3-D Chaser Hunt

has anyone actually gotten a chaser out of the Urban 5 blind boxes yet or has anyone seen one be pulled?!? seems like a myth to me! so many people have wanted ads out in the classifieds on this site and yet i have not seen anyone trading them

When I went to buy my Urban 5 Combo pack I also grabbed 1 blind box. In my blind box was the Chaser and the one that came with the combo was Cuppa Tea. They are out there and do exist. Probably you are not seeing a lot for trade because the design seems to be well received. Usually anything "Mickey" does not seem to go up for trade as quick. The Paint Drip Mickey from Urban 4 was about as hard to find too.

:agree: I think it has a lot to do with this. The hype might last a little longer than paint drip too tho because of the price increase. Many people probably aren't blind boxing as often as they use to, especially with the urban series. So people may be less likely to come across extra chasers :shrug:

U R Exaclty right. The other thing is that with the price hike, we do not know the production numbers of these new sets. My thought is that they will produce less.
Therefor less Mickey's in circulation. The Secondary market is high for this one. I do not foresee that it will go down much. It would not surprise me if this chaser settles in around $75+ Maybe even reaching $100. Depending on production run.

Night before I left WDW I purchased two Urban 5s (from different trays) at DStreet . I remember the CM and Manager asking me if I'm going to open it, and there it was the 3D Chaser and Cuppa Tea. I agree with Drudawg that it's pure luck.

hopefully this urban 5 set hits the local malls soon, so i can try my luck at these. my max is 4 blind, then usually ebay...that's how it went with paint drip for me..but maybe 3 because they're $13 a pop now...sheesh.

For some reason, my luck is always better at D-Street or the parks! On my last trip, I got a chaser & its the only chaser I've ever blind-boxed! I've placed multiple orders through DS.com for Vinylmations & have never gotten a chaser or hard-to-find vinyl! Good luck, I hope you find 3D!!!

i realllly wanted the chaser for this set so i just did 1 blind box, didn't get it, and then went out and got one at a collectible store. with this set in particular i think its worth it to just go out and spring for the chaser :) glad to hear that this is projected to be such an expensive chaser now that i have one haha

Kind of a random observation ... but where are all the Urban 5 chasers?

I can't seem to pull one (:pout:) and usually turn to these boards to get my hands on those hard-to-find vinyls. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen a single Urban 5 chaser come up on the trade boards!

I think it is a cute design, but it isn't really that much better than some other equally rare vinyls. Is it? Where are they all - is everybody with extras taking them to eBay?

It just seems that that its popularity is a bit of an aberration...

We were down at WDW two weeks ago. At that time only D-street had Urban 5 for sale. By the time we left the next Friday we saw them in one shop at Epcot. I'm sure they're all over the place now, but that's at least a week after release where you really couldn't find them for sale except at D-street. We got lucky and pulled a chaser on our second box. Actually we only bought 12 boxes of Urban 5 total while we were at WDW and got only one duplicate (the teapot -- which we traded for the popcorn). I'm sure we'll never be that lucky again.

Steven Miller in one response to a commentor said after their evaluation they adjust pricing accordingly... ie: prices can only be raised on sets that are in demand. No price hike on Urban 5 demonstrated they are not purchased as much as the Park series. So if they are already not being purchased, and vinylmation enthusiast are limiting what they are buying, it would be logical to assume the Urban 5s (and the chaser) are not really in circulation right now and still sitting on the shelves.

I actually pulled a 3D this weekend when my cousin dropped off my burban 5 combo. This was my first chaser and I was super excited. It was pure luck but I'm hoping to pull kore chaser hopefully soon.

The one and only Urban 5 I purchased was a combo pack and it came with the chaser. Reminds me off the M&M Christmas commercial with Santa...."They do exist"

Everything you've said is true. The only Park 5 I've bought was a combo. And that's not because I don't like the Park 5. I LOVE them. I just refuse to pay more than $10 for a blindbox. Also, I much prefer the Park series over the Urbans. I've bought a few of them here and there, but all-in-all I typically only like one or two out of the twelve, so it's not feasible for me to buy one if I'm likely to get one of the ones I don't want.

