to visit DLR.

Very true, but a bit disappointing since WDW does tell the better and longer story of the movie.

Nah, this'll be just for the new coaster :)

Can't wait for the new expansion. I'm sorry to see that Snow White's Scary Adventures is going though. I really like this attraction, but I'm sure chemnerd won't be sorry to see it go. This attraction has helped make some great memories over the years, in fact, chemnerd won't go on this one even to this day (15+ years later).
The mine train coaster sound like a great ride too. Hope it doesn't get scrapped in the future like some of the others.

I don't know exactly where they will put them. If they get placed in the World Showcase, I would assume England would be the place, but where? There is that little garden area in the back of England.
If they are put in Future World, I would assume they would be somewhere near the Land. It makes sense for them to be at EPCOT since that park focuses on the environment and they do have the Flower and Garden festival there every year. I'm just not sure where they will be going.
The other question is...will there be a full out Pixie Hollow? Or will it just be a meet and greet area like at the Magic Kingdom?
Rick
Nah, theres not time for it to get scrapped at this point. They are saying the whole area will be done by the end of 2012, and theres clearly a LOT of major construction left to do (like, say, start building a whole new coaster ride, complete with detailed mine themes and snow whites cottage.) They will have to get started pretty soon on this to meet their deadlines. The Little Mermaid building and Gastons Tavern structures are up, but they still have to move Dumbo, add a 2nd one, build a tent, retheme a coaster, build a restaurant (and castle!), etc. over the next 22 months.
There's no room for them to back out of this one, plan something else, and get it in there in time.

Actually they're saying that it'll be finished in phases and the majority of it'll be done by 2013
The New Fantasyland will be constructed in phases with most new experiences open by 2013. We look forward to sharing more with you as our work progresses.

Specifically, this part jumped out:
Gone entirely are earlier plans for a fairy-themed area that Disney had originally said was to be called "Pixie Hollow." Disney said it will instead build a greeting area for fairies inside its Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park.
I'm thinking both sources could be right. Tinker Bell and her crew have been increasing their presence at the Flower and Garden Fest every year for the past three or four, so it would make sense for them to play a larger part, but a permanent home might make more sense in Studios. Guess we'll have to await more info (or a correction from either source).

The Studios seem like a great place for Tink and friends. The first place I thought of was a retheming of the HISTK playground.

This coaster is going to rule the world!
During the press event one of the imagineers said something along the lines of Barnstormer/Great Goofini still being the "my first coaster" and this would be like a "my 2nd coaster" -- or at least thats what someone posted on the internet...:gossip:
I personally think it will be like Big Thunder Lite... a fast moving train, but more like PoTC level drops. I think the swaying carts will add to the thrill (maybe feeling like you might tip out, etc.) but otherwise it will be more fun than thrilling.
I also heard there would be a (albeit low) height restriction as well.

01-20-2011, 03:48 PM
I sure hope they treat it more like a real coaster than Barnstormers. The one train system of Barnstormers makes it the slowest line other than Dumbo.
Personally I'm disappointed they are removing Snow White's Scary Adventures. I don't understand why they don't make more of this type of ride at WDW vs. less. Since it is basically a ride telling the story of a movie, maybe it will go to an empty sound stage in DHS eventually?
About Pixie Hollow, it seems the movie just didn't do as well as expected. I'm guessing that is why they are changing it. Plus, Tink really isn't a Princess and since Fantasyland is becoming more about Princess than Walt's original animated movies maybe it makes sense for the faeries to go to DHS plus be in Epcot for Flower and Garden. If permanent in Epcot, btw, there is a large unused area that would be a natural for a meet and greet in the same building the other character meet and greets are in...they would just need to theme it and since it faces the Land it could be a natural fit. Or, they could build an attraction in DHS, which would probably be even better.

It is rumored that Tink is going to be taking over the Prince Caspian set at the Studios and that the Fairies will only make appearances during Flower and Garden Festival at EPCOT.
I like the thought of a mild thrill ride in Fantasyland. It's out-of-the-norm so to speak. It's also nice to hear that rumors can come true, as they have speculated about this coaster for many years. Now if we could only get that Monsters Inc. coaster in Hollywood Studios... :D

I sure hope that rumor is true! They need something to put in that area in Studios, and the Narnia exhibit just didn't make sense considering how poor that franchise turned out. I still remember how much we laughed when it had an actual line on New Year's Eve!

i'm VERY excited for this expansion...and i like the new plans better than the previous. my girls will be 3 and 4 once this is all said and done - perfect ages to enjoy all of the new additions!
i think that the advent of this new Snow White attraction was necessary from disney, b/c i DO believe that this expansion is a direct response to the Wizarding World at US, and the old expansion plans really only introduced a single new attraction to the park - the Little Mermaid ride. all of the new princess meet and greets...the new restaurant...a revamped barnstormer, dumbo and pixie hollow...they all pretty much added up to a case of slapping a new coat of paint on an old house.
i know that a Snow White attraction already exists! but this version sounds plenty different enough from the current version that i'd consider it a brand new attraction that's being added to the mix...

I think this is a much better use of the land and money. The previous incarnation was way too girl-centric as has been noted many times previously. I think its interesting that Little Mermaid building is almost the exact same shape as the old 20,000 Leagues building.

My dad stumbled upon this the other night. I think the layout given in that first post looks pretty awesome. I was massively bummed when hearing about the Old New Fantasyland in that it would be geared more toward little girls (ages like 5-10 or something). I was more excited a few years ago when they were coming up with the idea for Villain Mountain. But that's neither here nor there. I also heard they are moving Barnstormer BACK 20 feet and if you think about it, that's a lot for a ride of any side. I'm curious to see how this all plays out. I have some pictures from my trip in December of the construction progress. I'll put them up sometime in the next few days

Sounds awesome. I think this mine train ride will be a little more mild then BTMRR but it should still be a big hit with everyone. RR at DHS may not be the tallest or fastest coaster, but the music and everything just puts it over the top. I would take that over many of other coasters any day of the week.
As far as SWSA, I will miss it, but it is progress...
This new ride seems like it will be good.... when all the construction is done I will have to make another trip to WDW.