That being said, I do really like the 3D. Popcorn is also quite cool. So I'm considering getting a combo pack to try my hand at least once on this series (not too fond of the combo Mickey, though).

I think everyone that has the 3-D chaser would rather keep it for themselves, since it's so cool-looking (me included).

I'm hunting for one too and offering up other chasers, multiple 3", 9" vinyls, Jumbo Pins, about anything I can think of in trade to complete my series... uggg. Trying to avoid eBay - the prices these little guys are going for are crazzzzzy! Trying to hold out hope and keeping my :cross: !

I bought 7 Urban 5's in attempt to get the chaser! I ended up with all the ones i wanted except the chaser. I was able to pull cup of tea, popcorn, knight, xray, lava lamp x2 and a gears. Doh!

I dropped my wife off at the salon for her hair,nail, eyebrow appointment.
Oh but wait, that's not the exciting part.... I had absolutely nothing to do for about 2 hours so I drove to the nearest mall. Now everyone is thinking, "big mistake" right? I mean, going to the mall on the weekend before Christmas? That's what I thought too when trying to find parking... but heck, I had time to kill so I was patient and finally found a parking spot. Maybe it was fate but as soon as I walked in, BAM! Disney store.
So I thought to myself.... eh, why not. Asked the first cast member if they had any vinylmation and she pointed me to the front counter. I waited in line and when it was my turn I asked for 2 boxes of Urban#5. The cast member let me choose them. I paid and walked out and sat on a bench and started to open the first box.

Box #1 - Popcorn Micky. Cool. I have a unopened tray so it's nice to get some to display and I didn't have this one yet.

Box #2 - ........wait for it.........wait for it...........

Needless to say I was very surprised. So surprised in fact I went back into the Disney store and shared it with the cast members.

Well, every time I go to the mall (which has been pretty often now :/) I purchase 2 boxes of Urban#5. If I get another chaser, I will be putting it up for trade here since I have 1 opened and 1 sealed in my tray of 24. That way someone on this forum could snag it and I'll get a vinyl that I have been keeping an eye on too.

It will be a win-win, win situation =)

Update: I DID IT!

Opened up Urban#5. The extra was the popcorn Mickey. So now I have a full set to myself, a set to trade INCLUDING the chaser since I got the chaser yesterday from a blind box. Once my profile here passes the requirements to post on the for sale/trade section I will be posting it up for trade.

It actually does feel good to open them all up.

exactly my thoughts...i really am not a fan the other urban 5 designs (or any of the urbans in general) and blindboxed 5 different ones. but guess what...no chaser :doh:

i finally broke down and bought one on the sale/trade thread. i figured it was better to spend the money on the one i want, rather than to keep blindboxing and getting ones i have no interest in, and spend tons more money in the long run (and still probably not get the chaser).

This Christmas my mother in law got us two blind boxes from urban 5. The first was one of the gears (aww, not a fan) and the second was THE CHASER!!! I made quite an impression on my new family squealing and jumping up and down. "The Chaser!!! The Chaser!!!" i love this one. i ended up buying it on ebay. i paid 50.00. i felt silly for paying that much for 3 in, but i just can't count on blind boxing it (although i have out of about 24 blind boxes pulled 3 tom morrows which ended up being good because i was able to trade the 2 extras and iasw chaser). i just don't want to buy a ton of the urban blind boxes. i'm trying to convince myself that i actually saved money...;) congrats to everyone that has blind boxed this one!!

I already posted this story in the mail day thread a few days ago, but I am so excited about my first chaser pull that I'll share it again here. :)

So I was at International Plaza in Tampa and wanted to go check out the Toy Story merchandise (and see what was on sale!) at The Disney Store. I found a couple of sale Toy Story reusable shopping bags that I wanted but not much else, so I decided to go check out the Vinylmation display. They had NBC, HAL, and a case of Urban 5 (there might have been other stuff but I can't remember). I decided that since I only had two Urban 5s, I'd take a chance on blind boxing because, chances are, I'd get a vinyl I didn't already have. So, I picked one out and went and paid. I couldn't wait to see what I got so I went to where my dad was waiting for me (still in the store) and opened my blind box. As soon as I got the top of the foil open, I saw the ears. I started jumping up and down and shouting "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!! IT'S 3-D MICKEY!!!!!!!" I must have caused a scene. My dad didn't understand why I was so excited until I took him out of the box, put the glasses on, and explained to him what the chaser was. THEN he got my excitement! I even took him over to the U5 display and said "see? They don't even have this guy in this box for display!!" I was so excited I even called my husband to tell him. He didn't know what 3-D Mickey looked like until I got home with him, but when I showed him what he looked like, he definitely agreed that he is the coolest vinyl in my collection!!