This was such a smart move. I know that some people have been disappointed with the fact that this is not looking to be an "E" ticket," but the thing is, Fantasyland doesn't need an "E." While I don't disagree that MK needs a new "E" ticket, it should go in the plot behind Adventureland or Frontier Land in an expansion of one of those. Fantasyland with a E ticket would only be more congested, thus negating the entire purpose of this expansion. This ride will definitely be fun and fresh and provide something new, while still fitting nicely in the area. There was a post on the WDW website today (that was quickly removed) giving a little more info about this ride. It seems that the cars will react to the track in a way that has never been seen before - or at least that's what they're saying. I can't wait.

I'm not entirely sold that it's not going to be an E ticket attraction. At the D23 convention a few weeks ago, the lead imagineer on this project gave a detailed look at it, and in his words it's supposed to fit somewhere between Thunder Mtn and Space Mtn. It'll have two lift hills and won't be a "kiddy coaster" a la Goofy's Barnstormer. Plus the fact that it's supposed to be the first coaster in the world to feature the swaying car feature, and the theming is supposed to be very detailed with quite a few animatronic figures, I think it adds up to a pretty big deal. Anything that draws comparisons to any of MK's mountains is likely to end up as an E ticket quality attraction, at least in my book.

Yeah, if I hadn't been there to hear him talk about it, I'd be feeling the same way you were. I figured it would be a neat little ride, but I thought calling it a roller coaster was a bit of an exaggeration. But after that little presentation, he sold me on the idea that this isn't going to just be for kids, and I got a whole lot more excited about it too. He also talked about other facets of New Fantasyland, and how the whole idea is to make it appeal to a broader audience, including boys and adults, which I think is great if they can achieve that. I never thought I'd see the day that young boys and grown men would want to do a meet-and-greet with a Disney Princess, but according to him, that is exactly what they're going for with the whole meet-n-greet experience with Belle inside Maurice's Cottage. Color me amazed if they can pull that off!

there are actually quite a few areas for expansion around fantasyland, and there have been some rumors about possible expansions or at least disneyland execs are thinking about it. there's the princess fantasy faire area, the festival area (where the potc4 preview is now), the little "lake" area next to the matterhorn and iasw.

Yeah, from what I've heard this looks to be something like a 40 minute long show/m&g. I'll definitely be checking it out. I think this could be a major sleeper attraction. I mean, if you go to the Wizarding World of HP, Olivander's wand shop always has a 40 min. + line. If that's any indication of how people are receiving these new interactive show/m&gs, this could be huge.

As of Sept 4 it looks pretty damn good. I'll post some pictures up here of the new fantasyland one of these days

Please do. I was there in August and it looked like they had already had a decent start on everything. I can't wait for the Beast's castle.

Coming along really well. You can see some of the Princess castles. Also had alot of pics on what was going on in Fantasy Land. Saw a dinning with Belle and Beast.

We were just there in mid-September and the poor Snow White ride was so empty. We rode the "ride" but it clearly needs to be replaced ASAP. Hope it's something exciting. The whole area looked busy with construction. Hopefully it'll be done by our next trip (TBD). :)

It saddens me though that Snow White's Scary Adventure is going away.
I agree. While I think the changes are neat (and I am looking forward to the new rides) I will miss the original ride. I like the fact that Disney is constantly evolving but I also cry a little when a ride I love gets altered or removed altogether.

So what kinda coaster we talking bout here? like a rockin roller coaster? a barnstormer? or a mr toads wild ride?
As for the pixies, im kinda ok with them not being in new fantasyland, and it would make more sense to have them in epcot expecially cuz they are growing in popularity at the flower fest.

We're talking about something that hasn't been done before. It's exactly what it sounds like which is a mine coaster. You're car will actually rock back and fourth as you go through the mine I guess like a "mouse roller coaster" or something. That's what I've heard anyway but don't know if it's true or not

I'm not sure if that's been discussed yet as I haven't seen any reports. I do know that it won't open until the second phase that WILL NOT be opening next year. I think that's what I heard so we still have plenty of time before this opens

Yeah but besides this and the Great Goofini, there's nothing else for the "older crowd" besides the old stuff that's still there

i dunno, i think with the addition of the castles, the little mermaid ride and the new resturants fantasyland is gonna be alot mroe adult orientated, i mean im really lookin foreward to this change and i havnt made fantasyland my priority in years =D (since philarmagic)

Well the mermaid ride is the same exact one as in california and is just a regular ride kind of like nemo where it takes you through the story so there's nothing adult about that

Why not?

I believe the reason for the 2 Dumbo's is the long wait times and lines for only 1 Dumbo ride. I know that for me I have NEVER rode the Dumbo ride. Not because of a line but my first visit to Disney I was in first grade and as I got older that was not a priority for me to ride. Now I have kids of my own and they are 5 and 4 and that ride is a must see. One of my son's favorite movies is Dumbo so that attraction is a must do.

To speed up wait times, plus if im understanding correctly, they are upgrading them a little with better controls and stuff, makes the ride a bit more fun =D

Snow White is turning into a Princess meet and greet, I believe.

I thought the Meet and Greet was supposed to be inside or next to Beast Castle? oh well. It'll be new, which is good given the obvious signs of age in the MK

Anxiously awaiting the FL expansion, seems like this has been in progress for a decade now! It will surely add some fresh blood to MK.