And, like I stated above, this is the first chaser I have ever blind boxed. So, YAY!

I went to Dstreet in Anaheim yesterday and my boyfriend bought 3 Urban 5 combo packs but I picked them out. When we got home I didn't know which of the combo packs was the one I had picked out for myself so I tried to find which one was the heaviest by balancing them in my hand and I thought one of them was a little bit heavier. It could just have been my imagination but I picked the one that was "heavier" for me. I was hoping that it was the 3D glasses making it seem heavier but like I said I think it was just all in my head. But I opened it and out comes out 3D chaser!!!! I was sooooo happy. As ridiculous as it sounds, I've never ever pulled a chaser. I've bought dozens and dozens of blind-boxes from various sets and trays, and never once have I ever gotten a chaser without buying it from a fellow board member. :lol:

I went to Disney the week before Christmas, I bought my first VM and got hooked...My daugter had to have one, then her friend who went with us, then their parents and my wife, and on and on. To keep the fighting down we made a rule for the girls that they can not trade among one another. Anyway, my daughters friend pulled the 3-D chaser and I liked it but had no clue even what a chaser was. I tried to trade with her but she told me rules were rules...so she would not. I took my daughter on a ride and when I got back with the group she had traded it. I went to the store to trade for it myself...of course it was gone, so someone picked it up in the clear case near the space mountain ride.

Oh well at least my daighter and I had a great time on the ride, and I would not have trade ride time with her for that chaser...but I would love to have it anyway. OH WELL!!!

It was the same for me till' yesterday. I thought I was the most unluckiest collector and I would never get one after buying so many. But it will happen to you trust me. You just don't know when or with what series it will happen. But that's part of the fun.

Ok... My crazy story about this chaser so I have to share.

My wife and I bought about 40 blind boxes of this set and had 2 sets of 11 and multiple extras for it, but no chaser.

We had resigned to buy one on eBay, then went to lunch with the friend who had gotten us in into vinyls a while back (they only own about 15, we had over 100 at that point)

She had randomly gone to a Disney Store that morning to return something and decided to buy a random blind box for us and one for her boyfriend. Stupid luck, the one she gave us was the only one we needed. THANK YOU ROSIE!!!

1) We do not promote tricks, cheats, gimmicks, (insert synonym here), of picking up chasers with prior knowledge on VN. I'm sure a Staff would let you know of this, soon enough.

2) No, recently they have started shuffling the boxes with some sort of algorithm, so it's not the same placement anymore. And at stores, CM's supposedly have to shuffle when opening a new box anyways.

Sometimes that's the eaier and cheaper way to do it. Pay the equivalent of 3-6 blind boxes and get what you want. Not the same thrill of opening it, but you get to enjoy looking at it once you get it.

This is the one chaser I kept blind boxing. Every time I saw a tray of a 5-10 Urban 5s I would buy a couple hoping for the Knight, Cuppa Tea, and the Lava lamp. I almost always got a 3-D chaser, blue gear, and either Rock Star, Squid, Red Gear, Popcorn, or Hippie, took me forever to finally blind box the Lava Lamp.

Finding the chaser is the best part though...I have yet to blind box a chaser. The only ones I have are what I have received in full trays, but I keep my hopes up that someday, the chaser nestles into a blind box and finds its way into my shopping bag. :)

I remember getting mine, I only wanted one the 3D Mickey. I worked at the mall few stores down from the Disney Store so every week I would go and spend about $100 in hopes I would get 3D Mickey... NOTHING week after week. For the price I paid I could have gotten TWO FULL Cases. So then I just gave up, I felt that this chaser was not for me. Weeks later I went to another mall a new disney store. Looking at the Full case my partner just picked one up and he bought it, Then he just gave it to me. I opened it and I almost fell on the floor. I jumped and screamed The Disney Cast member looked at me as if I just won a million dollars. lol My story :)

As I have posted in another thread, I am just disappointed with the overall set of the Urban 5, and after seeing the 3D mickey, now up high on my list of must have vinyls, I just don't see how I'm going to deal with all the duplicates from this series that I am going to have. I actually just traded for one for my sister on the disboards of all places. My mom brought it up to me the other night and I had an extra Dr. Porkchop so I traded with that member. I was shocked that it was available but have been looking for it for a long time

I bought like 13 blindboxes and still have not actually pulled one myself. I finally broke down and just bought one from a wonderful member on here. I tell you one thing...I was not planning on collecting U5 set I just wanted the chaser...but after 13 blind boxes I already had 10 out of 12 so i wound up getting the last 2 to complete the set...Darn you Disney for getting me hooked LOL.

Yeah, I think that's kinda what I'm getting to doing with almost all of these Urban collections. You try to get one or two that you like, and before you know it, you have all the gears and fillers that you would have never wanted, and just missing the one you're still chasing, whether or not it's an awesome 3-D Mickey.

My wife and I just got home from 2 DS in our area and we wound up pulling 1 Chaser out of each store. The first stores tray was pretty bare and the other was Fresh. Seem that we have good luck with the chasers. That is the 3rd different series chaser we have dupes of now.

When we were in Disney a few months back, my son blind boxed 3 of them over the course of 2 days. :) By the third he was really disappointed he was wanted others in the series. We were able to trade one of them in D Street to a couple of kids who had been trying for a while to get one.

I headed off to my local store in Bayshore, NY, intent on finding a 3-D Mickey, thanks to the sale. I got in there, picked up 5 boxes of U5 and 1 Jack from TNBC, paid for Jack and 2 U5 with the sale. Got back to my car and tore through them. Nothing.

So I went back in.

I bought 4 more boxes, paying for 2, getting 2 free. This time I decided to stay in the store. Tore through them, no chaser. Now the cashier was rooting for me as I bought another 2 boxes. I kept buying them in twos. Eventually there were just 8 boxes left in the tray and I had no chaser yet. (There had been 1 box missing from the tray when I got there) So at this point, I've already purchased 15 boxes of U5, paying for just 7 of them. I was nearing the absolute limit of what I could spend. I said ok, this is it. Last 2 and I have to stop. At this point another cashier had come out to see as well. As I'm paying for those last 2, the new cashier asks me if the chasers are all the same or different for each set, and I let her know they are different. She then tells me that a kid had come in earlier and got a Mickey with sunglasses. I almost had a heart attack. I knew she must have been referring to 3-D Mickey. I'm cursing my bad luck figuring it was probably that 1 box missing from the case. Oh well, too late. The purchase has been made.

I open the first of my last 2 boxes, and there he is. 3-D Mickey. A wave of joy washed over me, the cashier is giving me high fives, the other cashier realizes that now she must try and find it herself because she loves it too now, lol. And the one who had mentioned the kid getting Mickey with sunglasses? She tells me now that it was a different one that actually had sun glasses instead of 3-D glasses. Oh yeah!

So on the down side, I spent more money than I wanted to, and I only left like 6 boxes of U5 for others at that store, but on the upside, I got my most wanted vinyl and a BUNCH of U5s to trade and customize. After all the ones I bought, I'm still a blue gear short of a set, which is fine anyway because I don't love most of the pieces in the set and would rather use them for customizing and trading!

Just looking at the pictures of 3d Mickey, I was not overly impressed or anxious to find one.

However, reading all the threads on the forum, I realized he is one of the most sought after and favorite vinyls so thought I should try and find him one day. I wasn't prepared to pay eBay prices for him so just sat back and waited. A fellow member was nice enough to pick me up a 1/2 price tray with the current disneystore sale so now my 3d and 23 other vinyls are winging their way to New Zealand - lots of traders for the next visit to WDW!

If you look on the side of your box, there are 11 designs and one black mickey with a ? on it. That's a special mystery design, so if you pull one that's not pictured, you have a chaser! There's 24 boxes in a case, and only 1 chaser while there's 2 or 3 of the other designs, making it extra special.
